What formats are read on android. Which video file formats are better than others? e-book formats for readers

The popularity of paper books is gradually declining. This is not due to the fact that modern people began to read less. It’s just that paper editions are quite expensive, and besides, you need to allocate a separate place in the house for their storage.

Another thing is e-books. They can be downloaded to any electronic device, such as a computer, smartphone, reader, tablet. They do not take up much space, so you can literally create a library of your favorite books on your phone.

Formats e-books are different. It is important to know which one is right for your gadget. And in what format it is better to download books for a particular device, we will analyze in this article.

e-book formats for readers

Readers are special devices for reading electronic books. They are convenient, portable, and a special screen will not let your eyes get tired even during long reading. These devices are both convenient and safe. In one place, you can create a huge library.

Let's look at some types of readers:

  • choice of book format for kindle small, since the Amazon manufacturer itself (Amazon) created its own e-book format for its reader. But Kindle reads fine and txt;
  • reader paper white- This is also a gadget from the manufacturer Amazon. Accordingly, the format will fit txt;
  • formats for e-books PocketBook Literally any fit. It reads epub, rtf, txt, fb2 perfectly.

iBooks is a program for Apple gadgets. The choice of book formats for iBooks does not please with variety. iBooks only reads epub.

Phone e-book formats

Today, almost no one uses ordinary phones with buttons, mostly they are convenient and multifunctional smartphones, the capabilities of which are literally equated to computers.

  • android. In what format do you need to download books on Android? We advise you to choose the fb2 format, as it is suitable for any program. But there is another suitable one - txt;
  • iOS. Which book format for iPhone is a priority? iPhone supports epub format. In some cases, fb2 will do just fine.

In what format can I download the book to my computer?

On PC and laptop, email formats books are reproduced differently. Txt, for example, is not very convenient due to its kind of text. You still have to find an application for playing books and choose the format for it.

What format of e-books does Windows XP read? fb2 will do the job just fine, but others will do the job. Again, depending on which reading program you choose.

If you are the owner of a MacBook, then everything is simple here - the format is the same as for other Apple devices, that is, epub.

e-book formats for tablets

A tablet is a convenient and multifunctional gadget. It is more powerful and larger than a phone, and therefore it has more possibilities. In addition, reading books on the big screen is even more convenient. But it is smaller than a computer or laptop, so you can carry it everywhere with you.

To answer the question in what format to download books to a tablet, again, you need to know what OS it is on. If this is Android, then, as in the case of a phone, two file options will do - fb2 and txt.

The choice of book format for iPad is small due to the specifics of the OS. For iPad the best option will be epub. It is versatile and practical.

Many iPhone owners are interested in the question of what book formats support iOS gadgets. The fact is that the App Store contains many programs for reading, and any book in them can be opened without difficulty. The main thing is that the format of books for the iPhone is suitable.

However, most of these programs are either paid or very inconvenient to use. And not everyone knows that it is not necessary to use them at all. The solution to this problem is in the operating system itself. Experienced users, of course, guessed that we are talking about iBooks.

The mentioned software is an official Apple application designed specifically for reading books from iOS gadgets. Initially, iBooks was a stretch to call the ideal "reader", but today it has been greatly improved. The program quickly uploads any file, has many settings and the like. A number of users, having first become acquainted with this software, quickly abandoned it. And completely in vain. Today, iBooks is a very different product of very high quality.

In this article, we will tell you which book format is supported by the iPhone, and about the most popular "readers" for iOS gadgets.

This software works with 2 file formats:

Common electronic format FB2 books, unfortunately, are not supported by the program. But for any book, finding an alternative online is not a problem. You can also use the converter and translate the book into a suitable format. Of course, in this case, the text will lose a little in quality, but it will remain quite readable. The whole procedure usually takes less than a minute for the 1st copy.

Now that we know what formats you can download a book on iPhone in, let's look at how best to read the downloaded copies.

