Rostelecom is one of the leading companies involved in the installation of high-speed Internet and IP-TV. Today, a popular option is also to provide a wireless network in the client's premises, which is done by installing a wi-fi router to the user's computer and then distributing the Internet connection to other devices through it (mobile phones, tablets, other computers, laptops, TVs). In this article, we will analyze the main issues that arise when connecting and configuring d link 615/620 wi-fi routers for Rostelecom.

Wireless Internet

To organize a wireless network, Rostelecom uses two models of wi-fi routers from d link: dir 620 and dir 615. Both models are almost identical, differing only in minor technical aspects, and their configuration has the same sequence of actions.

Both dir 620 and dir 615 are suitable for creating a wireless network and . A Wi-fi router and a cable to connect it to a computer are all you need to distribute the Internet to other devices. Thus, one of the two presented models is suitable for creating a wi-fi connection from Rostelecom.

Router connection

The greatest difficulty is the question of directly setting up wifi routers d link dir 620 and 615 for Rostelecom, but before proceeding to solve this problem, you must correctly connect the device to your computer.

This is done quite simply: on the back of the device, find the internet connector, which is highlighted with a white frame. Connect your internet cable to it. If you previously used the Internet directly through a PC, then this cable must first be disconnected from the network card.

Then take the cable that came with the router. It is much smaller in size. Connect one of its plugs to the router in any of the numbered connectors, bordered by a blue frame, and connect the other to the network card of your computer. Connect the power cable, respectively, to the surge protector. After you have completed the installation, you can proceed to setting up the router.

Router setup

The setup will take you a little more time, but it is quite simple.

Important: if you used the Rostelecom Internet via a PC, then disconnect from the Network before setting up. In the future, the router will automatically connect.

First, make sure that automatic obtaining of IP and DNS addresses is enabled in the local network settings. To do this, hold down the Win and R buttons, and in the pop-up window, write ncpa.cpl and click "OK". You will be presented with a list of available connections, select the one through which the router was connected and go to its properties. In the properties, go to the TCP / IP v4 section and check the boxes in the right places.

After completing this step, we proceed to the direct configuration of the dir 615/620 router for Rostelecom. To do this, you need to open your Internet browser and enter the address 192.168.0.1 there. The page that appears will require you to provide a username and password. By default they are set to admin and admin.

If the data is entered correctly, you will be taken to the main page, where the dir-615 / dir-620 router for Rostelecom is configured. At the same time, depending on the software embedded in the router, it may look different.

In the case of an older version of the software, you should first click on the “Manually configure” button. In the case of a more recent one - “Advanced settings”. In the menu that appears, select "Network" - "Wan". A list will open, at the end of which find the “Delete” button and click on it. Then go back and click on the "Add" button.

Fill in all fields according to the data below:

  • connection type - PPPoE;
  • name - do not change this item, or write “Rostelekom”;
  • login - this is your login, which is provided for connecting to the Internet;
  • password - the password that is provided to connect to the Internet.

After you have filled in all the fields, click on the “Save” button and reload the page. If everything is done correctly, the connection status after refreshing the page should change to “Connected”. Thus, all models of d link routers are configured, including dir-615 and dir-620.

Organization of connection security

By default, yours will be open to other users. In some cases, this is acceptable, but most often certain security measures are taken to restrict access. To do this, after completing the configuration of the d link-615/620 router for Rostelecom, you should set a password for your connection in order to protect it from unwanted connections. To do this, type 192.168.0.1 into your browser again.

On the main page, select “Setup Wizard…”. On the page that opens, you should fill in all the fields as follows:

  • SSID - the name of your connection, required so that you can easily distinguish it from other channels;
  • encryption type - select WPA/PSK;
  • PSK encryption key - a password that will need to be entered when connecting new devices to your wi-fi channel.

Following the advice from this article, you can easily set up a d-link dir-615 or d-link dir-620 WI-FI router for Rostelecom. After completing all the steps in the specified sequence, you will receive a ready-made wireless network with which all your personal computers, mobile devices and other equipment can work.

