What to bring from narva. The best shops and malls in Narva. What you can buy in Narva

Narva is one of the most beloved tourists by Estonian cities, as it is just great to engage in the procurement of a variety of things. In this city there are a lot of shops of various sizes: here they are found as tiny

stalls and colossal hypermarkets. Moreover, every tourist can easily buy good goods, and get back a fifth of their price in a completely legal way. Local outlets are most popular with Russians, and more specifically with those who live near the Russian-Estonian border.

This city is a place where you can buy good items of clothing at an affordable price. Well, Narva differs from other cities by something else important: shops, including those in which you can buy food, are pretty early here

close at night. At 10 and 11 o’clock in the evening only the largest of the supermarkets remain open. Here, alcohol is sold for a rather limited time - only 10: 00-21: 00.

Those who come to Narva in order to purchase goods here make purchases, mainly of these types:

  • expensive alcoholic and low alcohol products
  • high quality local knitwear, mostly made by Marat
  • branded trendy items of clothing and shoes. Including for children. Mainly for the winter, and mainly those made by Lenne
  • sweet. Moreover, the local marzipans and widely known Kalev sweets are the most popular among sweets among the guests of Narva
  • various household appliances. Although all the same at almost the same price you can buy in Russia
  • sausage and meat, including processed, from Rakvere. In local markets, you can try to bring down the price of bargaining. But you should not bargain in large stores - they already give discounts and return VAT

Discounts and sales

The most important discount that residents of Russia can use here as citizens of a country that is not part of the European Union is the return of VAT. If anyone does not know, VAT means "20% of the purchase price minus the administrative fee." Buyers who want to take advantage of this same discount should:

  • at the point of sale: before paying for goods at one point of sale during the current day for an amount of 38.01 EUR or more, ask the seller for a Tax Free Form;
  • at customs: not a single item can even be taken out of the package before, let alone use it. The buyer must show the customs officer his passport, purchased goods, checks. Then ask to stamp the Refund Cheque.
  • at the VAT return office: in this building, those who wish to receive this discount are required to show their passport, Refund Check, a bank / credit card, while at the same time requesting an immediate VAT refund for it. If there is no card or request, Tax Free will be returned in cash.

Moreover, buyers should know one more important thing: you need to contact customs for stamping Tax Free Form so that its employees do this no later than three months after purchasing the goods.

The largest sales, where for any purchase you can get a discount of 75-80% of its usual price, in this city are held a couple of times a year: in mid-summer and mid-winter.

Supermarket Maxima

Maxima is a highly visited food chain specializing in food, company clothes and shoes.

Some stores of this network open at 7, others at 8 in the morning. With the closure, the same thing: some work until 10 pm, others close an hour later. The shops of Maxima's retail network in Narva differ in size: Maxima X (small shops in residential areas), Maxima XX (larger stores, supermarkets), Maxima XXX (hypermarkets). Unfortunately, there are no Maxima XXX supermarkets in Narva.

But Maxima X and Maxima XX in Narva can be found at the following addresses:

  • Pähklimäe 6a, Narva
  • Mon-Sun: 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Additionally, you can visit specialized points of sale at the following addresses:

  • RD Electronic AS: st. Linda 2, Narva.

  • Argo Electronocs AS: ul. Malmi 8, Narva.

Clothing stores

Good clothes, but also shoes, are sold in the already mentioned Narva shopping centers: Astri, Fama, Prisma.

But special attention deserves the Tempo shopping center, which specializes in the well-known Estonian Krenholm textiles. By the way, the products of the Krenholm manufactory can be brought as a souvenir from Narva and Estonia.

Guests of Narva are most likely to buy items made by the hands of folk craftsmen, local sweet products, dishes made from porcelain mugs, antique goods, Narva liquors, balms. And in the city center these souvenir outlets are located:

  • Kokos: Here they sell Estonian sweet treats. Brand-name chocolate products made in other Baltic countries are immediately sold. They also sell local varieties of expensive alcoholic beverages. It is easy to reach Kokos on foot from Petrovskaya Square, spending literally two minutes on the road, no more. It is located here: Pushkin street, 5, Narva.
  • Unistus: Marzipans, which the country is famous for, are sold at this outlet. They also sell alcohol and souvenir mugs. This store is located near Astri, and more specifically here: Tallinn Highway 27, Narva.
  • Alexander Salon: at this point, sales of antiques sell numismatics, goods and objects that have come out of the hands of folk craftsmen, and there are many more that may interest souvenir lovers. Aleksandr Salon is located on st. Pushkin, 13, Narva.
  • Summer Fair: special authentic items can be found at the annual summer fair in Narva. Participants from Latvia, Lithuania and Russia come here for the duration of the event. In addition to handmade souvenirs, all the guests of the Narva Summer Fair will have plenty of entertainment and a concert program. The exhibition in 2017 falls on August 12. The event will run from 11:00 to 16:00 at Raja 5.

The coordinates of all these stores are well known to those who live near the Russian-Estonian border. We hope that, thanks to this information, other Russian tourists living much further from Estonia got an idea about them, and now it will be easier for them to find those shops in Narva that they need.

