Laser cutting of a sheet. Cut the metal. Figured laser cutting

Laser cutting is one of the most popular methods of exposure to organic glass and metal.

This cutting gained popularity due to the jewelry accuracy of the resulting shapes and details, as well as their high quality, which makes it impossible for the appearance of roughness, chips, irregularities formed during conventional machining. In this case, there is no need for subsequent additional processing of the received products.

Laser cutting helps to achieve excellence in creating new shapes, making intricate patterns. This view cutting is widely used in mechanical engineering, allowing you to quickly produce parts without resorting to a complex and lengthy milling process, in the manufacture of home decor elements, body parts for bank terminals, payment systems. It is most often used in production where cutting accuracy is of great importance down to every millimeter.

How can laser cutting of sheet metal in Moscow save you time and money? The fact is that at a low cost, this method has a high processing speed of the material. This speed is provided by a powerful laser beam. The laser allows you to cut metal with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. The result is high productivity and low material consumption.

Metal laser cutting technology consists in the fact that a laser beam heats up and burns through the metal. However, the temperature effect on the material itself is minimal, which makes it possible not to deform the metal.

Compared to other metal processing methods (stamping, machining, plasma cutting), the laser shows greater accuracy and less waste of material.

Laser cutting of metal is suitable for processing carbon steel, aluminum, and some alloys. In addition, this method can be used on non-rigid and easily deformable parts. The thermophysical properties of the material do not matter, since the laser beam is focused at one point.

Laser cutting metal perforation

Recently, perforated laser cutting has been in great demand in Moscow. This method of metal processing is carried out for both decorative and practical purposes. So, perforation of sheets lightens the weight of metal structures. Sometimes perforation is necessary for assembling parts or ventilating an assembly. Laser cutting metal perforation is required in the manufacture of radiator grilles, electrical cabinets, air ducts, etc.

Decorative perforation allows you to create real masterpieces of metal. For example, in this way you can make art panels or decorate the metal fence of the site. You can order these services of laser cutting of metal in our company.

What determines the cost of laser cutting metal?

Laser cutting of metal has another important advantage - affordable cost. RamMetPro offers laser cutting services for metal sheets made of steel, aluminum and alloys. The cost of work depends on the thickness of the steel, the length of the cutting contour and the volume of the order.

Modern metal processing technology, which uses CNC equipment, is called laser metal cutting. This method is highly accurate. It is used for workpieces with a thickness of 2-30 mm. After processing with a powerful laser, surfaces are obtained that do not require finishing.

SteelMetal offers laser cutting services at a favorable cost. We work with both large and single orders.

Technology features

The principle of operation of the laser is as follows: the area on which the beam is directed is heated to the melting point, as a result of which the material begins to melt and the phase boundary shifts inward. At the same time, the temperature does not cease to rise, so the second stage begins - evaporation. After such processing, it is possible to obtain a perfectly flat edge, without deformations. No need to clean the weld or other finishing work to give the product its final shape.

The advantages of cutting metal with a laser

This method has a wide range of advantages. Among them:

  • Maximum precision in machining parts of any shape, including three-dimensional and flat, as well as non-rigid and slightly deformable workpieces.
  • Versatility. The technology is used for almost any rolled metal product.
  • Gentle effect on metal. The method is unique in that it does not apply current to the workpiece. Also, when using it, there is no mechanical effect, therefore, using a laser, you can cut other materials that are fragile and small in thickness - wood, leather, rubber, plywood, plexiglass, and so on.
  • Ease of use. Laser cutting of metal is performed automatically. To cut the workpiece as the customer requires, it is only necessary to have a drawing of the finished product, which is transferred to the computer system of the CNC machine.
  • Optimization production processes... The operation of the laser machine can be set to auto mode, which will reduce labor costs without compromising quality finished products... The volume of waste when using this technology is minimized.
  • Wide range of applications. Using laser cutting of metal, you can even create a decorative design of the workpiece: patterns, engravings, and more.

This method is optimal for those customers who are interested in high speed manufacture of metal products without the need for their subsequent processing.

Technology application

Laser cutting of metal is used in the manufacture of various products. The method is used in instrumentation, aircraft construction, automobile manufacturing, and the medical field. With its help they make:

  • auto parts;
  • structural elements of shelving;

Cutting out sheet and other profile rolled products is one of the most important operations in the creation of metal structures.

