How can a person understand what he is capable of. "Polite people": what the Russian special forces of the MTR are capable of. Howard Engel can write but cannot read

The abbreviation SSO stands for Special Operations Forces. It's elite military formation Ministry of Defense of Russia. If in the United States a similar structure has existed since 1987, then in our country the creation of an elite unit began only in 2009.

The main difference between this unit is that its fighters can operate outside the territory of the Russian Federation, in states with which Russia is not at war, and can, as the charter says, “use methods and methods of combat operations that are not characteristic of conventional forces : reconnaissance and sabotage, subversive, counter-terrorist, counter-sabotage, counterintelligence, guerrilla, anti-guerrilla and other actions.

Behind these dry lines of an official document is an incredibly risky job, which the fighters most clearly demonstrated during the operation in Syria, where, by order of the command, they were transferred to fight IS *. There, the military was engaged in reconnaissance, the destruction of the commanders of terrorist groups, the adjustment of the fire of our aircraft and many other tasks that will remain classified for a long time to come.

So, let's recall the most famous MTR operations at the moment, most of the information about which is classified.

Crimea

Soldiers of the Special Operations Forces took part in maintaining order on the Crimean peninsula when a coup d'etat took place in Ukraine. The Russian government has decided to send fighters to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to ensure the safety of Russian citizens there. Presumably, it was they who took part in the capture of the Belbek military airfield in Sevastopol, some of whose personnel at first refused to lay down their arms.

After a two-day confrontation, the fighters were able to occupy the territory of the unit without casualties and convince its commander to leave the location.

I call fire on myself

After the Crimea, the MTR fighters were noted in the Syrian operations of the Russian Aerospace Forces. There, the soldiers were engaged in the destruction of the field commanders of terrorist groups, as well as adjusting the fire of our aviation. In March 2016, the MTR fighter Alexander Aleksandrovich Prokhorenko proved to the whole world that their unit is elite not only due to skills and equipment, but also due to military spirit. He reported the coordinates of the warehouses of bandits in the province of Homs. The militants figured out his position and surrounded Alexander. He fired back as much as he could, but when he realized that there was no way out for him, he called on himself artillery fire. He died, but took with him a lot of enemies. For this feat, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

This act became widely known abroad and admired by people around the world. So, the French family Mage, as a sign of respect and admiration for Alexander Prokhorenko, handed over to his widow the awards of their relatives from the Second World War: the Order of the Legion of Honor and the Military Cross with a palm branch.

16 vs 300

Another feat glorified the SOF when a handful of 16 fighters were forced to resist an offensive of more than 300 terrorists.

It was near Aleppo. One of the many enemy groups attacked the Syrian government troops in this area. One day, our fighters, as usual, were in the area where the Syrian army was located, when suddenly a powerful shelling began. The Syrians retreated, which the militants did not fail to take advantage of. They planned to take the dominant height, but suddenly found themselves under fire. It turned out that, unlike the Syrians, 16 MTR fighters did not run, but accepted the battle.

The battalion of militants used artillery, a shahid-mobile (a car filled with explosives with a suicide at the wheel) was also sent to the position under the cover of an armored tractor, they hit from tanks, "Guards", stormed on two infantry fighting vehicles, but our soldiers destroyed all this equipment with the help of guided missiles . On the first day, they fought off more than four attacks.

At night, the fighters mined the approaches, which became a big nuisance for the fighters. The next day, the terrorists made several more unsuccessful sorties. In a day and a half, about 10 attacks were repelled, after which the enemies retreated. 300 corpses remained on the battlefield. Ours left the battle without losses.

Hold on to the last

A similar incident happened in August 2017. A detachment of five SOF fighters arrived at a checkpoint of the Syrian army, which controlled traffic on the Akerbat-As-Sukhne road section. Suddenly, several dozen militants attacked the checkpoint. Part of the Syrian military was killed, and part fled. We had no choice but to fight.

