Light sensitivity and infrared illumination

Light sensitivity characterizes the minimum illumination at which the camera is able to perform the functions assigned to it. The value of the parameter, depending on the type of matrix, is 0.01–1 lux.

Its practical value is low. The camera, as a rule, does not work in complete darkness, since when the gear is engaged, the reverse lamp lights up, providing more illumination than the most “dumb” camera needs. Viewing angle and dynamic layout

Wired connection

The camera is supplied with 12 V from the reversing lamp. The signal wire P3 is also connected to it. The camera output is connected to the video input, the P3 wire is connected to the same wire (connector) of the monitor.

According to the same scheme, any display devices with a signal input are connected: radio, navigators, registrars.

Wireless connection

Wireless receivers and transmitters usually don't have a signal wire. This does not prevent them from being used to transmit an image to a separate monitor or other device without a signal input.

In the case of using such kits to connect the camera to the radio, navigator and other devices with a signal input, you have to lay an additional wire from the reversing lamp or, according to the electrical equipment diagram, look for another accessible connection point located closer to the radio.

One of the possible control options is a switch connected to the power plus, with the help of which the signal is forced.

Force camera on

Sometimes the driver needs to turn on the parking camera without engaging reverse gear. Such an algorithm is implemented by supplying power to the camera not through the reversing light, but directly using a button or toggle switch.

Usually at the same time they refuse the possibility of turning on the camera at the same time as reversing. But if you connect the button and the lamp through decoupling diodes, both functions can be used in parallel.

The Wi-Fi module allows you to transfer the image from the rear or front view camera to any device with the Android or iOS operating system. In this case, you will need to download the appropriate application to your tablet or smartphone.

How to install a wired camera and connect to the car radio

To equip a car with a wired rear-view parking camera, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • a set of keys,
  • screwdrivers,
  • panel puller,
  • insulating tape,

  • wires and connectors

Sequence of work

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal (case) from the battery.
  2. Determine the location of the camera according to the criteria for maximum visibility of the space behind the car and the secrecy of the device from prying eyes.
  3. Consider how to lay the wire from the reversing lamp and the video cable to the radio tape recorder to the selected camera mounting location. If possible, choose the places where the wires are connected in the connectors, avoiding splices. Determine the laying route near the remaining on-board wiring harnesses, focusing on the minimum labor costs for dismantling and restoring the interior and trunk trim.
  4. Route the video cable and wires along the intended route without securing or laying under the casing.
  5. Free access to the radio and rear light connectors.
  6. Assemble the wiring diagram for connecting the camera to the radio.
  7. Connect the battery, check the operation of the circuit by the presence of a picture from the camera on the monitor. Eliminate deficiencies that interfere with normal operation. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  8. Drill a hole if necessary and install the camera.
  9. Loosen the fasteners or completely remove the sheathing elements that interfere with the laying of wires.
  10. Lay the wires under the casing.
  11. Repair circuit connections broken during wiring.
  12. Check the operation of the camera according to the picture on the monitor, without fixing the wires and casing.
  13. If there are no defects, disconnect the battery from the case, fix the wires and restore the casing.

Checking and adjusting the parking camera

  1. Engage power and reverse gear. A mirror image of the objects behind the car and the dynamic marking line should appear on the monitor screen.
  2. If there is no picture, check the reliability of the contacts and the condition of the wires. Special attention pay attention to the quality of crimping pins of connectors and other connections.
  3. Check the switching on and off of the picture depending on the position of the gear lever.
  4. If there is no mirroring or markup, read the manufacturer's instructions and enable the options.

Connecting the power supply of the rear view camera is an important and much more laborious process than it might seem at first glance. Improper power supply can lead to damage to the device itself, damage to the wiring of the car, incorrect operation of the camera, or poor or unstable picture quality.

Primarily, "+" and "-" of all connected devices must be taken from the same place. This is an axiom and a cornerstone of connecting electronics in a car.

Secondly, study the logic of the installed equipment. As a result, the connected camera should not stand out from the overall picture. What does this mean in practice:

If, according to the logic of the already installed equipment, all electronics turn on at the moment power is supplied to the head unit / monitor, then the camera must be connected accordingly. In many cars, the standard reverse camera (even if it is not available) is designed to turn on at the same time as the car's ignition is turned on. This approach provides an already warmed-up matrix and excellent image quality, especially at night, and also, in some cars, activates the video input for the camera.

  • If the rear view camera (note, not the image from the camera, but the camera) is activated when reverse gear is engaged, you can connect power to the reverse headlights.   • Camera activation. When a rear view camera is connected via a video interface, activation, depending on the vehicle, occurs via the CAN bus or by supplying +12 V from the reverse headlights. Therefore, when connecting a video interface, you must go to the engineering menu (Factory menu) and configure the activation method (CAN bus or Rear wire).
  • Monitor Definition. When connecting a video interface, it is necessary to correctly determine the diagonal / resolution / type (in some cases) / monitor manufacturer (in some cases) and set the DIP switches accordingly.
  • Definition of stock/non-standard camera. When connecting a video interface, you must correctly set the position of the DIP switch, which is responsible for determining which camera the picture should be displayed from. That is, if you connect an aftermarket rear view camera, the video interface must identify this camera and activate the image when reverse gear is engaged. If a standard camera is already installed in the car, and you use the video interface to connect navigation or video devices, then set the DIP switch to the appropriate position.   • Determining the color system. Before buying a camera, find out which video signal standard your car supports (PAL or NTSC). The standard of the camera and the car must match. Many believe that the video interface somehow adjusts the signal to the desired standard. However, this is misleading. The video interface passes the signal as is. If you still bought a camera with a different signal standard, use the converter.