How to Fill iBooks with iTunes

Surely, after downloading the program, you will not be limited to 1-2 copies, but will want to create your own small book collection. To do this, follow these steps:

1 Open the iTunes utility and enter the book section. If there is no utility on your PC or laptop (or it is not the “freshest” version), download it from the Apple resource on the network. 2 Go to the media library section and move text files in EPUB or PDF formats to iTunes. If for some reason the drag and drop fails, use the manual method. To do this, go to the file menu, then to the section for adding files to the media library (or folders - if several copies are to be downloaded at once). 3 Using a USB cable, connect your iOS gadget to your laptop or PC. 4 Go to the book tab and activate the switch that starts the book synchronization operation. 5 Select the section of all books to transfer absolutely all files. Or the point of selected books - to move certain copies. 6 When the operation is complete, click the Finish button.

Reference. If the book section is not displayed, you need to click on the edit menu item. Next, activate the partition by clicking on the appropriate radio button.

Now it remains only to open iBooks, where you will see virtual shelves with downloaded copies. Any of them are ready to read.

As you can see, downloading books to an iPhone using this method is not the easiest and fastest procedure. And mainly due to the fact that you need to connect the gadget via a USB cable to a PC in order to download the book. But, fortunately, there is another method of downloading - via Wi-Fi. How to download books by this method, we will describe in detail further.

Method to download books to iBooks over Wi-Fi

Here, as in the previous method, we also need the iTunes utility. But now everything will happen without wires, through wifi network which greatly simplifies the procedure.

So, to fill iBooks, you need to do the following:

  • Reconnect your iOS gadget to your PC or laptop and open the iTunes utility.
  • Select your device and go to the overview tab, where you can activate the synchronization of the selected phone via Wi-Fi.
  • Confirm your decision by clicking the Done button.

At the end of the last step, the gadget can be disconnected from the PC. Communication with the iTunes utility will not be interrupted. And this means that the download can be done without connecting the mobile device to a PC or laptop. In exactly the same way, via Wi-Fi, you can delete books from the program's memory.

How to upload books to iBooks using Safari

Downloading book copies to the iPhone is available without the participation of the iTunes utility. But for this you need to find the right book on the net. To do this, you need to use the following algorithm:

  • Launch Safari and go to the resource of any library where you can download books in EPUB or PDF formats.
  • Find the desired instance using the search.
  • On the publication page, click on the download button in the desired format.
  • Scroll to the top of the window that opens and click on the section to open in the iBooks program. The instance will be added to the library.

Obviously, this method is the most convenient. But it is suitable for those who have a good Wi-Fi connection. If there are any problems with Wi-Fi, you will have to use the first method to replenish your collection.

How to read books in Aichitalk

Thanks to the application, anyone can add a book to an iPhone, given the appropriate formats for the iPhone. How to add the desired instance - we will tell below. And now a few words about the capabilities of the application.

This software was developed and released by the domestic company Aimobilko. And he was already able to prove himself perfectly in the App Store. The benefits of this program are as follows:

  • Large collection of books.
  • Extensive text editing options.
  • Attractive exterior design.

Before we talk about how to download books to this application, let's touch on its features a little. First, let's note the beautiful design of the i-chitalka, which the developers have recently fully adapted to the "OS" of the seventh version. But the most important factor is high speed software work even on older Apple gadgets. And this despite all its beauty and external effects!

Aychitalka contains 3 main sections:

  • Profile (your data).
  • Store (section for purchasing paid versions).
  • My Books (Storage section of books you drop off, where you can upload them).

The profile is designed to register a new user, but this operation is not required. If you do not download your copies, you can work in the system for free, but you can create a temporary "account".

Note that free books - a huge base. And basically these are works of classics of Russian literature. Books by foreign authors are often found in paid collections. And if you prefer foreign literature, you will have to register and subsequently purchase your favorite books for a fee.

Reading books on iPhone in Aichitalka is an incomparable pleasure. The user can change the fonts, style and brightness of the text while reading. And all this without unnecessary movement through the menu. The program also has the function of highlighting and saving quotes. It is also possible to write comments to certain paragraphs. There is also a search in the entire text of an instance in Aichitalka, as well as bookmarks.

And now about the most important thing - how to throw off the book and then read the downloaded text.

How to upload books to Aichitalka

If you are an avid book lover or prefer rare books or genres, then the free collection will obviously not suit you. You must know how to add (and before that access) a rare instance. In this case, it is not necessary to spend money on buying books - all the necessary copies can be downloaded using the imobilco.ru interface. For this you need:

  • Go to the specified site on the network and register (you can from a computer).
  • Enter the settings of the created profile and click on the "Storage" section.
  • Click on the download section of the book and download a specific copy in FB2 format.
  • Log in to Aichitalka using your "account" data that you created during registration.
  • Go to my books section and click on "Download All".
  • When the download is completed, the downloaded file will be available, and you can start reading any book.

