PVC production technology for boats. For the production of inflatable boats. Materials for the manufacture of PVC inflatable boats

Every day PVC boats are becoming more and more popular among fishermen in our country. Every fisherman at least once thought about having his own floating means: a boat or a boat. It is not necessary to explain to anyone how significantly the PVC boat expands the possibilities of the angler in fishing. Owning your own boat or motorboat is not cheap, but there is an alternative: a PVC inflatable boat.

An inflatable boat, unlike a conventional boat, has a large number of advantages:

  • The inflatable boat takes up significantly less storage space, it can be stored in a garage, utility room, even in an apartment.
  • It is much more convenient to transport an inflatable boat to the place of fishing, there is no need to purchase a car trailer, install a towbar.
  • To launch an inflatable boat, there is no need to look for a special place, the inflatable boat weighs much less, so even one person can easily launch it into the water.
  • The price of an inflatable boat is several times cheaper, so a large number of people can afford to buy it.

The first inflatable boats were made of rubber, they were not very reliable in operation, but they were inexpensive, anyone could afford to buy such a boat for fishing, hunting or tourism. The base of a rubber boat is a synthetic mesh or cotton fabric covered with rubber on both sides for gas tightness. Over time, factories, manufacturers of rubber boats, improved their manufacturing technology, began to use rubber with a high content of natural rubber, due to which the boats became much better and more reliable.

In the 90s, the first inflatable boats appeared from a new, more modern material, polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC fabric was a nylon mesh covered on both sides with a layer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is an elastic and airtight material. PVC boats in terms of their performance significantly exceeded rubber boats, but at first they cost much more than rubber boats. A little later, an increasing number of manufacturers began to appear on the market, and prices for PVC boats dropped significantly. Today, PVC inflatable boats have become the most popular boat type of all.

Advantages of PVC boats

  • Easy to store PVC boats. Before storage, a rubber boat must be thoroughly washed, properly dried, sprinkled with talcum powder and stored, if possible, unfolded, in a partially inflated state so that the boat does not rot and mold. There are no such problems with the PVC boat, I turned it up and put it in storage until spring: in the garage, on the loggia, in the basement. The storage temperature of the PVC boat is from -40 to +50 degrees. It is advisable to store a rubber boat at temperatures from -5 to +35 degrees.
  • PVC boats are more resistant to tearing and abrasion. PVC fabric in its structure is denser and coarser, therefore it withstands mechanical stress better. The rubberized fabric of a rubber boat does not resist longitudinal cuts well, therefore, the rubber boat must be protected from sharp branches, snags, sharp stones and glass fragments.
  • PVC boat seams are much stronger and more aesthetically pleasing than rubber boat seams. The seams are the weakest point of a rubber boat; to strengthen them, the seams are pasted over with special tapes, so they look much less aesthetically pleasing. And despite the reinforcement of the seams with tapes, the strength of the seams of a rubber boat is still worse than that of a PVC boat. The tensile strength of the PVC boat seams is 3.5-4.5 kg, and the seams of a rubber boat are 0.5 kg.
  • The cylinders of PVC boats hold a higher pressure, their working pressure is 0.3, for rubber boats, the working pressure is 0.15. The pressure in the cylinders of a rubber boat must be carefully controlled, otherwise, in the heat, the pumped cylinders can burst, this can especially happen with an old boat that has served its owner for many years. This doesn't happen with a PVC boat.
  • PVC boats are lighter than rubber inflatable boats. This moment becomes especially sensitive when the inflatable boat is large.
  • The fabric from which PVC boats are made is much more practical than rubberized fabric. It does not rot, is not exposed to fungi and bacteria, does not absorb moisture, is not afraid of frost, ultraviolet radiation.
  • PVC boats are well suited for use with a motor, since the PVC fabric is not afraid of contact with petroleum products: gasoline, engine oil.
  • PVC fabric manufacturers produce more than 20 colors and shades of their fabrics, which allows PVC boat designers and builders to create beautiful and aesthetically pleasing boats for every taste of their customers.
  • PVC boats are considered safer, even in the event of a puncture of the boat's cylinder, the air from the PVC boat's cylinder leaves much slower, leaving the boat owner more time to take measures to rescue the boat and property in the boat. Rubber boats sink faster.

