Creativity and dynamics in the interior is the key to success.

You can decorate any room in the house or apartment with photos. The main thing is that the chosen principle and style correspond to the general spirit of the room and echo with it in terms of colors and mood. But in this case, there should be a lot of them in order to veneer the entire wall with them, like tiles. So you can decorate the hallway or office.

Despite the age of color digital photography, black and white pictures never go out of fashion. Even modern photos in monochrome have their own special charm. They focus on the image itself.

Photos arranged in ascending order of size look very ugly. One of the strongest methods is placing one large picture on one wall.

Good afternoon friends!

Bare empty walls in the rooms sometimes evoke boredom, so quite often we decorate them with paintings, panels, hang shelving. Decorating the wall with photographs has become popular again, as in the old days. And to make your gallery of photos look stylish and beautiful, you need to know just a few rules on how to place photos on the wall, whether photos are framed or without them. This is what today's topic will be about.

Rules for posting photos on the wall

On the wall in our gallery are different in shape, size, color, style, genre of photos we would like to see. With all this, they need to be somehow harmoniously combined into one whole in order to get a stylish composition. We will figure out how to beautifully place photos and how to do it correctly.

Choice of photographic material

I remember from my childhood, with what pleasure I looked at family photos on the wall of my grandmother's room. There were no albums then, and all the photos of different generations were hung over the sofas, and my grandmother always told some story from them.

I think that now there is no such need to turn the room into a photo studio and hang everything in a row. Let's choose the most the best photos which we would always like to see before our eyes.

For the bedroom, wedding photos or those taken during the honeymoon are suitable.

In the nursery, as a rule, they post photos of children.

In the living room - general photos against the backdrop of nature, in the kitchen - pictures with images of their pets - cats and dogs.

The number of photos can vary from one bright large shot to several, and it is possible to use photos of the same or different sizes.

Photos of the same size always look advantageous, they are perfectly placed on the wall both in width and height, creating strict geometric shapes such as a square or rectangle, as well as others, for example, in the shape of a heart.

Frame photos

It is preferable to place photos on the wall in frames. Small photos can first be issued in the passport, and then framed.

Here you need to observe a single style: it is desirable that the frames be painted in the same color, regardless of their size, thickness and material from which they are made. Photo frames are fun to make with your own hands. We have several . Only for the most part, such home-made frames are suitable for decorating one or two photos, and not a whole gallery.

Color photographs look harmonious in black or white frames.

Black and white photos are good in gilded frames.

In a room with bright accessories, place photos in silver frames, and in bright rooms, strict black frames will act as a bright accent.

How to post photos correctly

While preparing the material, I met an excellent video by an interior designer and everything became very clear. Knowing the basic compositional principles of placing photos on the wall, you can very beautifully and at the same time decorate the wall in the room with photographs in an original way.

There are only two principles of placement:

  1. symmetry
  2. equilibrium

The principle of symmetry is a simple and safe way to arrange photos on the wall.

Whatever photo size you choose, you need to place them on the wall, observing symmetry. For example, in the center place one big photo, and to the left and right of it are small. Or place four small photos under two large ones.

A few examples can be seen in the diagrams. If you mentally draw a vertical line (axis of symmetry) in the center, then it is obvious that all images are symmetrically located to the left and right of it.

The plot in the photographs can be different, but the shape and size of those placed on both sides of the axis of symmetry are fundamental.

Moreover, another object can be placed in the center: a picture or a mirror.

If everything is clear and simple with the arrangement of photos above the sofa, then when placing photos above the table, you need to take into account what else can be on it. All items placed on it should become a single whole in the composition with photographs.

The second principle "Balance" is clearly shown in the following diagrams.

Again, we mentally draw a line in the center and see that the objects on both sides of it are not symmetrical, but the large photo on the left (in the first diagram) is balanced by four small photographs on the right.

This is also clearly seen in other examples.

Any object hanging on the wall or standing next to it on a table or shelf (mirror, candlestick, vase, clock, floor lamp) can also act as a balance, which makes the composition even more interesting.

Where to post photos

Most often, photographs are hung above a sofa or bed, above a table, just on a free wall.

As well as for, when placing photographs on the wall, the rule of their location at eye level applies, because if it is higher, then it will simply not be convenient to look at them.

Sometimes photos are placed so that their bottom edge is on the same line, or the photos are placed up and down symmetrically about a horizontal line.

How to fit a lot of photos in a room

There is a classic arrangement of 10 photographs arranged so that they form a rectangle.

In the following diagram, you can see that this is a large photo on the right, to the left of it there are two rows of smaller photos, rotated horizontally and vertically, one square photo.

Beneath this composition is another row of square photos and a horizontally stretched photo.

Now we take all the selected pictures and lay them out on the floor, experimenting. Shall we rotate our composition 90 degrees, maybe 180 or 270?

Let's add 10 more to these photos, placing them symmetrically with respect to the existing ones vertically or horizontally.

You can try to shift the location of part of the composition down, for example, this option is just right for placing the photo above the stairs.

In general, experiment.

Let me remind you basic rules for posting photos on the wall:

  1. Uniform style
  2. Color spectrum
  3. Symmetry
  4. Equilibrium
  5. Eye level.

These simple rules will help you beautifully place photos in the room.

How to post photos without borders

If you don’t have photo frames, or there are so many photos that it’s impossible to frame everything, or if you just want to place photos creatively, I suggest the following idea.

We find an ordinary twig on a walk in the park or in the country, it will go as a crossbar on which we will hang a photo.