Soon, due to heavy fire, almost all members of the team were injured. Only the youngest fighter, Corporal Denis Portnyagin, remained unharmed. Taking a machine gun, he single-handedly began to shoot back. After some time, a bullet hit his machine gun and he failed. Denis continued to fight back with automatic bursts and grenades. During a short respite, he managed to get in touch with his own and call for help. When the militants got closer, our artillery came into action: it cut off the reinforcements of the bandits, after which our helicopters cleared the place.

When Syrian reinforcements arrived at the checkpoint, all the fighters were already holding grenades in their hands, preparing to blow themselves up so as not to be captured. In the end, everyone survived. Denis Portnyagin was presented with the Hero of Russia award, which was personally presented to him by Vladimir Putin.

The human brain is capable of doing amazing things. A simple example: we can perceive light that is reflected from various objects around us. Light enters our eyes and our optic nerves convert it into electrochemical impulses. Impulses are the "language" of the brain that it uses to communicate. The electricity travels through the neural network and reaches the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for analyzing these impulses. It is the hippocampus that distributes the received impulses to different areas of the brain. And now the impulse directed to the visual area of the cerebral cortex suddenly turns into road sign, seeing which we understand where to direct the car.

And even the most ordinary brain surgeries can be amazing cases. As a result of surgery, injury, or illness, the human brain can begin to do amazing, and in some cases, terrible things.

1. Pam Reynolds and her afterlife experience

Pam Reynolds

Apparently, Pam Reynolds, a blues performer from Atlanta, Georgia, was a normal person before she underwent surgery to remove brain aneurysms. During the operation, doctors drained all the blood from her brain, so it was inactive for 45 minutes. All processes were interrupted in it, starting from receiving signals about the feeling of hunger from the stomach and ending with the transmission of visual and sound information.

Despite this, after waking up, the singer was able to describe in great detail everything that the doctors did to her. Her example is considered the most striking example of a post-mortem experience. However, Reynolds' experience is far from unique. In one hospital in the Netherlands, a study was conducted on cardiac patients. And the study found that out of 344 near-death patients, 18% reported experiencing "life after death" experiences.

And most of all in the history of the singer, the fact that experienced doctors were engaged in the “temporary shutdown” of her brain was impressive. However, she was able to reproduce all the details of the operation, from the description of the instruments used by the doctors to the topics of their conversations during the operation.

2. Henry Molaison and his inability to form new memories

Henry Molaison is a patient, one of a kind. Because only he had a chance to survive the operation to remove the medial temporal lobe of the brain. This was done in order to save him from debilitating attacks. When the doctor who performed the procedure found out what happened to Henry's memory, he categorically refused to perform such operations on anyone else, and also began to oppose other doctors performing similar procedures.

The removal of the medial temporal lobe, located above the ear, led to the fact that Molaison began to suffer from a very rare disorder known as anterograde amnesia. With this disorder, the patient's brain cannot form new memories, but the patient remembers everything that happened to him in the past. That is, Henry remembered everything that happened to him before the operation, everything that happened to him in 27 years of his life. He still had the ability to form procedural memories, in other words, habits. But his brain was unable to capture new declarative memories, and he could not remember his friend with whom he had just had lunch, could not remember the name of the current president, and so on.

In this state, Henry lived for 55 years, and he died in 2008, when he was 82 years old. Because of his uniqueness, Henry has been the subject of a number of studies and is now known in neurological circles as the "HM" patient.

3. Robin Jenks Vanderlip and her Russian accent

Robin Jenks Vanderlip has never been to Russia. Robin is a resident of McLean, Virginia and has spent her entire life on the East Coast of the United States. But a couple of days after she fell down the stairs and hit her head, she woke up and found herself unable to talk. Over time, Robin's speech recovered, and then she noticed that she was speaking in her native English language with a Russian accent.

Robin is one of 60 patients in the world who have been diagnosed with foreign accent syndrome by doctors. This is a very rare disease that is always associated with brain damage, either as a result of physical trauma or as a result of a stroke.

