Detailed information:

The Linear LED Fighter developed by Seinar Fleet Systems, also called the LED Fighter, was one of the first flat-wing vehicles to serve as the basis for other LED family vehicles and was used in most of the Galactic Civil War.

LED Fighter is a fairly efficient maneuverable single fighter with a small spherical cockpit mounted between two huge wings with solar panels.

The machine drives the movement, originally created for the machine, which received the designation S.I.D. advanced dual ion engine (LED) for high speed. The engine consumes very little fuel, but provides the machine with unsurpassed speed and maneuverability, allowing it to overtake most rebel fighters, except, perhaps.

Also, a fighter can enter the atmosphere and develop a speed of up to 1200 kilometers per hour (contrary to rumors, the car does not fall apart from entering the atmosphere, especially under normal combat conditions).

Armed with just a couple of standard laser guns, the serial LED Fighter has to rely on speed and numerical superiority and thus crush the enemy. Since the emphasis is on speed, each structural element is designed to reduce the weight of the machine. Therefore, heavy generators and thick armored plates were not used (like all machines in the LED family, it has a titanium alloy body and wings with solar panels made of an alloy of steel and quadanium). This makes the LED Fighter extremely vulnerable to enemy fire, but at the same time, the small cabin and the high mobility of the ship make it an extremely difficult target. A bulky and life-support system was also sacrificed to speed.

Almost all sources indicate that the LED Fighters had hexagonal wings with solar panels (in profile making them look like the SSC sign), however, the War for the Bacta says that they were octagonal.

The pilot of the LED Fighter, which other imperial pilots consider suicides, is content with a meager combat ration, designed for a couple of days. Also, pilots are forced to put on airtight flight overalls, with a separate oxygen source and an atmospheric converter. The LED Fighter itself has very little fuel in stock and requires refueling in a few hours. These restrictions turn the LED Fighter into an extremely short-range vehicle. A Star Destroyer, an orbiting space station or planetary base should be located next to this fighter.

The power consumption of the LED Fighter is balanced: it does not consume more than extremely efficient generators can provide. Massive wings also convert sunlight into energy and transmit it to generators, which account for most of the mass of the fighter. These generators literally encircled the whole machine. Separate generators generated energy, which was fed by a pair of front mounted laser guns.

The interior of the cabin is Spartan, but elegant in its simplicity. The pilot was fastened to a small gravity-compensating seat and additionally protected against overloads by a coarse repulsor antigravity system and emergency belts. The pilot's legs were inserted into the control pedals, with the help of which speed was gained and maneuvers were performed. The helm located directly in front of the pilot controls the machine’s laser guns, navigation computer and guidance computer. Using the helm you can also change the speed and direction of movement.

Since LED Fighters are very sensitive to the effects on the helm and pedals, inexperienced pilots can easily lose control of the machine during complex maneuvers and find themselves rushing somewhere in space. In addition, novice pilots often cannot simultaneously use the helm to maneuver and fire, but veterans, in the end, begin to control the machine to the limit of its capabilities.

Contrary to popular belief, LED Fighter aircraft were equipped with ejection seats, but war in space dictated its conditions: crashed pilots preferred to go to ram to die quickly rather than slowly from cold and lack of oxygen.

There was no LED-Fighter landing gear and therefore could only land in specially equipped hangars.

The Imperials used LED Fighters everywhere, putting pressure on their opponents and argued that in place of each downed pilot there would be a thousand others.

LED Fighters were located at almost every imperial base, from a small planetary stronghold to massive space stations. Seventy-two of these fighters are on board, and the hangars of the first Death Star contained up to seven thousand of these aircraft.

LED Fighter is cheap in both production and maintenance. In the heyday of the Empire, Sienar Fleet Systems mass-produced LED Fighters on a staggering scale: thousands of starships per year. This makes it one of the most visible vehicles in the Empire’s fleet, even decades later, when the LED Fighter was outdated and had to give way to newer and more expensive models.

The cadets completing their studies at various Imperial Academies were vigorously pursued by recruiters and eventually occupied seats in the cockpit of the LED Fighters. Many of them ended their life there.

