Settings

Connecting a D-Link router to the World Wide Web is done in two ways: automatic and manual. Most often, settings are carried out according to the first scenario, but there are situations when manual configuration is required.

A workstation is preliminarily prepared: it indicates the receipt of an IP address in automatic mode. This is checked as follows.

Automatic setting

In automatic mode, the user performs the minimum settings for the D-Link Dir model 615. The main work for him is performed by the "Settings Wizard" (English - Wizard). The program is located on the disk supplied with the D-Link version Dir. After launching it, you must specify an Internet service provider from the list of available ones. Then the user enters the credentials provided by the provider: login and password, and also comes up with a new password for wireless communication. The manufacturer offers two options for the user's choice.

Rostelecom

Setting up the D-Link Dir modem for Rostelecom is identical to the previous provider, since the same Internet access protocol is used.

The only difference is the username and password fields. Each provider provides unique names. Everything else is a complete match.

"Beeline"

The Beeline service provider uses a different protocol to connect - L2TP. To use it, you must have a controlling VPN server on the provider's side, the ability of the user's operating system to support the tunneling function in VPN connections. Support is available in all operating systems of the Windows family, not lower than Vista.

Go to the WAN menu, then fill in the following fields:
Connection type - L2TP + "Dynamic IP".
The fields "Username" and "Password" are filled in in accordance with the contract from Beeline.
After entering the data, the information must be saved, and the D-Link Dir must be reloaded.

NetByNet

The Dir router does not have a backup Internet connection function via 3G and 4G USB modems.

Wireless network

Individual user connection settings

The network device does not support any custom settings.

Additionally, a DNS server is configured on Dir, depending on the city of residence. To do this, go to the "Advanced" section, then - "Name Servers". For manual mode, check the box "Manually":

Security settings (antivirus, firewall)

On D-Link Dir, the manufacturer has built in a firewall that protects the home station from network attacks or outside hacking. To correctly configure the firewall, certain knowledge is required. Parental control is set on D-Link Dir in the "Control" section, then - "URL filters":

There are two options to choose from: block access to specified addresses only, or block access to all sites except those listed below. If only a few sites need to be left for a child, the second function is the best choice. Add the necessary sites to the list of exclusions, and prohibit the rest.

Change button function

It is not possible to change the functions of the buttons available on the Dir hardware.

Printer setup

Model 615 from D-Link Dir does not support direct printer connection via USB. But through it, the user is able to connect to a network printer.

Setting up DLNA on the router

D-Link Dir equipment does not have a built-in DLNA server. It is used only as an intermediate link in the DLNA server chain running on a PC and a final media device.

Setting up a VPN server

Model 615 from D-Link Dir does not support the VPN server function. It can only connect to the VPN servers of providers using the PPTP or L2TP protocol.

Setting up a torrent client on a router

D-link Dir does not support the built-in torrent client, it only works with standard external programs.

Possible malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

The most common errors that the user sometimes encounters when working with the D-link Dir model 615 are related to the lack of access to the Internet. The first step to start with in such cases is to reboot the network device.
If this does not help, you should carefully check the cables to which the D-link Dir router is connected. Perhaps there is physical damage, it is worth replacing the faulty cable with another one. You also need to go to the router itself, check its network configurations to the Internet.

Firmware update

The manufacturer has released the D-Link Click'n'Connect mobile application. With it, the phone is connected to the Dir router. Click'n'Connect fully configures D-Link according to its "needs", updates the current version of the hardware revision. It has a built-in automatic update checker.

The list of compatible models is in the application itself in the Google, Apple stores.

Download the app and run it on your own mobile device. A list of available networks will be displayed on the screen. You must select the desired access point. Once connected to D-Link, the app will automatically check for updates. If any are available, it will offer to download it and start the update process. It is enough for the user to confirm his consent, and then wait for the end of the process.

Connect one of its plugs to the router in any of the numbered connectors, bordered by a blue frame, and connect the other to the network card of your computer. Router setup

The setup will take you a little more time, but it is quite simple.

First, make sure that automatic obtaining of IP and DNS addresses is enabled in the local network settings. To do this, hold down the Win and R buttons, and in the pop-up window, write ncpa.cpl and click "OK". You will be presented with a list of available connections, select the one through which the router was connected and go to its properties. In the properties, go to the TCP / IP v4 section and check the boxes in the right places.