I discovered Narva a few years ago as an alternative to traveling to Finland. First there were trips to Tallinn, and then I looked at the offers with one-day tours to Narva. They promised shopping, attractions and almost the second Lappeenranta, only closer, faster and cheaper. Closer - yes, cheaper - yes, but the tour's economy is completely different. People go to Lappeenranta to roll back visas, visit wholesale markets and buy fish-caviar-fairies. When I actively visited Narva (2014-2015), there were no wholesale markets and fish with caviar. Perhaps in time they will follow the Finnish scenario. I warn you right away: Narva is more interesting in terms of shopping, not sights.

What is the best way to get to Narva from St. Petersburg: minibus, bus, private car

Firms offering one-day tours to Narva, to a fig and more. Search the Internet, study offers and choose. Everyone has different trip days and passenger collection points. As a rule, minibuses drive to Narva. More precisely, this: they do not actually go to Narva itself, but to Ivangorod (a city on the border with Estonia, on the other side of the river from Narva). You can also get to Ivangorod by bus from the Bus Station on the Obvodny Canal. There is one caveat: this is the price of the trip. Minibuses are taken back and forth, the price for the tour is floating. Some companies practice last minute prices if there is less than a day before the trip and there are several unsold tickets. The price is reduced and you can roll back and forth for 450-500 rubles. Travel time by minibuses is less: 2-2.5 hours. Regular buses have a fixed price of 380 rubles one way and travel time is almost 3.5 hours. In addition, minibuses approach the checkpoint across the border with Estonia, and from the regular bus you still have to shkandybat. Minibuses to Narva are faster and cheaper. Narva / Ivangorod can also be reached by car. I didn’t go there by car. If you have a green card, go through customs at the car. There is no green card - leave the car in Ivangorod and a pawn across the bridge to Narva. The quality of the roadbed in the Leningrad region towards the border is so-so. An example of a minibus to Narva (I no longer remember the carrier company):

My option: to take a backpack / big bag, you can even grandma's shopping trolley. Everyone does it and then put everything on the back platform of the minibus. And yes, minibuses go 99-100% full. In some, there is Wi-fi internet (up to a point). Usually, they give 6 hours for purchases in Narva: they arrive at the border by 10 am, the return check-out is at 16-17 pm. This time is enough either for hard shopping non-stop, or for a milder version of shopping with a visit to one or two attractions. Ah, here's another thing: they usually advertise on tours, they say, you can visit the Narva and Ivangorod fortresses. Forget about Ivangorodskaya (from the Russian side) - there simply will not be time for it. I'm serious.

Customs in Narva on the border with Estonia - how long to go, features of passage

To travel to Narva, you must have a valid passport with a valid Schengen visa. Documents are checked first in Russia, then in Estonia. Checkpoints are located on opposite sides of the Narva River. The checkpoint is of a pedestrian type, that is, you are landed near Russian customs, they show you where the minibus will be, they say the last time when you need to appear at Estonian customs and the time the minibus leaves for St. Petersburg. The main thing is not to forget about the time difference, if any. Now in the summer of 2017 there is no time difference.

Each checkpoint has toilets. Estonian customs officers speak Russian. In general, Narva is the most Russian Estonian city and there are no problems with the language at all. Everyone speaks Russian, and all names are in Estonian. Questions, as a rule, are not asked. They put a stamp and see you in a few hours.

Some people cross the border on foot, some by car across the bridge - a neutral zone. It is very windy and cold in winter, spring and autumn. The brain freezes specifically.

Good for animals - they do not need any documents and visas. They go back and forth. In the photo above, I recorded a moment when local mongrels fled from Estonia to Russia. Nobody stopped them.

What to get around in Narva

After crossing the border, the first question is: on what to get around Narva? At a briefing in a minibus, it is advised to use a local taxi for trips between shopping centers. Yes, the shopping centers are relatively far from each other, but I always walked and managed to do everything. I have not seen public transport. Narva, although the third largest city in Estonia, is still very small and everything is nearby, when compared with St. Petersburg.

Attractions in Narva

The first place to visit in Narva immediately after crossing the border is the tourist information center (Narva Guest Services Center), which is located on the square right after leaving the Estonian customs on the left side. There you can get free maps of the city of Narva, get free advice from the center’s specialists - where to see what, where to go + there you can find many booklets with information about other tourist places in Estonia, spa resorts, etc. And here you can also buy souvenir products. The consultants speak Russian, the booklets are also in Russian. In general, I recommend! Very nice service.

The main attraction of Narva is the Narva Fortress / Narva Castle. It's nice to just take a walk on a fine day (only very windy), you can visit the castle itself, but in the castle itself I did not remember anything, to be honest.

Here is a monument to the villain who destroyed Russia.

And his hut.

Near the castle in the surrounding area there is a fountain and an iron tree for the newlyweds.

The second main attraction is the Lutheran Alexander Church.

Nothing interesting inside. This is an active cathedral.

You can go up to the observation deck up a spiral staircase or by elevator. Entrance to the church is free, you only need to pay for going up.