This may sound like a foreign accent, but patients don't "train" it on purpose, it's just that their speech center changes the way patients form words. And the most amazing thing about this syndrome is that the words are formed in a predictable way, and it all starts to resemble some existing accent, even if the person has never encountered it before.

4. Howard Engel can write but can't read

When Canadian writer Howard Engel suffered a stroke in 2001, he thought, "Well, I'm done with writing." This was indeed the case, because after a while he realized that one of the consequences of the stroke was the inability to recognize printed text. Instead, it seemed to Howard that he was seeing text in front of him, written in an unfamiliar language. foreign language. He could not read individual words. He couldn't even pronounce the names of the letters.

What is surprising here is that Engel soon continued to write, and he did this despite the fact that he did not understand the meaning of the words. The ability to write from visual memory passed into motor memory. Engel defines words in a special way, he deduced letters over and over again, using only motor memory to write them. And he found that he was able to read as long as he wrote the text. Since the ability to write was not lost, the writer began to actively fight for a normal life. As a result, he was able to achieve serious results in the fight against his illness, but he could not fully regain the ability to read.

5. A girl from Germany sees perfectly with only one hemisphere of the brain.

The excellent vision of a 10-year-old girl from Germany baffled doctors, as she was born with only one, the left hemisphere of the brain. And for good vision, both hemispheres are needed, since visual information coming from the optic nerves is fed to opposite hemispheres of the brain for processing and storage. Therefore, with one hemisphere, only one eye should see, in the case of a girl, only the right.

However, the girl's vision is excellent and she has normal binocular vision. In 2010, doctors performed a brain scan on her in an attempt to find out the cause of this phenomenon. It turned out that the optic nerve of the girl's left eye "migrated" to the left hemisphere, that is, the left hemisphere of the girl's brain can perceive information coming from both eyes. In the visual cortex of her left hemisphere formed special areas, intended only for processing visual information from the left eye. This helps to avoid confusion.

6 Almost Melted Baby Brain

The Australian girl now known in medical literature as "Baby Z" was born in 2008 and began to suffer from seizures. They were caused by a rare genetic defect known as "molybdenum cofactor deficiency". Because of it, the brain cannot produce enzymes that create a cofactor, a special non-protein component that the body needs in order for other substances in the body to perform their functions. As a result, a huge amount of sulfite accumulated in the child's brain. Sulfite is toxic, and it literally melts the brain, resulting in the death of the patient.

In the process of "melting", the child experienced severe pain and seizures, and tissue damage occurred in the brain, followed by loss of swallowing and movement functions.

"Baby Z" is the first time that the above disorder has been successfully treated. An experimental treatment developed in Germany was brought to Australia, and after approval was obtained, doctors began treating the baby. Three days later, the seizures and twitching stopped. A few weeks later, the girl made a full recovery, by now she is alive and well, and her brain processes sulfites like any other.

Source 7The Pittsburgh Woman Who Seemed All Her Friends Like Strangers

In 1996, a 22-year-old American woman suffered a head injury as a result of a car accident. Two years passed, and she began to suffer from seizures. In 2004, she was taken to the psychiatric ward of a Pittsburgh hospital, because the woman kept talking about being surrounded by strangers, although these "strangers" were her friends and members of her family. The woman told the doctors that one of the roommates was her boyfriend, that the nurse who worked with her was her own sister, and that one of the hospital doctors was her mother.

Doctors diagnosed the woman with a rare disease called Fregoli syndrome. It is named so in honor of an actor from Italy, who was famous for the very fast change of costumes during the performance, and the very fast change of roles. Patients suffering from this syndrome often claim that the people around them are the same person, or they are several persons who are potentially dangerous to the patient.

After a month of treatment, the woman's condition was stabilized, while she did not remember anything that she had experienced.