Imperial tactics considered LED Fighters to be consumables and therefore the list of tasks for these vehicles included an attack on rebel ships, as well as raids against pirates, other enemy ships, space stations and other objects. Often assigned to escort services, LED Fighters were ordered to defend cruisers or planetary bases from rebel forces. Their secondary task is to accompany and assist them in attacking planetary bases. Typically, LED Fighters are assembled in squadrons consisting of twelve vehicles. The wing consists of six squadrons or seventy-two vehicles.

The success of the serial LED Fighter is a feat for Sienar Fleet Systems to expand the range and release various modifications of this machine to perform certain tasks. The most successful models include the successor to the LED Fighter -.

But there were other projects. For example, LED Reconnaissance, reminiscent of a regular LED Fighter, but equipped with numerous advanced sensors and communication devices for use as a scout. Its successor was the more efficient LED Scout, and then the LED Vanguard. Another model, LED Corrector, helps to adjust the fire of large ships. Another modification of the LED Fighter was an impromptu attack aircraft, which became the forerunner of an even more powerful one. During development, Sienar Fleet Systems designed the machine Dart Vader flew during the Battle of At.

Shortly before the destruction of the second Death Star, Sienar Fleet Systems introduced a new machine -. This fighter had three wings with solar panels, numerous weapons and a good one. About six years after the battle for, the company revealed a fully automated, first fighter series that was fully computer controlled. Also, the designers of the LED Fighter were not limited to the creation of aircraft and built the LED Caterpillar - a small tank recognizable thanks to the spherical cockpit, which took part in ground operations.

The New Republic has limited use of captured and equipped LEDs in sectors where the LED Fighter was not considered an imperial symbol. The most famous operation in which the New Republic applied LEDs was the battle of Adumar.

By the time the peace treaty was signed, the Imperials (the Empire had become a Shard by that time) had begun exporting fighters made by other companies (a vivid example is SoroSuub's "Bird of Prey"), because they simply lacked the production capacity for continuous construction new LED Fighter.

LED Fighter is equipped with the following systems:

Navigation Computer: Seinar Fleet Systems N-s6

Guidance System: Seinar Fleet Systems T-s8

Avionics: Seinar Fleet Systems F-s3.2

Solar Ionization Reactor: Seinar Fleet Systems I-a2b

The Tie Line Fighter (Tie / Ln) developed by Sienar Fleet Systems has been used by the Empire throughout the Civil War. This is one of the most efficient fighters ever made. Tie / Ln uses a twin ion engine. This gave the fighter his name. The configuration of the engine requires a very small amount of fuel, but allows you to achieve amazing speed and maneuverability.

Tie Fighter relies on its speed, so the design of the fighter is focused entirely on speed. For this reason, the ship lacks a protective field generator and thick armor. Tie Fighter is very vulnerable, but because of its speed and small silhouette, it is very difficult to get into the ship.

In pursuit of weight reduction, engineers sacrificed a hyperdrive and life support system. The pilot can exist on its own support for about 2 days, and the fuel is only enough for a few hours. For these reasons, Tie Fighter is a short-range fighter dependent on a Star Destroyer or base. Tie Fighter’s pilots wear heavy space suits with their own supply of oxygen and energy.

The power plant of the ship is designed for maximum efficiency. The bulk of the ship is made up of generators and batteries. Each of the two laser guns is powered by a separate generator.

The cabin inside is very simple. The pilot is in a special compensating seat surrounded by a repulsor field. The pilot's feet are on the pedals, with which he controls the speed and course of the ship. The steering wheel also controls the course and speed, but also contains buttons for controlling the lasers, navigation, and target search. Tie Fighter is very sensitive to helm movements and young pilots often lose control of the ship. Also, beginners find it difficult to control and aims at the same time using only the buttons on the helm. But experienced pilots can squeeze out of Tie Fighter "and all that he can do.