The operation, as you can see, is very simple. The apps above will help you read books on iPhone. The free features of this software will be enough for the most demanding user. After all, hardly any of us reads all day long.

Yes, this question comes up from time to time. Nothing complicated.

Let's try to understand briefly. If you are not a long-time user of digital libraries, this is quite a common question. (There is such a feature: too many options cause some confusion. But there should be a choice. And the choice is often due to the technical limitations of reading devices.)

1. You need to decide on which device you are going to read the book. This is the main criterion for choosing a format. (!)

1.1.

If at your disposal desktop or laptop(and most likely 90% of users have a Windows operating system) - almost any format will suit you: ePub, PDF, fb2

_________

To open a PDF, the user usually does not need to make any effort, most of them already have Adobe program Reader. You can download the program here: link

This format can also be read on readers, tablets, but it is very important that the file is adapted for mobile devices (the page size should be much smaller than the A4 standard). Peculiarity- fixed layout of the text (the number of characters in one line is rigidly fixed, the text does not adjust to the width of the reading screen). Good for technical literature and documentation. Regardless of the operating system, the appearance of text and illustrations will be the same (cross-platform format).

The statistics are relentless: this format is the most familiar to readers and most in demand, although it is, ahem, not recommended for reading on mobile devices. Main difficulties- there is no way to set the font size that is comfortable for you. Files of this format can be opened in other viewers, which often take up less space, work faster, etc.:

Icecream Ebook Reader (Windows) (program overview)

The browsers Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Yandex browser do an excellent job of opening PDF.

Should warn: PDF files (and books in this format) can be dangerous for a computer (no less than doc files, exe files). They may contain scripts, hidden links, program codes exploiting reader vulnerabilities. Adobe regularly patches up new "security holes" in its products. You can read more, for example, here:
What dangers can PDF files pose by Aleks (Alexander Anufriev) 2013

_________

Format ePub (the main format of our publications)- it is recommended to install a reading program Azardi(Windows, Linux, Mac) (review link). Very nice interface, easy to install and use.

Another way is an add-on to the Mozilla Firefox browser - EPUBReader (you can see the program and links here) () Alas, for 2018 this method does not work for books in Russian.

If the book is already saved on your computer, you can read it in a browser even without an Internet connection.

Cool Reader 3 (Windows) - more universal program, because can read ePub, fb2, doc, html. About the program and download links, see.

Icecream Ebook Reader(Windows) for ePub, fb2, mobi, PDF, cbr, cbz(overview)

Yandex browser from about August-September 2014 allows you to read ePub without installation additional programs. (I don’t really like how this is implemented yet, but the efforts of programmers are already visible. For example, back in the early summer of 2014, the browser could not cope with reading valid ePub files that we do. Now- manages.)

ADE(cm. )- reads ePub, PDF. Refers to "reference" programs.

__________

Format fb2- widespread in electronic libraries networks in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet.

Almost all the people who ask me for advice on choosing one or another reading device ask questions about e-book formats - which is better and why. In this article, I will answer these questions in great detail; I will consider both formats for reading fiction, and formats for reading technical, scientific and educational literature.

Fiction

There are the following formats in which you can find fiction on the Internet: TXT, RTF, FB2, EPUB, MOBI, DOC, PDF, DJVU. I must say right away that it is better to buy / download books in EPUB, FB2 or MOBI. It is these formats that are most suitable for reading fiction.

PDF and DJVU formats are too heavy and inconvenient; often the text in them is actually a picture, that is, only the entire page can be scaled, but not the font size itself. On reading devices (readers), books in PDF and DJVU are sometimes not displayed very well: letters can be very small; text is hard to read.

The TXT and RTF formats are devoid of such shortcomings, but they have other disadvantages: the text in TXT cannot be formatted at all, that is, headings, epigraphs, quotes will not stand out in any way; moreover, covers, pictures and tables are not supported in TXT. This is a very poor, simple format. In RTF, of course, formatting options are richer, but even here there are shortcomings: automatically collected tables of contents and footnotes are not supported. In addition, RTF files are usually quite large, and some readers do not always display them correctly.

