Monitor and reset the ink meter

Most often, this function is activated when replacing or refilling cartridges in cases where the printer itself or the computer driver for some reason does not reset. In addition, zeroing the sensors helps to eliminate various ink-related errors (for example, the printer refuses to print, displaying a message on the screen that there is no ink, which, in fact, is filled in the cartridge).

Resetting the Absorbent Pad Fill Level

The design of all models of Epson Stylus printers has an absorbent pad (diaper), which is gradually filled with unused ink. If the diaper is 100% full, the printer firmware will block its operation. In this case, the only (and, as a rule, temporary) way out of the situation is to reset the sensor responsible for monitoring the fullness of the absorbent pad.

Freeze cartridge counters

In fact, this function simply disables the ink level sensors. This saves the user from having to reset the sensors after the next refill/replacement of cartridges. However, freezing the readings of the sensors will require the user to monitor the ink levels themselves, otherwise the idle operation of the print head may disrupt the operation of the printer as a whole.

Print head maintenance

The SSC Service Utility program is able to directly interact with the Epson Stylus printer driver installed on the computer, which allows you to perform basic printer maintenance tasks:

Cleaning the print head in various modes (depending on the design features of the printer): regular cleaning, enhanced cleaning, and others.
Cleaning the channels (nozzles) for supplying black and / or color ink.
Soft (soft) reset of the printer, resulting in the settings saved by the user return to the factory settings.

The main window consists of three tabs: "Ink Monitor", "Settings" and "Resetter".

When you start the program, the "Ink Monitor" tab is immediately activated. It displays more detailed percentage information about the level of inkjet ink in each cartridge.

In the "Settings" tab, you are prompted to select your installed inkjet printer (if you have several printers installed in Windows). In addition, there is an option to enable/disable the custom ink monitor and have the SSC Service Utility run automatically when Windows starts.

Finally, "Resetter" is a programmer. If, on the one hand, you are unable to reset the chips using the SSC Service Utility (see below), and, on the other hand, you do not want to use the "freeze" (see below), then in the "Help" menu (see. further) there is a programmer diagram and a list of the necessary radio components. Radio amateurs can easily assemble this circuit. Its cost will be approximately 30-50 rubles. Then this programmer needs to be connected to the computer, open the main window of the SSC Service Utility and follow the instructions.

The main features of the SSC Service Utility are not presented in the main program window. To get to them, you need to close the program window, after which the program icon in the form of a printer will appear on the taskbar (in the lower right corner of the monitor screen, next to the clock). Move the mouse cursor over this icon and open the context menu. Only then will the main menu of the program appear.

"Reset counters"
This feature allows you to reset the ink counter of a cartridge. Re-flashing cartridge chips can be done as a single cartridge, or all colors at once. In this case, the cartridges are in the printer, i.e. flashing chips goes without the use of external devices, such as programmers. Please note that this feature of the SSC Service Utility does not work with all Epson printer models.
"Change Cartridge"
This feature allows you to replace an Epson ink cartridge bypassing the standard cartridge replacement procedure. This is necessary so that when replacing the cartridge, the printer does not flush the print head each time, and thus it would be possible to save ink on such flushes.
All replacement of an inkjet cartridge occurs, as usual, as standard, but only under the control of the SSC Service Utility. In this case, three commands are available to you: "Move to the replacement position", "To the parking position" and "Park the head safely". It is in this order that you need to change the cartridge under the control of the SSC Service Utility.
"Workout counter"
When cleaning the jet nozzles of the Epson printer, the waste ink accumulates in a special felt pan ("diaper"). From time to time, the Epson printer refuses to print and asks you to contact the service center to service some parts of the printer. The service center resets the waste ink counter and replaces the diaper. For all this you have to pay money.
You can reset the waste ink counter to zero to continue working when your inkjet printer refuses to print and asks you to contact the service center to replace some printer parts. However, remember that you cannot permanently reset this counter without changing the diaper (or pumping ink out of it). Sooner or later, the diaper will overflow and ink will begin to flow out of it.
To finally get rid of the paid services of the service center for this problem, you must either take the diaper out of the printer every time and dry it or make a permanent drain of ink from the diaper.
"Head cleaning"
You can start cleaning the print head in both the standard way (using the Epson driver) and the non-standard way. With a non-standard method, you can clean only the nozzles of one color, and thereby save ink on cleaning. If the usual cleaning does not help, then there is an opportunity to do an enhanced cleaning.
"Freeze"
Allows you to "freeze" the virtual amount of ink in the cartridges. The printer will constantly see the same amount of ink as before the "freeze". This feature works even for printers that do not have the "Reset Counters" feature. Freezing can be done either manually or automatically. Also, the freezing process can be reversed.