After completing this step, we proceed to the direct configuration of the dir 615/620 router for Rostelecom. To do this, you need to open your Internet browser and enter the address 192.168.0.1 there. The page that appears will require you to provide a username and password. By default they are set to admin and admin.

Fill in all fields according to the data below:

connection type - PPPoE;

login - this is your login, which is provided for connecting to the Internet;
password - the password that is provided to connect to the Internet.

After you have filled in all the fields, click on the “Save” button and reload the page. If everything is done correctly, the connection status after refreshing the page should change to “Connected”. Thus, all models of d link routers are configured, including dir-615 and dir-620.

Organization of connection security

By default, yours will be open to other users. In some cases, this is acceptable, but most often certain security measures are taken to restrict access. To do this, after completing the configuration of the d link-615/620 router for Rostelecom, you should set a password for your connection in order to protect it from unwanted connections. To do this, type 192.168.0.1 into your browser again.

On the main page, select “Setup Wizard…”. On the page that opens, you should fill in all the fields as follows:

Setting up Wi-Fi on the router

1. Go to the tab WiFi, select the item " basic settings» and set the desired wireless access point name SSID. The remaining parameters are left as is (see picture). After that, press " Apply».

2. WiFi, select the item " Security Settings". Setting up IP TV

Option 1. Select a port for the set-top box without specifying the VLAN ID

Thus, digital television is set up for Beeline, Dom.Ru, TTK and some branches of Rostelecom. This method is the simplest. Select a section from the menu Start - IPTV Setup Wizard. In the window that opens, click on the port to which the TV set-top box will be connected - it will be marked in green. As a rule, the 4th LAN port is used for this. Click on the button " Save". Now you can connect the set-top box to the 4th LAN port.

Option 2: Explicit VLAN ID

This method is used when multicast traffic is delivered to a subscriber device in a separate virtual network and is divided directly at the terminal equipment. According to this principle, the service is organized in many branches of Rostelecom, Tattelecom. In this case, to configure the port, you need to go to the section Additionally - VLAN. Here we click on the group LAN” and wait until its parameters open.

Once in the group settings, select the port in which the set-top box will be turned on and uncheck it (in our example, we unchecked 3 LAN ports). We click on the button Save and we go back to the section VLAN.

Now you need to click on the button Add". This will create a new group.

In the "Name" field, write the name of the group - IPTV, for example.
Check the "Allow" checkbox.
In the "Type" list, select "Transparent".
In the Vlan ID field, you must specify the identifier of the virtual network. My house uses 1601. Keep in mind that identifiers are used differently on each optical ring and you can only find out which one is used on your home switch in the provider's technical support.
We put a daw "Multicast".
The rest is left by default.
Note only the moment that in the "Untagged ports" list, the port that you removed from the "LAN" group should be checked.

Port Forwarding/Forwarding

We go to Firewall - Virtual servers. We press the button Add.

Name- enter any name.
Interface- choose the interface that is responsible for connecting to the Internet. In our case, this is the pppoe interface.
Protocol- choose the protocol you need.

Internal IP- IP address of the device to which requests will be sent

Checking the Internet Connection Status

Go to Status - Network statistics. In the plate, the Internet connection you created should be green and all columns in this row should be filled.

Saving/restoring router settings

Choose to save the current configuration, To save the current settings of the router The settings file will be saved to the specified location on the hard disk.
To restore settings from a file, you must click and select Loading a previously saved configuration to the device, specify the path to the file with settings, then click the button.
To reset the settings to factory settings, press Factory settings.

How to connect a router

The correct DIR-615 connection scheme so that all connected devices have access to the Internet in the future is as follows:

An Internet cable from Rostelecom is connected to the Internet port on the back of the router.
If you have a TV box, it should be connected to one of the LAN ports
Connect the computer or laptop from which the configuration is being performed with the cable supplied with the router to one of the LAN ports on the Wi-Fi router. The initial setup is more convenient to do via a wired connection. However, if this does not apply to your situation, you can also set up via Wi-Fi.

Well, after the above steps, plug the router into a power outlet.