Disadvantages of PVC boats

  • PVC boats, due to the greater rigidity of the material, take up more volume when folded. A rubber boat of the same size when folded will take up less space than a PVC fabric boat.
  • In late autumn, at negative temperatures, when folding a PVC boat, difficulties often arise, due to the fact that the fabric of the boat coarsens, becomes rigid and hard to roll. Although speaking about this drawback, it should be noted that very few people use a boat in subzero temperatures, most owners use an inflatable boat when the ambient temperature is above 15 degrees.
  • Repairing a PVC boat is considered more difficult than repairing a rubber boat. In the early days of the first PVC fabric boats, it was very difficult for boat owners to find glue and a repair kit to fix their boat. Currently, along with each boat made of PVC material, there is a set of glue and a set of patches for repairing punctures and cuts in the field. In addition, through the ads, you can find craftsmen in your city who can fix your PVC boat with high quality, eliminating any problems with your boat.
  • A PVC boat usually costs significantly more than a rubber boat. Although recently the prices for PVC boats have practically equaled the prices for rubber boats.
  • The material of PVC fabric can be easily burned by a cigarette or coal from a fire, so you need to be careful and attentive when using the boat, especially if you are a smoker.

PVC boat selection

A person has a lot of questions when choosing an inflatable boat, especially if this is his first boat. There are several important points to consider when choosing a boat:

  • The size of the boat should correspond to the size of the pond where you will be fishing. The larger the pond, the larger your boat should be.
  • Be sure to consider the number of people who will be in the boat with you.
  • For fishing on a small reservoir: a pond or a small river, a simple rowing boat designed for one, maximum two people is quite enough. For fishing on a large reservoir: a large reservoir, a large river, a lake, it is better to purchase a PVC boat with a transom for installing an outboard motor.
  • Pay attention to the number of cylinders in the boat, there should be at least two, even better than three. The more cylinders in the boat, the safer it is.
  • Boats differ in the density of the PVC fabric they are made of. The higher the density of the fabric, the thicker and stronger the fabric will be, but at the same time the weight of the boat will increase. It is advisable to choose boats with a fairly high density of PVC fabric.
  • The bottom of the boat can be of different design. There are boats with inflatable bottom, as well as boats with plywood or even aluminum bottom.
  • If the boat's driving performance and its stability on the water are of great importance to you, try to test the model of your future boat by taking a boat of the same model from your fellow fishermen and trying it on the water.

* Calculations use average data for Russia

The organization of own boat production requires a relatively large start-up capital (according to some sources from 3-5 million rubles) and, no less important, the presence of great knowledge and experience in this area. The manufacture of such products is a complex and time-consuming process. It can take several months to develop a single model, including design, sample fabrication and testing.

Inflatable boats are used by hunters, tourists and just vacationers. They are relatively reliable, compact, easy to operate, and inexpensive.

There are several of the most well-known Russian manufacturers that specialize in the production of such products: Ufa plant, Yaroslavl plant, LLC PFC Mnev and K, Leader, LLC TD Fregat, TPS Center Mnev, Rotan, Mobile Group "," Solar "; joint ventures: Badger (St. Petersburg - South Korea), Korsar (Moscow / St. Petersburg - South Korea), Petroset (the official representative of Yamaha in Russia). Zodiak, QuickSilver, Suzuki Marine, Honda are among the Western manufacturing companies whose products are actively promoted on the Russian market.

Inflatable boats are rowing and motor boats. The difference lies in their design. The first ones are quite simple and cheap. Their sides are usually divided into several compartments, which gives them greater safety: even if one compartment is damaged, the boat will not sink. The bottom (floor) of the boat is semi-rigid and rigid. In the first case, plastic or plywood is inserted into it, and in the second case, it is fully reinforced with plywood or a plate of light alloys. In addition, sometimes to give the hull more rigidity, it is equipped with a rigid bench that is installed between the sides. In addition to or instead of it, inflatable cushions are also used as seating.

Models with an outboard engine differ noticeably from boats of the first type in design. The nature of the differences depends on the power of the installed engine and the operating conditions of a particular model. The main difference between these boats and rowing boats is the presence of a rigid transom on which the engine is installed, and in more durable elements of its attachment to the hull.