When using Tie Fighters, imperial forces always count on numerical superiority over the enemy. It is sometimes said that instead of one Tie Fighter’s shot down, the Empire produces a thousand. Tie Fighters can be found anywhere in the galaxy from a small base in the Outer Territories to the Emperor’s Palace on Coruscant. The Standard Star Destroyer carries 36 of these vehicles aboard, the first Death Star had about 7,000. To make up for the Empire’s losses, Sienar Fleet Systems produced more than 1000 Tie Fighters per year.

Tie Fighters can solve a wide range of various tasks: attack fighters, escorting convoys, patrolling, protecting ships and bases. Tie Fighters are organized into squadrons of 12 fighters. The full air squadron has 72 fighter jets and consists of 6 squadrons.

Following Tie Fighter’s successes, the Sienar Fleet System continued to develop the Tie series ships, which led to the creation of a large number of modifications and new ships.

Detailed description

The TIE / Ln space fighter designed by the Sienar Fleet and used by the Empire during the Galactic Civil War is one of the most maneuverable and frighteningly effective starships ever created. The TIE / Ln is equipped with the same advanced Ion Engine (TIE) developed by Sienar, which gave the name to the fighter. This engine consumes a very small amount of fuel, but allows the TIE to achieve incredible speed and maneuverability, exceeding in these parameters most of the rebel ships, with the exception of A-wing fighters.

Since the main thing in TIE fighters is speed, everything was done during its development to reduce its weight. In particular, they refused to use bulky generators of protective fields and powerful armor. As a result, TIE fighters are very vulnerable. However, due to their small size and extreme mobility, it is very difficult to get into them.

Continuing to facilitate TIE, the developers threw the hyperdrive and life support system out of the project. The fighter has a very scarce supply of food, water and air, which is sufficient for no more than 2 days, there is also a rather limited amount of fuel. During the battle, TIEs must be refilled every few hours. Due to these limitations, TIE fighters have a short range and are constantly tied to a base - a star destroyer, an orbiting space station or a hangar on the surface of the planet. In addition, TIE pilots (other Imperials consider them suicides) are forced to wear a sealed suit with a supply of oxygen and an air recycling system.

The energy production and consumption processes of TIE fighters are also perfected in efficiency. The wings of the ship absorb solar radiation and transmit energy to powerful generators, which make up most of the mass of the fighter, as well as to numerous batteries installed throughout the spaceship. The two synchronized laser guns, aimed forward, are powered by separate generators located in the lower part of the cab.

The cabin interior is elegant minimalism. The pilot is fastened to a cushioning seat, in case of a collision it is protected by an anti-gravity field and seat belts. His feet are on the pedals, allowing you to change the speed of flight and turn. In the center of the control panel is a trigger that controls laser guns, a guidance computer and a navigation computer. It also allows you to adjust the speed or direction of movement. TIE fighters are extremely sensitive to pilot actions. Inexperienced pilots can easily lose control by completing complex figures and fly far into space. In addition, it is often difficult for beginners to simultaneously maneuver and shoot using a single trigger, although experienced TIE pilots can squeeze out everything they can from a fighter.

The Empire counted on the numerical superiority of TIE fighters over the enemy. It was said that a thousand new ones will take the place of every TIE shot down. TIE fighters were present at almost every imperial base, from small planetary ones to huge space stations. The Star Destroyers were staffed with seventy-two TIEs, and seven thousand of these starships were based on the first Death Star. During the heyday of the Empire, Sienar Fleet Engineering produced TIE fighters in astounding numbers, many thousands annually. Graduates of the most diverse military schools of the Empire, passing through the hands of recruiters, sat at the control panel of the TIE fighter, and many lost their lives there.

TIE fighters grouped into squadrons of 12 ships. The wing consisted of six squadrons, or 72 fighters.

In the wake of the TIE fighter’s success, Sienar Fleet has developed many of its options for special missions. Some of the most successful models were the TIE bomber and the TIE interceptor. Another variation was TIE / rc, which differed from the TIE fighter in more advanced sensors and communication devices for use in reconnaissance; this model was followed by a TIE scout (TIE scout), and finally, a highly protected TIE avant-garde (TIE vanguard). Another model, TIE / fc, coordinated firing and artillery guidance systems on large ships, and TIE / gt was an intermediate version of the assault planetary ship, which later developed into the TIE bomber and the even more powerful Scimitar assault bomber. Developing the TIE interceptor, Sienar engineers created the prototype TIE Advanced x1 (TIE Advanced x1 Prototype), which Darth Vader flew at the Battle of Yavin.