Typical mistakes when connecting a rear view camera

  • Meals taken from different places. In most cases, "+" is taken from the reverse lamp, and "-" from the body. We strongly, strongly ask you not to do this, we even insist. In such cases, a phenomenon such as a potential difference arises, and at different points the voltage may differ and constantly change. This phenomenon affects the operation of the electronics of the connected devices and leads to destabilization and poor or unstable picture quality. ALWAYS take plus and minus from the same place!!! For example, from a monitor or head unit.
  • Power connected to pulse signal from the rear lights. In many cars, especially German ones, the signal on the reversing lights is pulsating. This is done specifically to diagnose the performance of the bulb in the headlights. So, if you have just such a signal, you need to align it and put a filter, which, in turn, must be separated from the system by an LED. If you put a capacitor to smooth the signal, but do not separate it from the standard system, then an already smoothed signal will go to the reversing lamp, and the on-board computer (the unit that processes this lamp) will receive incorrect data.   • Connecting the camera according to the principle permanent job without using a voltage converter. Then there is a very high probability that your camera will simply burn out. And by the way, this happens repeatedly.

What to do if the installed camera does not work or is unstable?

  • First, never install a camera without first checking it. This will save you and your clients a lot of time and nerves. We test the devices we sell, but the camera may be damaged, for example, during delivery or under other circumstances. Therefore, first make the connection "on weight". If everything works, feel free to install.
  • Check the connection cable. The supplied cable is usually 3 to 5 meters long. Accordingly, when laying it, it can bend or break. This is a fairly common occurrence.
  • Check if the power connection is correct
    • Are plus and minus taken from the same place

  • If when connecting the camera via the video interface If the image is not displayed or the image quality is poor, check the camera activation settings in the Factory menu and check that the DIP switch settings are correct.
  • If the image is distorted or a black-and-white picture is displayed instead of an image, or no picture is displayed at all, most likely the video signal standards of the rear view camera and the car's multimedia system do not match. I think that now the further course of events has become clear to you. We take the wires from the camera and carefully pass them through the mounting frame of the number. Then we launch them into these holes, and then we put them into the trunk through the plug:

I repeat once again that there is no need to disassemble anything in the cabin at all. Just remove the sealing gum and that's it. And already in the bow, you need to remove the front pillar trim to run a wire under it:

Once again, it is worth saying that you need to be careful when removing the skin, since it is mounted on a kind of shock absorber, which does not allow it to be completely removed.

Therefore, carefully pull at a 90 degree angle only its uppermost part:

  1. KZV with the help of self-tapping screws is fixed on top of the license plate, next to the backlight.
  2. A cable is passed through the hole in the light bulb into the interior of the car.
  3. The wire for powering the KZV is connected to a cable that supplies current to the lantern.
  4. The ground wire is connected to the car body in a place convenient for the driver.
  5. Check the reliability of the insulating elements and the quality of fastening.

For reference! The operation of the KZV is carried out only for its intended purpose, that is, it works when the reverse gear is engaged.

Method 2

The second way is wireless and simpler:

  1. Fasten the CZV above the license plate.
  2. Connect your device to a wireless transmitter that can be placed anywhere, even in the trunk of a car.
  3. The transmitter has two wires, one of which is ground, is attached to the car body, and the second is to the rear light batteries.

With a certain skill, it is not difficult to do it yourself. Taking into account the fact that the KZV costs about 3000-3500 rubles, a specialist in the service will take 5000-5500 rubles for such work, and this is unprofitable. One has only to take into account an important point: when choosing a wired connection of the camera to the navigator, when starting the engine, interference may appear on the display that interfere with the view. In this case, you need to add a relay device to the circuit, for example, from wipers or a fan, and the problem will be fixed.

There is also such a device as a rear-view mirror with a monitor, but it costs several orders of magnitude more expensive, and it is better to entrust its connection to specialists.

But connecting via USB is considered a wireless method, but here a slightly different scheme, since the device is used to communicate with a computer or tablet. There was a question of installation. I didn’t think of any other place than above the license plate. The question arose, how to run a cable with connectors from the camera to the trunk?

The license plate, its mounting frame, the left license plate light, and the lining of the rear trunk wall were removed. There I found such a hole closed with a rubber plug:

I passed a stranded wire with a cross section of 2.5 sq. mm into it:

I caught it in the hole of the removed license plate light, wrapped the video cable and the power wire of the rear view camera with blue electrical tape, and then pulled it all into the passenger compartment.

