The service for ordering a taxi through Gett applications launches a courier delivery service in Moscow, Gett Courier. Now, with the help of the Gett application, users in Moscow will be able to order not just a taxi, but a courier who can deliver a small parcel to the desired address within the Moscow Ring Road, a representative of the company Alena Balakireva told RBC.

“We noticed that our clients often use taxis not for classic trips, but for sending gifts, documents, educational materials, forgotten keys and other items,” says Balakireva. But a taxi ride, especially given the Moscow traffic jams, turns out to be more expensive than courier delivery. Therefore for new service Gett cancels per-minute tariffication and introduces a single tariff: 400 rubles. within the Third Ring Road and 600 rubles. within the Moscow Ring Road.

Small businesses, according to Balakireva, also regularly use the taxi service as a courier delivery, mainly for sending documents. Small flower shops, bookstores, pastry shops and gift shops will also actively use the service, she hopes.

The new service may also appeal to online stores. Vitaly Krylov, CEO of Gett in Russia, believes that with the help of the new service, customers in Moscow will be able to receive their orders within an hour. Competitors doubt Gett will be able to compete seriously in the online express delivery market. “They will not be able to work with small businesses and online stores, because then 95% of their taxi cars will be packed with boxes with orders,” says Filipp Egorov, PR director of the Bringo courier service (Bringo is a platform that aggregates courier orders, the executors of which can become any "bringer" who registers on it). Such delivery is more targeted at individuals, which makes Gett more like a concierge service, he said. The logistics company DPD had experience of cooperation with private couriers with their own cars, Yegorov says, but he was soon abandoned: as soon as the car gets stuck in a traffic jam, it is a disaster for express delivery, which assumes that the customer will receive his goods in one and a half to two hours ... The founder of the Peshkariki courier service, Dmitry Petrov, believes that Gett will not succeed in becoming a very popular service among online stores, since clothing is one of the most popular categories of express delivery: it is important for users to be able to try on things and return some of them along with the courier to the store, he explains. Gett will not have such an option: the driver will not go up to the floor with the package, nor will he wait for the return of the goods; the user of the application will have to go out to the car himself when the taxi arrives. In addition, taxis are often more expensive than pedestrian carriers. “We also tried to cooperate with taxi drivers, but they demand 500-600 rubles for the delivery of one parcel, while our service costs 330 rubles,” says Petrov.

Not all taxi drivers will deliver user packages to Gett, but only those who have completed a special training course: it concerns both aspects of safety and service, says Balakireva. “Since users often send quite valuable items, such as documents, we have to trust 100% those who perform the delivery, so they will most likely be drivers with a lot of Gett experience,” she notes. For the safety of the cargo, the driver will be responsible, they say in Gett, for this reason, especially valuable cargo, for example, large, but fragile household appliances, for transportation, most likely, they will not be accepted, she points out. Gett is also thinking about introducing a minimum insurance for cargo, but the amount has not yet been determined. In addition, the user will have to agree with the rules for the provision of courier services (most likely, this will happen when placing an order online) and undertake, for example, not to transfer any illegal parcels with the courier.

According to Petrov, it is standard practice for the sender to sign an agreement on the provision of courier services. Theoretically, sending illegal goods along with services is possible, he reasons, but the courier has the right to demand that the contents of the parcel be shown or even refuse to fulfill the order if he doubts that the content matches the description. There were few such cases, but they did take place, says Petrov.

The delivery service from Gett was launched in Tel Aviv at the end of last year, and has been operating in London since the beginning of February. What is the volume of orders in these cities, service representatives do not disclose, but note that their number is "growing every day."