Shortly before the destruction of the second Death Star, Sienar introduced a brand new model - TIE Defender (TIE Defender). This fighter had three wing-solar panels, numerous weapons and a full hyperdrive. About six years after the Battle of Endor, the company released the fully automated TIE / D, the first fighter fully controlled by the droid (obviously, fighter droids from episode I do not count, since they were controlled from the central station - approx. Per.). TIE developers even produced ground-based combat vehicles, the most widely known is the TIE crawler (TIE crawler), a small tank with a typical TIE cabin.

Behind the scenes

Like most starships in the ZB trilogy, TIE fighters appear on the screen thanks to detailed models shot on a blue background. The TIE models made for The New Hope were 43 cm tall, while those appearing in The Empire Strikes Back are slightly larger at 48 cm in height.

In the first TIE fighter models, the connections between the wings and the cockpit were much thinner. However, because of this, when the models hung from poles, the wings began to vibrate. Vibrations disappeared only when the joints were strengthened.

For the “Empire” models were made with a blue tint, but during the shooting they were lost against the background of the blue screen, and the fighters were repainted in completely black.

For numerous explosions, TIE fighters made special models. For example, in the movie Empire Strikes Back, the TIE fighter, chasing the Millennium Falcon, hits an asteroid and goes into a tailspin. To model this, a TIE with a broken wing was made. Then the model was twisted around the axis on which it rested.

When creating a special edition of the trilogy, special attention was paid to TIE fighters. In particular, the jerky movements of the fighters were aligned on the ILM, making their flight smoother. Also updated TIE laser shots.

This is our joint project in which we will talk about the most interesting things of the film universe that are undeservedly left without attention, and only loyal fans know them. Little-known characters and organizations, parsing events, all the most interesting about the world of a distant Galaxy

The material is taken from the wonderful YouTube channel "Star Wars Explained". Russian-language subtitles appear there extremely rarely - this is what has grown into our idea.

TIE / LED - a series of starships, which has been in service with the Galactic Empire from its very foundation, as well as the First Order. Sidki are some of the most familiar and famous spaceships of the Faraway-Faraway Galaxy.

The name comes from the "Twin Ion Engine" or "Dual Ion Engine", which directly indicates the features of their technical structure.

We are familiar with such models as the Fighter, Interceptor, Bomber, or, for example, the Defender. However, there are a great many different varieties produced during different periods of the Rebellion, as well as the beginning of the New Republic.

Today we will try to tell you about all the significant models of the Tai-series, however, we will only touch on the Old Canon. A lot of material, so it will be interesting! : smiley:

TIE-Fighter / LED Fighter

Fighters were the backbone of the imperial fleet, so they were produced in unprecedentedly huge quantities. Fast, maneuverable, cheap to manufacture - in short, perfect air force.

However, due to their mass, they had to simplify their design as much as possible: there was no hyperdrive and even a small shield generator. Among the rebels, there was an opinion about the suicidal nature of flying on such fighters, which to some extent was true.

TIE Advanced x1 / LED Superior x1

This model was used personally by Darth Vader during space battles or near-combat flights. He had a hyperdrive, good shields, and the features of his design were used to produce future models. Unfortunately, this fighter did not receive mass or significant improvements.

TIE-Bomber / LED Bomber

The main feature of the "bomber" is the side compartment to the left of the cockpit. It could have rockets, proton bombs, mines, thermal detonators, or propaganda brochures.

There were no shields, as well as a hyperdrive, but often this was compensated by good side skin. Due to its bulkiness, a powerful engine was installed on it, but even this did not bring it closer to the speed of the “fighter”.

There was a reinforced version containing an additional bomb compartment, as well as a civilian modification - the bombs were replaced by a spacious cabin for cargo and passengers. There was a model in the Empire where infantry was located in the compartments (TIE Boarding Shuttle / LED Airborne Shuttle). Such ships were used to deliver troops or boarding other ships.