Boats with a small engine up to 2-3 horsepower have either an inflatable bottom or reinforced with transverse rails. They, like ordinary inflatable boats, can easily be folded into a bag for transportation. Boats with a more powerful motor are equipped with rigid floorboards.

Inflatable boat production technology

Several basic materials are used in the production of inflatable boats: reinforced and unreinforced PVC materials, rubberized fabric, polyurethane, hipalon and neoprene. All these materials differ in properties and operating conditions. Most of the boats of domestic production and the cylinders for them are made of reinforced PVC. This material consists of several layers. It is based on a synthetic woven fabric, which is covered on both sides with several layers of PVC. Since polyvinyl chloride in its pure form is a non-plastic substance, polyurethane is added to it during production. There are such types of PVC fabrics as fabric, special for boats and construction. The special "boat" PVC material has several advantages. It is resistant to dirt, abrasion and UV radiation. It is enough to simply repair it if the boat suddenly leaks. The only negative: this material does not lend itself well to local staining. It can only be dyed completely and only at the production stage: special dyes are added to polyvinyl chloride.

The second most popular material in our country that is used for the manufacture of boats is rubberized fabric. Its main advantage is its low price. Unfortunately, among the shortcomings, experts note a small resistance to burnout, abrasion, susceptibility to decay, etc.

Boats made of unreinforced polyvinyl chloride are mainly produced by Western companies. They are inexpensive, lightweight, easy to use. The disadvantages include the ability of this material to stretch under the influence of high temperatures, poor elasticity at low temperatures and low strength. It is also worth noting that if the technology of gluing seams is used in the production of ordinary inflatable boats, then in the manufacture of models from unreinforced PVC the seams of the boat are glued, which increases its reliability.

Ready ideas for your business

Hipalon and neoprene are relatively new materials, but they are already actively used in the production of sports equipment, including wetsuits, boats, etc. They are also multi-layered and made on the basis of synthetic fabric. But unlike PVC, the first woven layer is covered first with a layer of neoprene, and on top of the layers of hipalon. This technology is expensive, so it is not used by domestic companies. In addition, the specificity of the raw materials used does not allow welding such material, which further increases the cost of the finished product. Nevertheless, boats made of such material are of high quality and long service life.

Inflatable boats are also produced from polyurethane itself - the very one that is added to polyvinyl chloride to increase the plasticity of the latter. This material is characterized by high porosity, therefore it easily adheres to the fabric base. Boats made of this material are ideal for use in extreme conditions.

For the manufacture of boats, domestic manufacturers use high-quality materials and components that are brought from other countries (as a rule, European ones - Germany, Poland, France, Italy, etc.). For example, the German company Heytex is considered the leader in the production of special PVC fabric for inflatable boats. Its products are known for their high puncture and abrasion resistance. Also, for the production of boats (except for neoprene models), special equipment for high-frequency welding is required, which allows ensuring complete tightness and strength of the welded seam. UHF welding and vulcanization are used to make seams on PVC-based materials.

The production of PVC boats as a business has long been popular. The profitability of such a project in certain seasons reaches good indicators, and the feedback from the shop owners and the customers themselves speaks of the constant demand for the products.

Is it worth opening such a production and what is needed for this? Many questions scare entrepreneurs, especially newbies, at first. But all the nuances can be dealt with gradually. Moreover, this process is unhurried. The main thing is to maintain the quality of the manufactured products at a decent level.

Business features

This business line may seem too busy. There is indeed high competition on the market among well-known domestic and foreign manufacturers. But individual groups of tourists, fishermen and other individuals sometimes prefer a local manufacturer who personally monitors the quality of each product produced. Moreover, you can buy a boat from such entrepreneurs at an affordable price.

But there are certain difficulties that a novice businessman should definitely consider:

  1. Such a thing as the manufacture and sale of PVC boats can only be dealt with by a person who is familiar with the technological process firsthand. Indeed, even with automated equipment, you need to have experience in the selection of material, know how the devices work, navigate their settings and be able to test the finished product.
  2. The process itself takes a long period. PVC boats are not a commodity that is produced in mass quantities. Depending on the type of product, it takes 2 to 6 months to create and test it. Although with powerful equipment and a significant staff of employees, this process can be accelerated.
  3. Severe competition scares off a budding entrepreneur. PVC boats are produced by well-known brands and are sold in all tourist and fishing shops, making finding customers an especially difficult task.
  4. In this area, there is a strict dependence on the season. They sell goods only from mid-spring to early autumn. The rest of the time, the products will be mostly idle on the shelves or in the warehouse.

