How to change headers and footers in powerpoint. Editing the slide master of the presentation. Apply a different layout to a slide

In PowerPoint, the settings for inserting a footer and formatting individual elements are in different places. In this article, I'll show you not only how you can take advantage of these settings, but also how to turn a footer into a header.

Insert a footer into PowerPoint slides

PowerPoint allows you to add independent headers and footers to each individual slide. If you want a specific element to appear across multiple slides, you will need to select the slides you want first. To select, click on the first slide, press the Ctrl key and, while holding it, select the rest of the slides with one simple click.

In versions before 2003, the Insert Header and Footer command can be found in the Browse menu section; in 2007, this command is located in the Insert section. Inside the first tab are slide footer settings. In the standard version of the program, the ability to insert a header into a slide is not provided. Select all the elements to be displayed. These include:

  • permanent or updated date display
  • slide number
  • content of the footer field
  • the ability to delete the slide number in the "Title Slide" format

Then click on the "Apply" command button located at the top right. Use the "Apply to All" command to insert the items you want into the footer of all selected slides.

Formatting and positioning footer elements

Open the slide master using the menu or via the "View" tab. Please note that the first slide must be selected in the left column where the slides are displayed in thumbnail. This remark especially applies to more recent versions. powerPoint programs... In these versions, the slide template that was last displayed in normal view is always selected. Scroll up the ribbon and select the first slide template. Unlike all others, the selected item will be displayed at an enlarged size.

The right window contains fields for the date, footer, and slide number at the bottom of the page. You can change the appearance and size of both text blocks and the text they contain. Click in the required fields and make any necessary changes using the character string, multifunction bar or menu ribbon.

Recommendation: Fixed date or fixed text can be directly entered into the slide footer field. In order for the slides to display the current date and the correct slide number, use the "Footer and Header" section of the menu.

How to turn a footer into a header

If you want one or more text blocks to be displayed on slides as a header, click on the required text block with the mouse (a four-sided arrow will appear) and hold down. Drag the block with the mouse to the desired position.

The placeholder characters for the header and list should also be moved so that the fields do not overlap (over the margin). Close the slide template by clicking on the special button in the symbol line or through the bookmark. You will return to the previous view again (for example, the Slide Sort view).

Adding a presentation title or organization name on presentation slides can be necessary at times. The best way do this to make it part of the header or footer where you can add the required text and try to make it as unobtrusive as possible.

Typically, footer text includes the name of the organization or labels, such as "Draft" or "DSP" (for official use).