8. Orlando Serrel and his incredible memory

Orlando Serrel / © www.daserste.de

Orlando Serrel is an incredibly gifted man. But he did not receive his gift naturally, but after being hit with a baseball bat. At the age of 10, the boy received a blow during the game, after which his head hurt for several days. And after some time, Orlando found that he was able to remember what was happening on any day, starting from August 17, 1979 (it was on this day that he was hit on the head).

In most cases, he can even remember the weather on a given day, and similar insignificant details of his life. He himself says that his amazing ability is the result of the fact that he sees a calendar in front of his "mind's eye", while he does not perform any special memory training exercises.

9. Michael Cork and his inability to sleep

Until 1990, the world record for staying awake at 11.5 days (276 hours) belonged to a man from Finland named Toymi Soini. After that, no one else appeared in the Guinness Book of Records, since the organization refused to enter records into it that tell about behavior that is extremely dangerous to health.

Michael Cork / © dailymail.co.uk

Because we all need to sleep, and those who do not sleep at all will not live very long. It was because of the lack of sleep that a Chicago music teacher named Michael Cork died. His brain literally turned out to be "blocked", and did not allow the person to fall asleep. Cork suffered from rare disease known as fatal familial insomnia, in which a particular gene stops coding for certain proteins, causing toxins to accumulate in the thalamus. This part of the brain is responsible for sleep, and because it begins to work incorrectly, the body and mind are constantly awake.

A few months later, Cork showed signs of dementia. In an attempt to somehow regulate the functioning of his brain, doctors tried to put him into a state of artificial coma with the help of drugs, but even in this state, the brain still remained active. Cork died in 1992, six months after his first sleepless night.

10. Sam Escubel and his foot in the brain

After another ultrasound, Sam Exubel's mother was shocked by the news that a tumor was developing in her son's brain. Three days after giving birth, Sam underwent brain surgery, during which the tumor was removed.

When the surgeons finally got to the tumor, they were surprised to realize that a small human foot was growing in the child's brain. Doctors put forward two possible diagnoses: either it is a teratoma, or it is the so-called "fetus in the fetus." A teratoma is a rare type of tumor that can grow hair, teeth, nails, or skin inside. "Fetus in fetus" is another very rare disorder where one of the twins, while in the womb, absorbs the other.

After careful research, the surgeons found that they really had a case of a “fetus in a fetus”, because in addition to the foot, they also found an arm, thigh and intestines. The surgeons also successfully removed all these tumors, and now the child is alive and well.

25 quotes to wake up your inner fighter

How to develop self-confidence

Through years of studying our insides at every opportunity, scientists have come to understand how virtually every part of our body works. However, the most mysterious part of our body is the brain. And the more we study it, the more mysterious it becomes. You can’t even imagine what amazing things our “thinker” is capable of. Don't worry, scientists didn't know this for a long time either.

Brain superhero.

Today we will talk about the 10 most incredible features of our brain that make us almost superheroes.

The brain can create false memories

Trick me.

Here's a scientific fact for you: our brains can create fake memories. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you remember something, although in reality this never happened? No, we are not talking about memories of past lives where you were Caesar or Cleopatra. It's about the fact that you "remember" how you did things that you didn't actually do. They thought that they borrowed money from a neighbor, but in fact they did not. They thought that they bought some thing, but in fact they did not buy it. There are a lot of such examples.

There are more impressive ones. For example, our brain can convince us that we have committed a crime. In one experiment, scientists were able to inculcate and create false memories in 70 percent of participants. They began to think that they had committed a theft or an armed attack.

Our brain can predict the future

Our brain is the perfect alarm clock

The brain wakes itself up better than any smartphone.

“I don't need an alarm clock. I'm my own alarm clock,” some people say. Know they are not joking. If you stick to a routine (going to bed and waking up at the same time), your brain gets used to it. Our own biological clock is better than any alarm clock. Therefore, many people can wake up even before the nasty bell rings, announcing that it is time to get up for work. Often this is observed, for example, in office workers.