From the narrow windows of the tower overlooks Narva and Ivangorod.

I also visited the Art Gallery - it is located on the other side of the Narva Castle and the Alexander Church, there you have to stomp on foot. On weekdays, there are few people in the above places - I like it. In order not to spend a lot of money on entry, you can buy a comprehensive ticket at once for everything (except the church). A complex ticket costs 7 euros for adults, for students 3.5 euros.

The architecture of Narva will not amaze you with its diversity. During the war and in the Soviet years, many historic buildings were irretrievably lost. What remains is what remains, everything else is gray scary panels. Photographed what is more beautiful

Shopping centers in Narva and what to buy. Casino

The main thing worth going to Narva is shopping! Before the jump in the euro, it was very profitable, now not very. Only if you want quality goods. The biggest inconvenience for Russian tourists in the shops of Narva is the price tags exclusively in Estonian. Well, that is, you will see that this is cheese, and this is sausage. But there is 50 kinds of cheese there and if you don’t cook in Estonian, it will be almost impossible to understand what the difference is between them - you need to ask sales consultants.

The largest shopping center of Narva is Astri. He opened recently. This is the most diverse in terms of the assortment of shopping centers + it has a cinema. I advise you to pay attention to the Ideaal cosmetics store. There are big discounts on perfumes and you can grab the originals at an attractive price.

Shopping center Fama. There is a Rimi grocery supermarket, pharmacy, clothing stores, etc. In Rimi you can buy cheeses, sausages - these are real, not nashenskie surrogates.

Shopping center Tempo. There is nothing special about it, a small shopping center of local importance. Do not waste your time.

The supermarket Maxima XX is a competitor to Rimi. You can visit in search of great offers and discounts.

Shopping center Narva Centrum. Located next to Astri. About nothing, you can not go there. Very similar to our stalls.

Hypermarket Prisma. And here you must go! Huge selection of goods, low prices, large area, few buyers. It is located far from other shopping centers, so grocery shopping is better to start from here, but this is my personal opinion.

Narva is more suitable for the purchase of quality food. For clothes there is a small assortment of brands. Perhaps, if you catch the discounts, then you can overdo it too. 5-6 hours is enough to visit several supermarkets and relax, taking a little walk around the territory of Narva Castle or along the river promenade. Not a single free minute will be! When buying products, you must keep in mind the list of products and goods that are prohibited from being transported across the border. As a rule, these are cigarettes and alcohol in large quantities, raw meat and fish. Every year something changes, look for a list of prohibitions and restrictions on the Internet. In addition, the minibus driver will tell you about the restrictions on the way from St. Petersburg to Narva.

3. inexpensive round-trip, if you look carefully;

4. everyone speaks Russian, it turns out Russian abroad;

5. the city is constantly and actively improving as part of special EU programs;

6. everything is close, within walking distance;

7. Fast and trouble-free border crossing.

I had no negative moments in Narva, although it is rumored that the Russian population of Narva loves to plump and behaves aggressively. I recommend and put five stars! Also read my chic review of Istanbul

Sincerely yours, Andy Goldred

Narva is a popular city in Estonia, which is a real find for shopping lovers. The Estonian city provides customers with a large number of stores - from huge modern shopping centers to small branded shops where you can buy inexpensive high-quality items and return 20% of their cost in an absolutely legal way. Narva stores are of particular interest to Russians living in neighboring areas bordering Estonia.

Features of shopping in Narva

In Narva, buyers can profitably purchase inexpensive and high-quality clothing, and it is also worth noting that the shops, in particular grocery stores, close quite early. Until 22:00 and 23:00 only the largest shopping centers operate. In Narva shops there are also restrictions on the sale of alcohol - you can buy alcohol only from 10:00 in the morning until 21:00 in the evening.

In the markets of Narva, bargaining is appropriate, which should not be done in large shopping centers, which already provide for a VAT refund, and big discounts.

Discounts and sales

The main discount that is granted to Russians as residents of a country outside the European Union is a VAT refund (20% of the value of the product minus the administrative fee). In order to get this discount, buyers need:

  • In the store: before paying for goods in one store or boutique within one day for a total amount of at least 38.01 euros, ask the seller for a tax free form.
  • At customs: all goods must be unused and packaged. The buyer must present the customs officer with a passport, purchases and checks, and ask him to put a stamp on the Refund Check.
  • at the Refund office: at the Refund office, customers must present their passport, Refund Check and credit card, requesting an immediate VAT refund on their credit card (Immediate Refund), otherwise the tax free amount will be refunded in cash.

Buyers need to keep in mind that the Tax free form must be stamped by customs officers no later than three months from the month of purchase of the goods.

Traveling to Estonia for our compatriots is always an opportunity not only to see the sights, but also to do shopping. Estonia, of course, is far from France and not even Germany, but for those who like to shop there is everything from fashion boutiques and famous shopping centers to tiny shops and regular sales.

So, what to bring home from Estonia, and where is the best place to shop?

Where is it profitable to shop in Estonia - and, in particular, in Tallinn?

Most Estonian stores are concentrated in Tartu, Narva and Tallinn.