Varieties of boats

Mankind has already come up with many options for improvised transport in order to move on the water surface. Among them, the most popular over the years have become ordinary wooden and inflatable. For a tourist or an amateur fisherman, the latter are more interesting, since when folded they take up little space, and they can be transported with you to any chosen recreation area. Therefore, PVC boats as a business are considered a promising direction.

Among the inflatable varieties are:

  • Motor - characterized by the presence of an engine that is attached to a rigid transom. Thanks to the power of the motor, the boat picks up high speeds and enables a person to move in a short time to the right place. In their manufacture, the plant adheres to certain GOSTs.
  • Rowing boats are more interesting for a private entrepreneur, as they consist entirely of inflatable elements. Their operation is also easy, simple and safe. The sides are usually additionally divided into several compartments, which prevents the craft from sinking even if one of them is damaged.

In both the first and second versions, the bottom of the boat can be different - semi-rigid (made of plastic or plywood) or rigid, for the manufacture of which light alloys are used. Sometimes, for greater strength and convenience, a bench is also attached between the sides.

Raw materials for manufacturing

Today, various materials are used for the production of inflatable boats:

  1. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) - it can be reinforced and unreinforced. The first option is more common, since it has good strength, dirt and UV resistance. Such material, if necessary, is easy to repair, although it is quite difficult to repaint. The composition contains a dense synthetic woven fabric and a polyurethane coating. This combination provides the best product performance. Unreinforced PVC is more often chosen as a basis by foreign manufacturers, but it is less durable and unreliable.
  2. The rubberized fabric is not resistant to sunlight, and the strength characteristics are much lower. But such materials are valued for their availability and cheapness. True, a boat made of such fabric has a short service life.
  3. Hypalon and neoprene are relatively new raw materials for inflatable boats. Differs in high cost, but also has the highest quality during operation. A finished product made from such material will last more than one year.
  4. Polyurethane is rarely used as a single element. It is usually combined with polyvinyl chloride and applied to a fabric base.

Please note that for the manufacture of boats to order or for sale, you will have to take a responsible approach to the choice of material. In the state standards and requirements for the finished product, the density of PVC fabric is indicated at 640 g / m2. But manufacturers who care about the quality of their products try to play it safe and opt for a density of 850 g / m2 for the side part and 1100 for the bottom.

This provides greater operational reliability.

Technology

The whole process of creating an inflatable boat goes through the following stages:

  • Selection of the highest quality material. This should be done personally, so a person involved in such a business must have some experience.
  • Cutting out parts according to the required shape and size of the finished product. It uses a pattern made on a special machine or standard stencils. If you use a laser machine for this, then each part will exactly correspond to the specified parameters, and its edges will be perfectly even.
  • Assembly of the boat, which can occur in two ways - gluing or welding. In each case, you need special equipment. For the first option of joining parts, a special adhesive based on a polyurethane base is used. And to avoid the risks of rupture, layering of parts together. Welding is a more reliable way of joining elements, which is performed using an ultrasonic installation and the use of hot air.

At the end of the work, the product is necessarily tested to ensure its quality, strength and reliability during operation.

Equipment for the production of

For maximum automation of all stages, you need to purchase modern equipment:

  1. Apparatus for creating patterns of parts - today they use high-precision laser equipment for this, due to which it is possible to avoid any defects.
  2. Special machine for gluing elements or for welding, depending on the selected production option.
  3. You should also purchase additional tools, a table for the work of the master, consumables, pumps, etc.

Such equipment is distinguished by its convenience and a fully automated process, which allows minimizing personnel costs. Since this item of expenses in the business plan will be too high, beginners should stop at domestic devices or purchase used ones.

Sales of products

Most of the difficulties can arise at the stage of selling finished products. Since there is high competition on the market among famous brands and manufacturers, it is worth considering how to sell your own product. Various channels can be used for this:

  • Make an agreement with specialized shops (tourist and fishing).
  • Post ads on the Internet, social groups, create your own website and communicate with people on the forums.
  • You can promote your own brand through standard advertising platforms - media, transport, billboards.
  • Communicate personally with potential customers and describe the advantages and benefits of purchasing goods from you (thorough quality control of the product, own operating experience, cheap prices).