TIE-Interceptor / LED Interceptor

A more powerful version of the Fighter, characterized by grandiose combat power, the presence of a hyperdrive and shield. The engine was also strengthened, which is why only experienced imperials of higher than average rank became pilots.

Their production had a good effect on the military success of the Empire, therefore, by the time of the Battle of Endor, the Interceptors accounted for 20% of the entire light fleet.

So, here we went through all kinds of "seed" that appeared in the movies. Following the release of The Return of the Jedi, a huge number of games, comics, desktops and novels were released. They expanded the line of "Thai", and very seriously.

TIE-Agressor / LED-Aggressor

At its core, the assembly of the Fighter and the Bomber. The main feature is the stern gun, which allows you to fight back from the pursuit.

TIE-Avenger / LED Avenger

Improved copy of Interceptor. Excellent shields, weapons and speed allow us to say that the Empire began to worry very much about reliability, and less about the cost of its combat units.

TIE Defender / LED Protector

One of the most advanced "seed" in history. Great stuffing, coupled with weapons went against the cost of the ship, which was far from cheap. Almost veterans of the imperial fleet, who managed to survive at least 20 flights on the Interceptor, were taken as pilots.

In the New Canon, by the way, the development of the Defenders was personally supervised by Grand Admiral Thrawn.

TIE Drone / LED Drone

Used by the Palpatine clone in Dark Empire comics. There was no place for a pilot, and at the same time possessed high strength.

TIE-Hunter / LED-Hunter

LED specially designed for battles with X-wings. It’s funny to realize that the wing open-close function was completely copied from the rebel fighter. Possessed hyper and shields, and imperial commandos acted as pilots, i.e. the real elite of the armed forces.

TIE-Punishers / LED Punisher

Also known as LED “Counter” or “Progressive LED Bomber”

It was one of the best fighter models, which was famous for its effectiveness during the fighting.

Why do you need two weapon systems, if you can use four?

“Punishers” have shields, but do not have a hyperdrive, which is its main weak point in battle. Such LEDs are usually armed with proton torpedoes, proton bombs, plasma torpedoes, swept torpedoes, as well as homing missiles, bomb cassettes or ion bombs.

TIE-Light Duty / LED-Light Type

Also known as LED-Low Power

It was usually a stripped-down copy of an ordinary LED. Maybe that is why during the space battles he was no use. He was ineffective in battle, but he quickly found another use. Training apparatus! At the "Low Power" young pilots learned to drive and shoot.

TIE-Opressor / LED Oppressor

This attack fighter was the Empire’s response to the Y-wing starfighter created by the rebels and acted as a light bomber. They are well protected and armed to the teeth, but they do not have a hyperdrive. The "oppressors" took part in the Battle of Yavin, where almost all were killed by rebel forces.

TIE-Phantom / LED Ghost

It was equipped with difflector shields, a hyperdrive, but most importantly, a stygium masking device. It was used in battle for a very fleeting period, because the factory for the production of "Ghosts" was before destroyed by the Rebel Alliance, and the production of these fighters was stopped forever.

These fighters can evade sensors and scanners, becoming invisible, which was previously impossible for ships of this size.

Each Ghost was also equipped with a self-destruction system. This was done in order to prevent invisibility technology from falling into the hands of enemies.

TIE / RC was similar to TIE / FC because it was built to carry out reconnaissance missions.

Weapons and shields were “sacrificed” in order to put special sensors capable of reading any information of the enemy outside the scanning area of \u200b\u200bthe main ships. Thus, the RC could read the necessary information and go unnoticed. Good thing, hmm.

TIE / rc did not have a hyperdrive, so it was only suitable for use at short distances, within 1 system.

TIE-Vanguard / LED Vanguard

Updated TIE / RC model. It was equipped with powerful shields that can withstand several volleys of laser guns. The Vanguard is a more specialized ship than the RC, designed not for combat, but for data collection. Also, it is worth noting that the “Vanguard” had its own modified design, which made it unlike its counterparts.