Our brains can 'listen' and learn while we sleep.

Would you like to study in your sleep?

We tend to think that during sleep our brain is completely switched off. Actually it is not. Yes, some parts of the brain do rest, reducing their activity. But, ! During the so-called REM phase, a person is able to remember some things. During experiments in front of sleeping people, scientists played certain sound signals (which people had never heard before). Then the people woke up, and the researchers played these signals again and asked them to say which of these sounds seemed familiar. And people recognized them!

The brain can learn through imagination

Creativity is not for everyone.

A simple experiment, first conducted over 100 years ago. The people were divided into two groups. One group was taught basic piano skills using the instrument. The training of the other group took place without the piano. People were simply told how to put and move their fingers correctly, and they also described how this or that note sounds. By the end of the training, it was found that both groups had the same skills - both were able to play the melody they were taught on the piano.

In the 1990s, with the use of more modern scientific tools, scientists actually found out that imaginary learning and practice can have the same effect on the brain as real ones.

Our brains are in "autopilot mode"

Have you ever experienced the feeling of being on autopilot?

As soon as we master some skill well, our brain connects a certain department to work, the so-called passive mode network. It is used to perform tasks that do not require complex analysis, since their solution has already been repeatedly tested and brought to automatism.

People were taught one card game that requires a little thought process. People played well, but when, after numerous games, this same network of passive mode of operation was connected to work, they began to play even better.

Learning other types of skills is more difficult for people. For example, playing instruments. At first, it's very difficult. But after, when your hands and fingers remember how to play correctly, your brain actually turns off. And you start doing it automatically.

Our brain is able to build muscle in our body

Imaginary workouts, they are.

It's summer now, and many of us are probably again sighing bitterly about not being able to prepare for it. All these diets and fitness centers have remained our desires and memories. Do not despair! Our brains are capable of increasing the strength of our bodies if we just think about it.

In an experiment, one group of people were asked every day (for 5 days) for 11 minutes to imagine that they are engaged in increasing the strength of the hands. By the end of the experiment, it was found that the group of people who thought about pumping up their hands had a grip strength twice as high as those who did not.

Is it possible to get six pack abs with the same method? You won't know until you try.

Our brain can sense magnetic fields

The brain is still a compass.

Some species of animals and birds, as well as insects, are able to sense the Earth's magnetic field. This allows them to navigate in space and find the right path. You will be surprised, but a person also has such an opportunity. You can read more about this. In short, experiments have shown that our brain is able to detect changes in the direction of a magnetic field. True, we do not use this ability. But our distant ancestors - very much could.

To date, many abilities have not yet been revealed, but what a person is capable of few actually know. Scientists have proven that our human brain is only 3% studied, so we have not even passed even half of the stage internal development. Therefore, we need to seek and develop our abilities given to us by nature in order to realize something more than the usual material world.

In the article, you will learn about what a person is capable of, psychologists will give you advice on how to develop natural abilities. How to begin to realize something more than the usual days that do not bring any joy. Indeed, there are many abilities, but people do not even use the opportunities that are already open and exist.

A man is capable of anything he believes in

Today people believe in a variety of things, but what a person is capable of who has a strong belief in himself and in everything he believes, not everyone realizes. With strong faith, you can heal yourself of incurable diseases, when doctors have already determined the date of death, you can walk on hot coals, glass, and not even cut yourself or burn yourself. Vera, if it is developed every day, it can do anything with a person. Therefore, realize what you need and what you believe in and develop in this direction to make sure it's effective this method. But do not try to do what the pros do, because without preparation and daily training, you can hurt yourself and become frustrated. Find out, this will allow you to become more aware and find real friends.

Man is able to materialize his thoughts

Scientists have long proven that many people have confirmed in practice that our thoughts are material. This is not a fantasy, each person is able to materialize any thought, backed up by faith and action. When you constantly, and every day for 10 minutes, scroll through the same event in life or thoughts about what you don’t have, imagining that you already have it, then you materialize your thought the way you thought about it. The problem is that people have not learned to think correctly and imagine what they really want, because wrong thoughts can harm you, people and nature, or materialize not the way you wanted.