I screwed the camera on 2 self-tapping screws that came with the camera. Thanks to the elongated mounting holes in the base of the camera, after installation, it was possible to adjust it by first loosening the screws a little.

Where to power the camera? It was most logical to do this to the wires going to the reversing light. So I did. I just didn’t wedge into the wiring going to the fifth door, but used a wire that went to an unidentified brown connector near the place where the standard parking sensors computer was attached. It's under the carpet on the left. In the same place, a little lower, there is a place for a regular attachment of the “mass”.

The video cable from the camera connector was passed on the left under the carpet covering the bottom of the trunk, then under the seat, under the plastic lining of the thresholds on the left side of the cabin ...

In the end, I brought it to the rack on the driver's side. There I fixed it together with the standard wiring:

Further, behind the ceiling sheathing, the cable is led to the wiring coming from behind the salon mirror. We remove the plafond of the navigational light. To do this, pull its front part back and down. There are three wires going to the dome. Plus ACC, minus ACC, minus igniting the ceiling when you open the doors. On the minus ACC (black wire) we connect the black wire of the monitor's power, on the plus of the ACC (red - white wire) we connect the red wire of the monitor's power.

I haven't fully decided on the place where the monitor should be installed, so I decided to try it behind the navigator's light.

The monitor is upside down. There were 2 ways to flip the picture: flip the camera or flip the display. Flipping the camera was easier. It intentionally has 2 mounts, but! Monica has 2 inputs and if in the future a second input is needed, then the picture from it will be upside down. As a result, the monitor display was turned upside down.

Since fastening temporary upholstery decided not to damage. The monitor has a steel bottom and I fixed it with the help of ... A magnet from an old computer hard drive. Here is this:

To avoid turning and sliding of the monitor base along the textile upholstery of the ceiling, I glued two strips of Velcro to the bottom of the monitor base, or rather the part of it, the pile on which is more rigid.

I'm done with the assembly. The time has come for testing. Installed an "obstacle" behind the car.

For docking with standard wiring, U-shaped terminals were used at a price of 8 rubles apiece (3 pieces in total), for other connections, Wago 222 series terminals (2-pin, 2 pieces).

During these tests, I realized that the installation of a rear-view camera was perhaps the most requested refinement of the car.

But, unfortunately, it gets dirty very quickly, which greatly complicates its use. For myself, I considered two options for getting out of the situation: make the camera open or equip it with a washer. The second way seemed easier to me, and I began to “smoke” forums in search of ideas.

After a long reading of the experience of colleagues (by the way, the owners of Renault in general and Megans in particular rarely embody such a refinement), I formed a “gentleman's set” of spare parts:

Rear window washer jet VAZ-2104. Price 15 rubles:

A washer system tee from some kind of GAS. 5 rub.4

Solenoid valve from VAZ 2108. 204 rubles:

The washer tube is rubber. 1.5 m. 50 rub. per metre. The tube was not enough, literally, 15 cm. I had to purchase a coil (2.4 m) of tubes for the aquarium at the nearest pet store. Its price is 94 rubles.

First of all, I assembled a layout on a piece of plastic.

At home, having connected to an ordinary tap, I picked up the approximate distance and relative position of the camera and the washer jet. This was the layout:

Next, I removed the shelf above the trunk, its holders. Snapped off the back of the upper right plastic lining. I felt for the tube going to the rear window washer, and pulled it out. In the section of the tube, I found a regular pressure limiter. What made the manufacturer put this device instead of the check valve is not clear.

Firstly, while the pump pumps water from under the hood to the rear window, the janitor manages to make 2-3 strokes on the dirty glass, scratching it. Secondly, the water pressure is not too strong to limit it. In stock, this product looks like this:

We drill a hole with a drill 8 to the right of the left number plate light. We put a hose in it. We start it in the trunk in the same way as I started the wires of the rear view camera .:

He emerged from me in this place. The turquoise tube is the hose from the aquarium.
Next, we assemble the following structure:

The black and white plastic part in the upper left corner is a valve from Toyota. It prevents the washer fluid from flowing back into the reservoir and at the same time does not limit its pressure. After pressing the lever, the liquid is now supplied to the glass instantly, thereby avoiding the sweeping of the wipers on the dirty glass.

Disconnect the hose from the lower fitting of the pressure limiter. Insert the check valve fitting into the tube coming from the pump. He is on the top left in the previous photo. And we put the hose after the tee on a regular pressure limiter.

It turns out something like this.

We crimp two wires into the terminals and connect them in parallel with the power supply of the rear view camera. This is done so that the valve opens only when reverse gear is engaged. When the reverse gear is off, the valve is closed and all the pressure goes to the rear window. Secured the structure with plastic clamps:

We insert the jet into the tube sticking out of the bumper and glue it to the bumper. I used "Contact-Gel" glue. This is how it looks:

To properly position the camera relative to the jet, I had to lower the number frame by about 3 cm. View with the number:

Having made this revision, I used it for six months. Satisfied with the result. Such a washer cannot cope with stable dried mud, but with liquid muck, which is abundantly present on our roads, it fights with “Hurrah!”
If you use it daily, then the dirt does not have time to accumulate and the washer copes without the participation of a rag.