Manufacturers of inflatable and rigid-frame boats in the design and manufacture of their products strive to take into account the vast natural and climatic conditions, the possible conditions of water bodies, the operational requirements of numerous fishermen and hunters.

Software for the design of sketches and final drawings, automated cutting, manufacturing of component parts and assemblies on high-precision CNC machines allow the factories to produce small boats close to European quality standards.

For the manufacture of inflatable boats (and parts), domestic factories use:

  • rubberized fabric. Low price of the product, but weak strength. The disadvantage of the material is mold if the storage rules are not followed, characterizes the lowest-budget version of the floating vehicle.
  • reinforced five-layer PVC fabric. Thermoplastic polymer "PolyVinyl Chloride" is obtained from oil and sodium chloride. Polyester reinforcing cord gives strength and resistance to penetrating cuts and punctures. The outer polymer layer is waterproof, is not destroyed by ultraviolet light, and is resistant to salt water and fuels and lubricants. The seams are easily and reliably welded with hot air or glued with polymer adhesives.
  • hypoolon. Airtight polymer material. Does not require pumping for 6-10 weeks. Stronger and more durable than PVC. The impossibility of air welding of seams requires equipping with additional special equipment.
  • polyurethane. Material for boats used in extreme conditions. It is strong, plastic, reliably reinforced, easily glued due to sufficient porosity, and is resistant to abrasion.

In the manufacture of rigid hull boats, polymeric fiberglass mixtures, various types of plywood, rolled aluminum alloy AMg5M are used. Good plasticity of the alloy for pressing and cold stamping, strength, lightness, reliable weldability, corrosion resistance have ensured the widespread use of the alloy in shipbuilding with the title "marine".

PVC boat production technology relatively stable for several decades and at the same time undergoing some changes and modernization. Changes in production occur both in the materials used - the structure of the PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and in the technology of working with it. become stronger and more resistant to external influences.

Materials for the manufacture of PVC inflatable boats

Not so long ago, rubberized fabric was used in production, but gradually this material gave way to PVC coated fabrics.
PVC materialused in production is a fabric with PVC coated. Pvc can be either single-layer or multi-layer, which affects its strength and elongation. Domestic standard pVC material limited only by resistance to temperature - from 5 to 60 degrees and resistance to sea water contaminated with oil products. European standards are more detailed and regulate strength PVC fabric tear resistance and abrasion resistance.
The basis for pVC material braided thread serves. The weave of a woven base differs in the number of threads in the bundle (usually 1 or 2) and the density between adjacent parallel threads. The number of threads in weaving is indicated in the name of the PVC material (1/1 - one thread intersect with each other, 2/2 - pairs of threads intersect, 1/2 - one thread intersects with a pair of threads).
The next important parameter of fabrics for production is the density of the finished material. It is usually expressed in grams per square meter. Some manufacturers pVC fabrics indicate this parameter in the name of the material.
Also PVC fabrics are characterized by tensile strength and degree of adhesion. Force applied to break pVC fabric, can consist of two numbers, showing the required force when breaking the fabric along the weave and across it. The degree of adhesion also indicates the required pull-off force. Pvc from the base.
The vast majority of manufacturers pVC boats use imported materials to build their ships. Among the most famous brands Pvc materials: Vinyplan, Scanplan, Heytex, Valmex, Plastel, Mirasol, Unisol. There are other brands of these materials, but almost all of them have the same characteristics.
Choosing a PVC boat, the buyer wants to get reliability, but it should be borne in mind that modern PVC materials the harder the stronger. Therefore, manufacturers have identified a compromise in this matter and many use PVC fabricthat meets the requirements of the standards.
Another type of material for the production of inflatable boats is hypoolon... Boats made of this material are more expensive (due to the higher cost of the material itself and the complication of working with the hypoolon). At the same time, the hypo is stronger Pvc and practically does not allow air to pass through. Besides boats from highpolon last longer. Usually, the choice is in favor of boats from highpolon are made by those who need redundant reliability, the possibility of permanent storage in the open air and the constant readiness of the boat for operation. For the usual infrequent tourist and fishing purposes in central Russia, it is quite sufficient.