It is this operation that largely determines the quality of the product and its cost. For all the time, many technologies have been invented and put into operation, which are used for cutting sheet and other profiles.

The essence of metal cutting

Cutting metal, regardless of its shape, is a procurement operation. It is at the stage of its implementation that the future details of the metal structure take on features. On the machine-building enterprises, and in the production complexes of other industries, there are entire procurement divisions equipped with a variety of equipment designed to form blanks, or even finished parts. It all depends on the equipment and tools used.

The term metal cutting can be interpreted as follows - it is a method of placing blanks on a sheet. The shape can be in the form of a rectangle or any other. When cutting metal, a certain amount of returnable and non-returnable waste appears. Their volume is directly dependent on the technology used for cutting.

Types of waste when cutting metals

Waste from procurement operations can be divided into two classes:

  • technological;
  • cutting.

The first type of waste includes the metal that is lost due to technological processing. For example, when using gas cutting, this is flashing, in the form of chips removed from the surface of the workpiece during turning or milling. Waste includes that part of the metal that will no longer be used in the future.

Waste from sheet metal cutting can include those residues that are formed by the shape of the workpiece and the lack of multiplicity when marking the cutting. The first is understood as that part of the metal that is located between the outer contour of one or more blanks and a certain contour that outlines the dimensions of the blanks. The second ones are those that are formed when comparing the dimensions of the sheet and cutting the blanks. This waste appears when the dimensions of the sheet do not coincide with the sum of the dimensions of the blanks located along its sides.

The main methods of cutting metal

Manufacturers, in order to optimally cut the material and minimize the volume of waste, strive to choose the best way to cut sheet material or rolled products based on the technologies used for cutting metal into blanks. For example, when using circular shears or gas cutter, it is permissible to arrange blanks anywhere on the sheet. While, when cutting with guillotine shears, certain restrictions must be followed. The workpiece must be positioned in such a way that it was possible to realize straight cuts along or across the sheet and straight cuts at an angle.

If it is necessary to process a large batch of blanks, it makes sense to use a combined method. It consists in the fact that blanks with different shapes are placed in a rectangle with minimized dimensions. These rectangles are then used to better fill the sheet. Formation of a dimensional sequence. By moving these shapes over the surface, an improved configuration shape is obtained.

The method of better filling the short side of the sheet - this allows you to reduce the amount of waste caused by lack of fold. The remaining part of the leaf will be slightly shorter than along the long side. The blanks should be selected in such a way that they are sized to optimally fill the smaller side of the sheet. For marking along the side length, perform a similar job.

The essence of the method for forming dimensional sequences is as follows - blanks are placed on a sheet from large to small.

Based on the work performed, a cutting map is drawn up. Then, the required amount of materials (sheet or other rolled products) is determined. By the way, this is the main document that should be at the workplace of the operator of the blanking machine.

Templates of blanks are prepared from thick paper or cardboard, which must be cut out. The templates are placed on a sheet and by moving and combining them with each other, an optimal cutting of the sheet material is obtained.

The history of this equipment, according to official data, dates back to the time of the French Revolution. At that time it was used to eliminate "enemies of the people" and only many years later, it found another application, namely, in cutting sheet metal. With the use of some devices on the guillotine (mechanical shears), you can cut rolled steel, reinforcement.

The sheet is cut in a series of operations.

  1. The sheet is placed on the work table. A ruler is installed on the rear side of the machine, on which the size of the workpiece to be cut is set.
  2. After the sheet is set, the machine operator starts it. The front plate presses the sheet against the table surface, into the second one, on which the knives are installed, then it goes down and, under its own weight, cuts the sheet into the set size.

It should be noted that if the knives are properly sharpened and installed with a minimum error, then the cut is obtained without burrs and jams. At the same time, curvature will not occur on the sheet, since the cut occurs over the entire length of the sheet at the same time.

Equipment of this class is equipped with electric motors. For some brands, for example, H177, the front and rear plates are moved using a mechanism, the basis of which is a fairly overall flywheel. On such machines it is permissible to cut sheets up to 12-14 mm, of course, the thickness depends on the properties and grade of the material.

There are machines of this class, in which the plates are moved using a hydraulic mechanism. But unlike mechanical devices, they require careful treatment, constant control over the level and condition of oil, etc. On such machines it is permissible to cut materials up to 30 mm thick.