The DOC format (and its variant DOCX) is great for complex documents, but it is not suitable for fiction: it is too cumbersome, complicated; DOC documents often display differently on different devices.

It's quite another thing - a trio of specialized formats, sharpened specifically for fiction: EPUB, MOBI, FB2 (and its variant FB2.ZIP). These formats are based on the so-called "floating layout", which allows you to change the size, typeface, line spacing and margin width. At the same time, these formats support pictures, tables, an auto-assembled table of contents, footnotes, and many other things. Reading books in FB2/FB2.ZIP, EPUB, MOBI is really pleasant and comfortable.

Of course, there are certain differences between these formats, but for beginners they are not significant. Although it is worth noting that on the Russian-language Internet there are most books in FB2, in EPUB - already less, and in MOBI - even less.

The final choice of format also depends on your reader: with some format it may work better, with some worse. This is where you need to experiment. In addition, there are devices that support only one of the three formats. For example, the Amazon Kindle only reads MOBI, and the B&N Nook only reads EPUB.

You can read more about the FB2 format, about EPUB -, about MOBI -.

Scientific, technical and educational literature

Everything is more complicated here: this kind of literature is usually distributed in PDF, DJVU, DOC (DOCX) formats, each of which, as I noted earlier, has certain drawbacks. Sometimes it is still complicated by the fact that some books are available in only one format, and sometimes only in one version.

The DOC format, in principle, is not so bad - in comparison with PDF / DJVU. Reading books on a computer is more or less comfortable. Things are worse with reading devices: some readers display it almost like bare text, excluding a number of illustrations, tables, formulas, and so on. Others display more like a picture: design elements are shown, but you cannot change the font size and typeface, which sometimes turns into a disaster on a small screen.

PDF. There are three variants of this format: text, graphic ("picture") and graphic ("picture") with an OCR layer. The first option is the most preferred: it can contain all formatting elements, and the text remains scalable. In the case of an image PDF, the text is just a picture that can only be enlarged in its entirety; font size cannot be changed. Graphical PDFs are therefore very difficult to read on devices with small screens.

Sometimes an OCR layer is overlaid on the pages of image PDFs using text recognition software. In a PDF book with an OCR layer, you can search, use a dictionary. This is a good option. But, again, not all reading devices “see” this OCR layer. And it does not allow you to increase the font size. Therefore, the OCR layer is often useless.

The DJVU format generally resembles a graphical PDF: it's usually just a collection of scans or photos from a paper book. The quality of these scans/photos can be just terrible, or it can be quite decent. Sometimes an OCR layer is superimposed on scans / photos using a text recognition program. In a DJVU book with an OCR layer, you can search, use a dictionary. This is a good option. But, again, not all reading devices “see” this OCR layer, and it will not allow increasing the font size. Therefore, often the OCR layer is practically useless.

To summarize: the most preferred format for reading scientific / technical / educational literature is text PDF, I would put DOC in second place, graphic PDF and DJVU with an OCR layer in third. The last place is occupied by image PDFs and DJVUs without an OCR layer.

Documents, spreadsheets and presentations

Most of the documents, spreadsheets and presentations are distributed in MS Office formats: DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLSX, PPT/PPTX. These formats are very functional, but, unfortunately, rather "cumbersome" and very "closed" (in other words, it is rather difficult for third-party developers to create a program for reading files in these formats). Therefore, some devices do not support them. You have to convert documents to PDF.

Converting a document / table / presentation to PDF is very easy: any decent text / spreadsheet editor can do it. In addition, you can use some kind of converter: you can find a list of them.

If the document is simple, and the main thing in it is text, then it is better to convert it not to PDF, but to FB2 - so it will be read on the reader with great comfort. See the list of relevant converters.

MP4 is by far the most popular format played on mobile devices. MP4 came on mobile phones instead of 3GP and gained popularity due to the improved degree of video compression, the MP3 track used, and the ability to store various meta-data. If you're going to upload a video to the internet, MP4 can be most easily streamed over an internet connection and is supported by most video storage services. Also, the format is supported by most popular players, and codecs for playback are included in the basic package of any operating system and firmware.

