A very large segment of the market today has moved to the Internet. This includes communication, sales, and advertising. Therefore, many in-demand Internet professions have appeared. The most popular of them are, of course, programmers, designers and Internet marketers. These people create websites and promote products. Since it is thanks to them that sales are made and the company receives income, such people are highly valued. They receive large salaries, work in good conditions, in a convenient office or remotely. And most importantly, they are not afraid of tomorrow, because... They know for sure that their profession will be in demand for a long time.

Today we would like to talk about such an Internet profession as email marketer. What he does, how much he earns and where you can study for it, read our article to the end.

What is an email marketer?

Email marketer(or email marketing manager, and sometimes just an internet marketer, online advertising manager) is a person involved in mass mailings. Usually these are mailings of letters to your client base, but there are also mailings of messages in various instant messengers and via SMS. A professional email marketer is responsible for all email communications: commercial mailings, responses to feedback letters, organizing trigger (or automatic) emails, including registration letters, payment letters, etc.

Such mailings are made through special email newsletter services. In them you can create colorful letters in a block constructor or in html code, do A/B testing, launch a series of auto-letters, segment contact databases and much more.

When we searched on HeadHunter, the largest job search site, “email marketer” we got 521 vacancies per month throughout Russia (although this also includes vacancies for Internet marketers in general, whose responsibilities also include email marketing). Of these, 187 vacancies are in Moscow, the rest in the regions. In addition, 40 vacancies are available on a remote schedule.

Email marketer salary most often not indicated, but generally starts from 40 tr. in the regions and from 100 tr. in the capital. At the same time, very good working conditions are provided: an office within walking distance from the metro, payment of voluntary health insurance, tea, coffee, cookies (as well as fruit or discounts on lunch), friendly staff, career growth, professional literature, payment for additional courses on development in the field and etc.

We especially liked this vacancy from PROFI.RU:

Help with moving to Moscow, rice or oatmeal for breakfast, payment of half the cost of voluntary health insurance, fitness, expenses for a car and rent for an apartment near the office, and even a weekly manicure with partial payment! (this is probably if the director really doesn’t like the nails on your fingers with which you will type his letters)))

Responsibilities of an email marketing manager for a business

What are the responsibilities of an email marketing specialist? Let's list the main ones:

  1. Collecting a subscriber base and segmenting it. Most often, you have to work with an existing database of many thousands, but in various startups you will have to create a database of email addresses from scratch, think about what groups it can be divided into and what strategy to pursue with each specific group.
  2. Creating trigger email chains. Trigger emails are automatic emails that are sent depending on certain customer actions. For example, congratulations on registering on your site, reminders about a forgotten cart, transactional emails, etc.
  3. Creating an email marketing strategy. How many letters to send per week so as not to be intrusive and not to be forgotten, what to write about in letters, what style to choose, how to organize the layout, etc.
  4. Creating different types of letters and sending them out on time. And there are a lot of types of email letters: transactional, registration, congratulatory, advertising, content, letters with promotions, etc. They will require not only text, but also pictures, and correct html layout. True, you don’t have to do all this yourself; you need to be able to give the correct technical specifications (technical specifications) to the programmers, designers, and layout designers who are on staff.
  5. Analysis of results and optimization of strategy. Ability to use Yandex Metrica and various post offices, conducting A/B testing to identify the best sending time, letter content, etc.

Of course, most companies require specific knowledge and skills and some experience in the field of email marketing. Where can I get it? And how do you become a great email marketer? Especially if you live in the regions and there is no opportunity to study at large commercial universities in the capital. Yes, to be honest, they don’t teach this in our universities, unfortunately. What to do then?

“Email marketing: increasing sales and expanding our customer base”: Netology online course, reviews

You can learn the profession of email marketer on your own. To do this, you need to scour Google and Yandex, familiarize yourself with the basic concepts, and try different mailing services. It would be a good idea to read professional literature on this topic and listen to some video tutorials on writing letters. In addition, any novice email marketer massively subscribes to the mailing lists of the most famous companies in order to study how professionals do it and what is trending now.

It will take several weeks and a lot of persistence to get to the entry level, and it will take several months to qualify for a more or less decent salary.

All this can be done faster and easier. For example, take a training program in Netology “Email marketing: increasing sales and expanding our customer base” .

Like all Netology courses, which is about, this is not a simple manual on how to make mailings, but complex training, with several teachers (about 8 experts, leading Internet marketing managers of large companies), online video lessons, chatting, homework and final thesis. Upon completion of the course, you will have the right to consider yourself qualified email marketer and you will be able to apply for vacant positions in this area. In addition, you will receive a diploma and this nice resume:

The email marketing course from Netology will start on September 28 and will last 2 months, until December 14. Training takes place in the format of online webinars 2 times a week, from 17.00 to 19.00 Moscow time. If you are unable to attend the class, you can watch it recorded. After each lesson you receive homework that you must complete within 5 days. At the end, you take a final test and defend your diploma. Everything is like in a real university!

1. Implementation of email marketing:

  1. Ways to collect the mailing list;
  2. Choosing an email marketing strategy;
  3. Database segmentation, working with the database;
  4. Rapid implementation of email marketing;
  5. ROI and KPI: email marketing in business metrics;

2. Email marketer tools:

  1. Review: services for email marketers;
  2. Master class on the ExpertSender service;
  3. Master class on setting up the Unisender service;

3. Types of email newsletters:

  1. Content email newsletters;
  2. Cases: mailings of glossy magazines;
  3. Automatic (trigger) mailing;

4. Working with content in email marketing:

  1. Master class on design and layout;
  2. Working with content to increase engagement;

5. Analytics in email marketing:

  1. Spam/anti-spam policy when developing an email strategy;
  2. Email newsletter analytics.

Thus, you will get a complete understanding of the work of an email manager, master basic skills, develop an email strategy and write several letters.

Netology promises to help graduates of its courses in employment or internship in large companies. They help with resume writing, give recommendations on how to pass interviews, and even refer you to their partners, who select newly minted email marketers to join their team.

Since the course has not started yet, we cannot write honest review whether we liked it or not. But some of our employees had previously completed training programs at Netology and were satisfied. In particular, the course on email marketing, which was previously available and, perhaps, largely repeats the new training program, became a real breakthrough for me. I entered this profession from scratch, and I still use the knowledge I gained. In particular, the discovery for me at that time was that there are many types of email letters, that different mailing lists are sent to different segments of clients, and most importantly, that all letters are sent not from mail.ru, but through special mailing services (such as getresponse, mailchimp, unisender, etc.).

Should I study email marketing at Netology or not?

Let's summarize.

Pros:

  1. Comprehensive training. Online webinars, homework assignments, group discussions and personal discussions with the teacher.
  2. Basic and complete knowledge and skills in the profession. You will receive all the skills that are listed in the “email marketer” vacancies for large companies, and you will acquire a full-fledged profession.
  3. Several high level teachers. All of them have been personally involved in email marketing for several years and, in addition to theory, share their personal experience.
  4. Confirmation of training. You will receive a diploma in Netology, which is highly valued on the Internet.
  5. Help with employment. Writing a resume, preparing for interviews, searching for vacancies among partners.

Minuses:

  1. Price. Yes, the cost of the course is quite high, but in our opinion, the price is commensurate with the quality.
  2. Duration. 2 months is, of course, not 2 hours to study some instructions on information business. But this is quite an adequate time to master an entire profession from scratch.
  3. Labor costs. You will have to work hard. If you are not ready to spend time and effort on this, then it is better not to even start. This is not a “money” button or setting up some kind of program for making money on a machine. It's just a rewarding job that some can only dream of.