Modern guillotine shears are equipped with a digital sizing technique, the ability to adjust the cutting force and other options. There are also machines equipped with numerical control systems. Equipment of this class, performs cutting of metal with minimal errors.

To create products from tin (galvanized metal), hand scissors are used. Depending on the design, they can be used to cut sheet metal with a width of two or more meters with a thickness of up to 20 mm.

There is another type of guillotine - saber. They are also used in artisan workshops or small businesses.

By the way, guillotine-type scissors have found their application not only in the manufacture of metal structures, but also in printing, with their help they cut large stacks of paper.

Metal cutting with band and circular saws

For cutting metal, a tool such as circular saws is also used. This tool is used to machine large workpieces. It should be noted that when working with such a tool, a fairly large amount of physical strength is required. The working body of this tool is a disc made of tool steel.

This tool is most effective when working with steel and other materials, including non-ferrous metals and alloys. Most often, this metal processing method is chosen for processing sheet material, pipes. The cut is made straight, but, possibly, its execution at a given angle.

The disc tool is characterized by high productivity, safety and easy operation when cutting complex workpieces. For a long time now this tool has been widely popular both among manufacturers and among home craftsmen. This is due, among other things, to its availability. There are many models of circular saws on the market, including stationary ones, and everyone can purchase them.

Another, no less popular, cutting method is the processing of blanks on a band saw. The working body of this equipment is a band saw, which works like a regular hacksaw. The band saw blade is closed in a ring and has a long length. That is, in fact, a band saw is a ring with teeth on one edge. For the production of a band saw, carbon steel alloys are used, but there are also bimetallic models.

The band saw kit includes two pulleys that rotate from an electrical power unit.

Machines of this class represent a lot of possibilities when processing bars, shaped profiles, pipes. On machines of some brands, it is permissible to perform not only straight cuts, but also curly cuts.

There are a variety of models on the market, ranging from manually operated single-column machines to gantry machines operated by a computer.

Punching presses

The main purpose of this equipment is to cut metal blanks. Presses of this class are distinguished by their high working accuracy and a wide range of punched holes.

Punching presses are used for the production of perforated sheets. The limiting dimensions of the processed sheets depend on the brand of the machine used.

The design of punching presses ensures high productivity of finished products.

Oxy-fuel cutting

The most economical methods of cutting metal include oxy-fuel cutting.

To ensure the cut of the metal, a mixture of oxygen and combustible gas (propane, acetylene, etc.) is used.

The cutting sequence consists of the following steps:

  1. An open flame heats the metal to the ignition temperature.
  2. After that, a stream of oxygen is supplied to the heated place, oxidizing the metal.
  3. Moving the cutter creates a narrow cut, from which it is necessary to remove slag.

Cut quality is directly related to the grade of the material, surface quality, metal thickness, cutting speed.

This technology allows cutting low-alloy steels with a profile thickness of up to several tens of centimeters.

Despite the fact that new technologies for cutting metal are constantly emerging, flame cutting remains the most economical.

Moreover, with a metal thickness of 900 mm, there is no alternative to this technology.

Plasma cutting of metal

To understand how the installation of a plasma cut metal works, it will be necessary to remember what plasma is - it is an ionized gas that forms neutral molecules and charged particles.

Plasma is generated when the gas is heated to ultra-high temperatures, while its ionization occurs. Due to the movement of gas molecules, it has a certain conductivity.

Plasma cutting of metal is one of the methods for cutting metal blanks. In this case, a plasma beam acts as a working body.

Principle of operation, technology and equipment for plasma cutting of metal

An electric arc is activated between the electrode and the nozzle. Gas passes through the nozzle - oxygen or air; its working pressure is 5 - 8 atm. When gas and electric arc contact, it heats up to a temperature of up to 30,000 ° C. Thus, the gas jet is transformed into a plasma beam. Which also performs the function of cutting.

A distinctive feature of this metal cutting method is that the metal does not burn out, as, for example, during gas cutting, but simply evaporates and this requires additional measures to protect personnel and the environment.

In practice, two types of equipment are used for plasma-air cutting of metal - manual and automated. At the first stage, metal cutting operations are performed without the use of any automation equipment, and at first glance, it resembles a flame cutting method.

The automated equipment operates under the control of the CNC system and all the work of the operator is to the right time turn on the control program.