TIE-Sentinel / LED-Sentinel

The Sentry LED is very similar to the Aggressor LED, it has the same design and the same gun at the stern, but the Sentry has one feature - front and rear homing turrets, which gives this piece of equipment a lucky advantage - you can at the same time fight off enemies, both in front and behind.

The wing panels of the ship were very unusual in shape - narrow and pressed against the hull, they reduced the silhouette of the ship and reduced its vulnerability.

TIE-Scout / LED Scout

Another LED designed for intelligence. Its main advantage and subject of pride for this fighter was a hyperdrive - in no other TIE is there a better hyperdrive than in Scout. The hyperdrive's power and endurance allowed it to complete missions without the help of the main ship.

TIE-Skimitar / LED - Saber Curve

The Saber Curve LED Bomber was not based on LED technology, instead using a different design. His cockpit doubled due to a massive rescue capsule, through which pilots could leave the fighter in case of emergency.

The hull is made in the form of one elongated armored module, and the cockpit is pulled forward and protrudes beyond the wing panels thereby providing the crew with excellent visibility.

TIE-Predator / LED- Predator

Majestic and powerful fighters of the "Predator" type were widely used 130 years after the battle of Yavin.

This TIE is very maneuverable and fast, its wings can occupy different positions, which, of course, makes its operation more convenient. Predators are equipped with difflector shields, as well as a hyperdrive.

Nitralizer Bomb

Neutralizer bombers were developed using the TIE-Predator design and were used during the Sith Empire and the Fell Empire.

The neutralizers were then sent to deliver air strikes at any place. For example, during the Great Hyperspace War, the neutralizers of the Sith Empire destroyed an entire city in the Outer Ring.

TIE-Raptor / LED-Vulture

It was developed by the imperial warlord Zinj within a few years after the Battle of Endor. He has very weak shields, but it’s hard to get into. There is in the fleet of the First Order.

Let's talk about the experimental projects of the Galactic Empire.

Even during the reign of Emperor Palpatine, the Imperials decided to create new LEDs. For this reason, under the leadership of Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin, a research project was created, during which new TIE fighters created with the latest technology were created and tested.

TIE-Bizarro / LED-Bizzaro

Code Name - M1

It was one of the pilot projects developed by the Galactic Empire.

The M1 consisted of a single wing coupled to a pair of standard TIE series cabs containing control elements, weapons, and engines.

The right cockpit is modified and serves as a place for a heavy laser gun.

Like all experimental models, the Bizzaro was remotely controlled.

TIE-Biggun / LED-Big Gun

Codename - M2

The standard mounted guns at the stern of the fighter were removed, but the imperial engineers equipped the M2 with two huge turbo-laser installations, which were located on both wings.

The "big gun" is one of the heaviest "sitters". Despite the good armament, the M2 is completely maneuverable, but rather the other way around - slow and slow due to its massive weight.

TIE-Warhead / LED-Rocket

Code Name - M3

The eccentricity of the design of this "sitka" was that next to the wings were large laser guns for warheads. M3 belongs to the category of weapons of mass destruction and may well erase the dreadnought into powder.

The Sequel Trilogy did not appear.

TIE-Bomb / LED Bomb

The code name is M4.

In fact, he was not a fighter.

Instead, it was a guided missile of enormous power, designed to destroy linear ships, dreadnought and space stations.

TIE-Booster / LED-Inciter

Code Name - M5

This is a standard LED with only one difference - next to the engine it has an ion amplifier, which provides additional speed.

And finally, I would like to talk about very little-known fighters, which appear only occasionally in comics and computer games. And opens our list ...

TIE-Crawler / Crawler LED

Its design resembles other TIE variants, but unlike others, it was a light tank used for a ground attack.

TIE-Mauler / LED-Torturer

The Torturer is another ground-based assault tank. He was much faster and much better armed than the Tracked LED.

TIE- Underwater Boat / LED Submarine

Mentioned in several comic books from the era of “The Old Republic” and “Rise of the Empire”. Used for underwater operations.

Perhaps this is all that we managed to find. We tried very hard and will be very grateful if you support us with like or comment.