How to enter the router settings and configure the Rostelecom PPPoE connection

Note: if you previously launched a Rostelecom or High-Speed connection on your computer to access the Internet, turn it off for the duration of the setup and do not connect after it: the router will establish this connection itself. If it is launched on a computer, then the Internet will not work on other devices.

In order to enter the Wi-Fi settings of the D-Link DIR-615 router, launch any browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, on the page that opens you will be prompted to enter your login and password to enter the router settings . (If nothing opens at the specified address, see).

Standard login and password for D-Link DIR-615 M1, K1 and K2 are admin and admin respectively.

After the correct entry, you will find yourself on the main page of the DIR-615 settings (if you are again “thrown” to the login and password entry window, then they were entered incorrectly or changed earlier: if you do not know them, reset the router to factory settings).

At the bottom of the page, click "Advanced Settings", then, in the network section, click on the "WAN" link.

A page with a list of connections will open, which will contain one single connection with a dynamic IP address. Click on it with the mouse, and you will be taken to the settings for this connection, which should be changed to work with Rostelecom Internet.

You must enter the following parameter values:

Connection type - PPPoE (this is what Rostelecom uses)
Username - login for Rostelecom Internet.
Password, password confirmation - password to enter Rostelecom.

Click the "Save" button. After that, the page with the list of connections will open again, and the newly changed one will be "broken". Also at the top of the page you will see an indicator notifying you that the settings you have made need to be saved. Do it.

Now refresh the page with the list of connections and, if everything was done correctly, you will see that the connection status has changed to "Connected". The Internet is now available on the computer.

How to set a password for Wi-Fi on D-Link DIR-615

TV setup Rostelecom (IPTV)

To set up Rostelecom television, on the main page of the router settings (not in advanced settings), select the "IPTV Setup Wizard" item and specify the LAN port to which the TV set-top box is connected. After that, just save your settings.

In previous articles, I began to consider setting up a Dlink DIR-615 WiFi router. So in the article "" we set up a PPPoE connection on our router. And already in the article “”, we set up a LAN and WiFi network, raised a DHCP server and got acquainted with some of the finer settings of this DHCP. Today we will talk about setting up IPTV on the Dlink DIR-615 router. In fact, multicast is configured quite easily (by ticking the right place), but I ran into the following problem. I have an ADSL modem on which two bridge connections VPI / VCI 1/32 for the Internet and VPI / VCI 1/33 for IPTV are raised, and the connection is raised by a WiFi router. But in such a bundle and with such settings, he does not want to show IPTV, although by connecting directly to the modem there are no problems with watching IPTV. Setting the WiFi router Dlink DIR 615 to bridge mode, and the modem router solves the problem (there is Internet and iptv shows). But there is another problem....

So in more detail. As I said, setting the router to bridge mode, and the modem to the router - there is both the Internet and iptv. But, when the Dlink DIR-615 code is configured in bridge mode, the DHCP server is automatically turned off, and via WiFi I need ip addresses to be assigned dynamically.
What I've done? Yes, everything turned out to be easy.

I set the modem to router mode.
I left the local IP address of the modem by default 192.168.1.1

All modem settings are over, now let's move on to setting up the Dlink router itself.

Here we configure our router in router mode, only we choose the type of connection with the provider not PPPoE, but Static IP

In the “IP Address” field we write ip 192.168.1.2, in the “Subnet Mask” field we write 255.255.255.0, in the “Default Gateway” field we write the ip address of our modem 192.168.1.1, in the “Primary DNS Server” field we write 192.168.1.1, in the “Secondary DNS Server” field, enter any DNS that you know (in case the telecom DNS stops working). We save the settings.

At this point, the setup for our Dlink DIR-615 router is almost complete, it remains only to allow multicast to pass through.

Go to the “ADVANCED” menu and select the “ADVANCED NETWORK” submenu. And here in the “Multicast Streams” area, check the box next to “Enable Multicast Streams”. We save the settings.

Everything on this setup is completed. And we have the Internet, and IPTV works (and over WiFi too), and a DHCP server works.
This router holds IPTV very well, since the hardware is quite powerful. My iptv worked for a little more than three hours (then I just turned it off), while one computer worked via LAN and the other via WiFi. The loss of IPTV was not noticed.