The machine itself is a gantry installation moving, for example, along the X-axis and a cutting head that moves along the Y-axis. Thus, metal cutting can start from any point in the sheet, with a cutting accuracy of 0.2 mm.

Unlike machines for mechanical cutting of workpieces, sheet cutting takes place using special software systems. Their use minimizes the amount of waste. On some forms, the amount of waste may not exceed 1 - 5% of the sheet area.

Plasma-air cutting of metal blanks guarantees the receipt of parts in strict accordance with the requirements of the working documentation.

The disadvantages of plasma cutting equipment include the following:

  1. As the thickness of the metal increases, a slope appears from the outer edge to the inner part of the sheet, this is caused by the scattering of the plasma beam, this must be taken into account when marking the metal sheet.
  2. Incorrect setting of cutting conditions - current, air (gas) consumption, working speed of the head movement, can lead to an increase in the amount of applied consumable - nozzles, electrodes.
  3. The installation of such equipment requires careful air preparation, that is, it is necessary to install moisture trapping devices directly in front of it.
  4. During work, nodules form at the cut site, which, if necessary, can be removed using an angle grinder. In general, if the workpiece is made for welding, these beads can be ignored.

There are designs with two or more moving cutting heads. This design raises labor productivity and reduces the cost of workpieces.

It should be noted that the cost of a workpiece obtained using plasma cutting equipment is lower than that of obtaining an identical part using mechanical equipment.

The concept of laser cutting metal

Laser cutting of metal is also considered to be no less progressive. This technology uses the power of a laser beam and, as a rule, it is used in the mass production of products from almost any material, including non-metals.

The laser beam, which is controlled by a special software package, provides a concentration of energy sufficient for cutting materials of any thickness and composition.

During the cut, the material exposed to the laser beam is melted, vaporized or blown out by the compressed air stream.

Cutting with a laser differs in that no mechanical effect is exerted on the material and only minimal deformation phenomena can occur during processing. The absence of any mechanical stress allows the processing of easily deformable or thin materials, for example, blanks for the ventilation system, where the metal thickness can be only 0.5 - 0.7 mm.

Software control of cutting metal with a laser allows you to perform work on obtaining complex contours.

By the way, in recent years, technological equipment has been developed and introduced, which allows you to cut pipes, profiles, etc.

Depending on the tasks to be solved in the manufacture of blanks, in various areas of industrial production, metal cutting can be performed with varying degrees of accuracy. Hundredths of a millimeter required in precision engineering, automotive and aviation are not required for construction with tolerances of 1mm or more.

But in any case, accurate cutting of the metal will reduce the labor intensity of manufacturing, since the operations for finishing by milling are no longer needed.

Plasma cutting device consists of:

  • Plasmatron converting the energy of the electric arc into thermal energy of the plasma;
  • Power supply;
  • Compressor or gas cylinder to provide a stream of gas or air mixture

Plasma cutting requires high qualifications, it is quite difficult to ensure a constant gap between the nozzle and the surface of the sheet, uneven movement of the torch can also lead to sagging at the edges and the appearance of dross.

Laser cutting of sheet metal

It is provided by focused radiation with a concentration of thermal energy in the cutting area. The result is high-precision, thin cuts that allow you to laser cut many parts with minimal gaps between the markings. The cutting process is robotic. The laser performs complex movements in accordance with an electronic drawing embedded in the software control without the slightest deviation along the contour.

The advantages of laser cutting include:

  • Reproduction of closed curved contours of any complexity;
  • Saving material due to the dense arrangement of parts on the sheet and programmed cutting with a minimum probability of error;
  • Lack of mechanical and prolonged thermal exposure, the edges of the parts are not deformed, there are no tarnish colors;
  • Perpendicular edge, low surface roughness.

Negative parameters are:

  • The maximum possible cutting thickness is 20mm;
  • Decreased productivity when cutting highly reflective metal such as polished stainless steel, reducing laser power.

Laser cutting of sheet steel is widely used in the manufacture of parts with maximum requirements for geometric accuracy and repeatability, in the automotive industry, precision instrumentation, as well as for the creation of exclusive decorative elements, carved gratings and holders.

Plasma and laser cutting of sheet metal has recently become relatively widespread, any developments, specific skills, experience and just theoretical considerations would be interesting to discuss together. We hope to see your opinion in the comments.