An MP4 video file can be played on a computer immediately after reinstalling the operating system. The format can be played on portable players, car VCRs, TVs and any other electronics designed for displaying images. However, it is worth noting that videos saved in MP4 format may be of slightly lower quality than some other formats, but for mobile devices this fact is an advantage, because due to their small size, files can fit even on small removable media .

AVI is one of the most popular video compression formats. It is supported by any operating system and gained its popularity due to the high quality of the resulting image. Although the average AVI file is quite large, the format is still supported by most players on mobile devices and platforms. The disadvantage of the format is the impossibility of launching it in the absence of pre-installed codecs in the system. However, this problem is easily solved both on computers and on phones, tablets, players and other portable electronics.

MKV differs from other compression methods in its structure. The format is structurally a container that can store almost any information, various tracks with subtitles, audio tracks, chapters, an interactive menu, bookmarks, etc. At the same time, the MKV video file is open source and, if desired, can be easily opened and converted in various editors. MKV is a good choice for professionals who often work with video files both on computers and on modern mobile devices. The format is capable of storing video and audio with virtually no loss in quality. However, due to the low compression ratio of the video track, the size of the final MKV file is on average larger than that of other formats, and additional codecs must be installed to play this type of video. However, there are a number of mobile and computer players that allow video playback.

No matter how much physical memory your camera, sooner or later it will be filled with video and photo images. There will be a need to clean it up and transfer everything that you have removed to your computer's hard drive. We need a special cable and software. All of this is included camera. How to connect the camera to computer?

Instruction

Locate the included USB cable and plug it into any available USB port on your . This port is found on the front or back of any modern personal desktop computer, even both. Notebooks may have USB ports on the side or on the back.

After connecting the cable to the computer, the operating system will begin to recognize the new one connected and start installing new hardware. If the system asks for an installation disk, then insert the disk from your kit into the CD-ROM, which says "USB Driver". Installation will take less time, confirm its completion by clicking the "Finish" button in the final window of the installation wizard.

After that, a new window will appear on the screen, in which options with your camera will be offered. In doing so, it will be identified as a new "removable disk". We recommend that you immediately copy the images, saving them in a new or existing folder on your PC's hard drive.

Useful advice

If your computer is not too new and it does not have a USB port, then first make sure that a free PCI slot is available, purchase a USB controller and install it in the motherboard's PCI slot. Such a controller costs about a couple of hundred rubles.

Everything passes, only memories remain. The first steps of a child, a vacation on the sea coast, a birthday spent with friends - an ordinary video camera will help to keep the memory of these events for many years. Trying yourself as an operator, it is worth remembering some subtleties.

Instruction

Calm, just calm. Camera jerks and shake will ruin even the best shots. A tripod would be the ideal out of the situation, but not everyone can afford the extra expense, and far from every situation, using a tripod will be appropriate and justified. Therefore, it is worth practicing in shooting "handheld". Several simple rules help to avoid frame shake. Firstly, shoot as little as possible on the go (for the first time, it’s better to completely refuse to shoot while moving), and secondly, learn how to hold camera. For example, right hand keeps camera, left - props up the right. In this case, the elbows should be tightly pressed to the body or rest against the stomach. It will help to stabilize the image in the frame by relying on the railing, the back of the chair, the table. Do not under any circumstances keep camera on an outstretched hand.

Change angles. In any, or broadcast, filmed and edited by professionals, frames change approximately every 5-7 seconds. It is rare to see the so-called extra-long or 12-second frame. Meanwhile, amateur cameramen like to shoot the same object for a long time, often from the same shot. This makes a painful impression, it is not interesting to watch. Therefore, it is worth changing the angle, shooting point as often as possible, shooting close-up details. It is better to shoot in pieces, without translating camera from one object to another, while pressing pause.

Keep straight. One of the common disadvantages of amateur video filming is a littered horizon. Novice operators simply do not pay attention to this seemingly trifle, but as a result, most of the footage cannot be used in editing. To avoid this mistake, stick to the "vertical", focusing on lampposts, walls, traffic lights.

Watch out for color reproduction. Before shooting indoors with artificial, it is worth adjusting the white balance. Otherwise, the camera may pick up color and make faces appear yellow or blue. Have someone hold a plain white sheet of paper a short distance from the lens and manually change the settings so that it also looks pure white on the camera screen.