Every person is capable of success, wealth, prosperity and happiness.

Whether the person is poor, unhappy or unlucky, everyone has the opportunity to become whoever he or she wants to be. It is enough just to want something strongly and start acting according to a given plan and try to do something more every day to realize what was conceived. The poor man has become so not because he has no money, but because he has poor thoughts, he constantly thinks about poverty, jealous of the rich, despises money and says that they are not the main thing in life. There is nothing fantastic in life that distinguishes successful person from unsuccessful, rich from poor except thoughts. It is thoughts that decide who you become, how you think is what is realized in life. It makes no sense to blame others, everything is inside you, in your head, change the direction and flow of thoughts - your life will change too.

Man is able to change his destiny

Everyone believes in fate, not realizing that it is not accidental and is taken for a reason, because there are no accidents in the world and surprises, it all depends on whether we live consciously or not. A conscious person is not surprised by the events in life, since he sees them in advance in his imagination, controls and creates a new reality. Unconscious people live in a mystery, it seems to them that the world is full of surprises and fate. Each person is able to live as he wants, consciously or not, and change his destiny by controlling his internal state, thoughts, emotions and desires. Find out, since you will come across a variety of people in the world who need a benefit from us and you are given the opportunity and ability to refuse or help this person, in either case you will still be right, since it is your choice.

What is a person?

If a person is positioned as a biological species, then to the question: “What is a person capable of?”, each of us can confidently say that:

  • Man is endowed with a brain, or rather the ability to think and the ability to make a free choice;
  • Can make various decisions and accordingly take responsibility for their consequences;
  • Man is endowed with the concept of morality and justice.

Of course, the list doesn't end there. The person actively adapts to environment, knows how to use various tools and produce them, can clearly express his thoughts through speech. He is also endowed with a sense of humor, a variety of emotions with which he can express his behavior and attitude towards certain things. In the end, a person can change not only the space around him, creating something, but also himself, constantly developing and improving throughout his life, both the personality of this incarnation and the soul as a whole.

As can be seen from this extensive list, a person is actually a very special being and capable of many possibilities.

And how does a person and his capabilities look from the standpoint of spiritual development?

If we take as a statement that the soul and, accordingly, a person, are created in the likeness of the Higher forces, then each of us is a hologram, a prototype of the most intelligent being in the Universe. What kind of creature it is and how exactly it appears is not so important. It is important that we have exactly the same qualities and abilities as the Universe.

What can the Universe do?

The universe has an amazing ability to create! To create: new outer spaces, planets, their inhabitants (including us), the nature of these various places, landscapes, weather conditions and everything, absolutely everything that is in our vast space - the Universe.

It is often difficult for us to even imagine how large and majestic it is. How varied its manifestation and forms. But all this, it was she who created it, our mother and progenitor of everything - the Universe!

So how do we humans differ from the Universe if we are its hologram?

We are inherently created to create and thereby develop. We try, change, dream, do, connect, create and evolve. Because we are like the universe. She gives us this amazing ability to make us feel like creators in every sense. Be it our destiny, our thoughts, our behavior, our children, our works.

Our happiness, harmony, inner and outer world depend only on us, because we are creators. If you want happiness, then create it yourself. If you want harmony, develop yourself every day. If you want inner and outer comfort, then just do and create what you have always wanted!

Have you ever dreamed of building? Build! Wanted to write a book? Write! Write and sing a song? Sing.

Create new ideas, dream, embody everything that comes into your head, even if someone behind you screams that this is impossible. Because in the Universe, everything is possible, which means that you can absolutely everything!

For example, I want to introduce you to a person who has already become world famous as an amazingly talented jazz pianist, but completely blind from birth -. As you can see, a person is really capable of anything!