In order to get into the web interface of the router, you need to open your Internet browser and type 192. 168.0.1 in the address bar, Username - admin, Passwordadmin(provided that the router has factory settings and its IP has not changed).

The D-Link DIR 615 router is one of the company's most popular models due to its reliability, speed and ease of use. Many Internet service providers recommend using it or offer it for sale themselves.

Connecting and configuring it yourself, like any other router from D-Link, is very easy. Next, it will be told how to connect and enter the settings of the D LINK DIR 615 router, configure for a specific provider and connect.

An important point: the menus and items of the web interface in the article are indicated for the latest firmware versions, it is recommended to update it to the most recent one.

Connection

The first time, even if you are going to use only Wi-Fi, you need to connect using an Ethernet cable:

Authorization

After connecting, you need to configure your router. For these purposes, a simple and understandable graphical web interface is used.

To open it, you need:

If the router has a different address or the username or password has been changed, but you do not know them, reset the settings by pressing the reset button on the rear panel of the device for 10-15 seconds. More about reset at the end of the article.

Firmware

A device bought in a store usually has an outdated firmware version. The manufacturer releases new revisions containing bug fixes and various improvements. It is recommended to install the latest version available.

There are also special firmware customized for a specific provider, for example, TTK has one for DIR-615. It can be changed to default.

Internet setup

In order to configure the Internet, select "Network -> WAN".

Our eyes will open a list of existing connections. Most likely it will be empty, but if there is already something there, it is better to delete them. After clicking on the "Add" button, we can set up a new connection.

The most important step is the choice of connection type. There are several Internet connection modes available, which will be discussed in more detail below. You can find out your type by calling the support of your provider.

PPPoE

The most common of them, it is used by most Internet providers, such as Dom ru.

You will need a password and login, which can be obtained from support. The MTU parameter must be set to 1492. By clicking on the "Change" button, save the changes.

L2TP

This type of connection is used to work with VPN and is provided, for example, by the Beeline provider. The protocol is relatively new, older routers mostly do not support it, but DIR 615 is not one of them and is recommended for use with this protocol.

To connect to the Internet you will need:

Static IP

For most providers, getting a static IP is an additional service, since not everyone needs it. For some purposes, this option is necessary, you will have to pay extra to the provider for it.

If you have it connected, then you will need:

For Rostelecom, the gateway address is the first three numbers of your IP address unchanged and instead of the last one (for example, if your IP is 213.98.76.45, then the gateway address will be 213.98.76.1), and DNS addresses 212.94.96.114.

Dynamic IP

A dynamic IP differs from a static one only in that it is issued via DHCP each time you log in to the network.

Its biggest plus is that you do not need to enter any additional data. It is enough to select this protocol and use it after the network is automatically installed.

Occasionally, you may need to change the MAC address to the one registered with your ISP. Just enter the required address in a special field and click "Change".

WiFi setup

After you have connected the router to the Internet, you can begin to configure the wireless network. Its configuration should not be taken lightly, since Wi-Fi with a weak password or no password at all can not only cause a decrease in available speed and traffic growth, but also a security risk.

The local network

The LAN is configured automatically by the device and in most cases there is no need to change the existing settings. You can go to the settings by clicking on "Network -> LAN". In most cases, you don't need to change them.

You can also change the address of the router and the range of addresses issued by DHCP here. For correct operation, automatic IP acquisition must be enabled on all computers in the local area.

Changing the administrator password

For security reasons, it is important to change the default administrator login and password. Leaving it at the default, you run the risk of transferring control to a random person. This may seem like overkill for home internet, but it may save you a lot of nerves.

You can change it by going to "System -> Administrator Password". Don't make it too simple and be sure to write it down somewhere: reconfiguring your router is rarely needed, and during this time you can just forget it. Make sure that outsiders cannot access it.

Reset

If you have incorrect settings, or if you have forgotten the administrator password or login, you can reset the device to factory settings.

It can be done:

The capabilities of the D-link DIR 615 are extensive and allow you to use it for a wide range of tasks, but setting up home Internet on your own is not at all difficult even if you have very little experience, thanks to an intuitive, well-thought-out interface.