We will need more rope and tape.

With the help of adhesive tape we attach photos to the ropes and hang them on the crossbar.

Some young ladies confuse the decor of the walls in the interior with her husband, believing that he should be chosen once and for all. Not at all: there are a thousand legal ways to change the picture before your eyes without getting involved in repairs.

Option number 1. Screen painting of the walls

It will not be difficult for each of us to create a picture on the wall using stencils. This décor option is best suited for plain walls and walls with a repeating pattern. The stencil is very easy to make with your own hands. To do this, you need to draw an ornament on thick cardboard or simply print the downloaded pattern, cut it out with scissors and apply paint to the selected section of the wall with paint.

Option number 2. Art painting of the walls

This decoration option can completely transform the look of the room, but it requires the professional skills of the artist. We offer several photos with ideas for do-it-yourself wall decor.

Option number 3. Wall decoration with vinyl stickers

There is a huge range of vinyl wall decals for walls of all sizes on the market. These can be either small themed stickers that can decorate the wall and hide a small defect on it, or full-fledged patterns on the entire wall.

Option number 4. Decorating the walls with unique dishes

Such wall decor will bring a certain zest and rural charm to the interior of the kitchen. Painted plates brought from distant countries or left to you by your beloved grandmother will look very original on the contrasting color of the walls in the most visible place.

Option number 5. Wood wall decor

Wall decor with wood paneling is also a very popular option for interior design. The most convenient materials for this type of decoration are lining and laminate, which are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

Option number 6. Wall decoration with paintings

For lovers of beauty, as well as connoisseurs of painting, decorating the walls with paintings will be the easiest and most enjoyable way to update the design. The advantage of this decor is that over time, the paintings can be changed, inserted into a new frame or swapped.

Option number 7. How to decorate a wall with photos

An alternative idea is decorating walls with pictures. Before you decorate the wall with photographs, you need to correctly think over the composition. The presence of photographs on the wall will bring a special comfort to the interior of the room and will give warm memories.

Option number 8. Wall decoration with fabric paintings

This wall decor option is more suitable for people who love to sew. Before you start making a picture, you need to choose the right fabric and future pattern. They should match in color with other elements of the interior of the room, such as upholstery or curtains.

Option number 9. Patchwork technique

The patchwork technique (from the English patchwork - “a blanket, a bedspread, a product made of multi-colored patches”) involves decorating the walls in the style of a patchwork quilt. For wall decor in patchwork style, decorative wallpapers with different patterns, wall tiles, as well as cuts from different fabrics are perfect. The main task is to correctly think over the composition and compatibility of colors with the overall interior of the room.

Option number 10. Paper wall decor

The most original do-it-yourself wall decor can be done using paper applications. It can be either bold paper flowers or any other shapes.

But the most popular solution today is decorating butterflies on the wall with your own hands.

After a summer vacation or any sufficiently significant pleasant event in life, there are always a lot of photos. Most often, we hide them in an album or leave them in the computer's memory. And what if you hang your best photos on the wall in the living room or bedroom so that they bring back pleasant memories and create good mood even after months or even years? The question remains - how best to hang photos on the wall?

A frame, a nail, and a couple of hammer blows is all it takes to secure a photo frame to the wall. But what if we move away from the standards and show ingenuity? You can hang posters, paintings, children's drawings, heart-pleasing postcards, photographs and even beautiful booklets from the resort in the apartment without a frame. How? Let's tell now!

Hangers for trousers

This method is actively used by modern interior designers. An ordinary trouser hanger, consisting of a hook and a clip (metal or wooden), can withstand even a large and heavy canvas or a whole collage of photographs and bring a playful touch to interior design. Great idea for decorating children's rooms, teenagers' rooms or apartments in the popular art house style.

The hanger does not have to be hung on a regular nail on the wall. You can fix it on a high headboard or chair, cornice, closet door and even on a mirror, and also stretch a cord between two walls and hang a composition of several freely rotating hangers with your photos on it.

This method is unlikely to take root in a classic interior, but for youth experimental styles it is ideal! Most methods will allow you to recreate any arrangement of photos on the wall.

Clothespins

As planned, this method is similar to the previous one. Clothespins, preferably wooden, are well fixed under the nail head.

They can be attached to curtains and the same clothesline, simulating a room where photographers show their work. Also try pulling the rope horizontally along one of the walls - pull it hard to create straight lines or release the tension slightly so that you end up with something like a garland of photo cards (you can also adapt a New Year's garland with light bulbs).

You can also pull ropes, fishing line or ribbons for attaching photos with clothespins inside a large frame that can be easily removed and hung again, replacing the photos with new ones. Alternatively, you can use a paneled door for the same purpose.

Using this technique, you will get a whole photo gallery by creating two or more parallel rows on the wall. In this case, it is not necessary to pull the rope strictly horizontally - photos on a thread stretched at an angle or even intertwined like a web will look original.

Clips for curtains

Small curtain clips for string cornices can be used in the same way as ordinary clothespins. And if the string itself is, it is practically turnkey solution for using photos in the interior design of the apartment.

stationery stuff

And here there really is a place to roam in order to beautifully hang photos on the wall! Armed with ideas from marketing presentations and inspired by a typical office interior.
Such ideas are perfect for decorating home interiors with photos or arranging creative offices.

As you can see, all of the above methods of hanging photos and paintings on the walls are quite budgetary and do not even take much time and effort. So arm yourself with the desire for beauty - and go! And let your photos help you keep the freshness of your pleasant memories for a long time.
