Laser cutting sheet. Cutting metal. Figured laser cutting

laser cutting is one of the most popular methods of influencing organic glass and metal.

This cutting gained popularity due to the jewelry precision of the resulting shapes and details, as well as their high quality, which makes it impossible for roughness, chips, and irregularities that occur during conventional machining. In this case, there is no need for subsequent additional processing of the obtained products.

Laser cutting helps to achieve perfection in creating new shapes, making intricate patterns. This type cutting is widely used in mechanical engineering, allowing you to quickly produce parts without resorting to a complex and lengthy milling process, in the manufacture of home decor elements, body parts for bank terminals, payment systems. Most often it is used in production where cutting accuracy is of great importance to every millimeter.

RamMetPro offers its customers laser cutting services for plexiglass, metal, sheet metal in Moscow.

Benefits of using laser cutting:

  1. Laser cutting of plexiglass allows you to maintain the transparency of the material, preventing the appearance of rough edges, chips, cracks.
  2. This type of cutting allows you to work with any shapes, volumes and create perfectly accurate images.
  3. Laser cutting is much more economical, better and more efficient than any other metal cutting method.
  4. Such cutting allows you to make cuts on the metal perfectly smooth and accurate, prevents dents, and reduces the influence of the human factor on the result.

Laser cutting of metal is used in machine production, in the manufacture of decorative elements for fences and railings, and makes it possible to manufacture perforated sheets in a short time.

How can sheet metal laser cutting in Moscow save you time and money? The fact is that at a low level of costs, this method has a high processing speed of the material. This speed is provided by a powerful laser beam. The laser allows you to cut metal with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. The result is high productivity and low material consumption.

The technology of laser cutting of metal lies in the fact that the laser beam heats and burns through the metal. However, the temperature effect on the material itself is minimal, which allows not to deform the metal.

Compared to other methods of metal processing (stamping, machining, plasma cutting), the laser shows greater accuracy and produces less material waste.

Metal laser cutting is suitable for processing carbon steel, aluminum, as well as some alloys. In addition, this method can be used on non-rigid and easily deformable parts. The thermophysical properties of the material do not matter, since the laser beam is focused at one point.

Perforation of metal by laser cutting

Recently, laser cutting with perforation has been in great demand in Moscow. This method of metal processing is performed both for decorative and practical purposes. So, perforation of sheets facilitates the weight of metal structures. Sometimes perforation is necessary for the assembly of parts or ventilation of a prefabricated product. Perforation of metal by laser cutting is required in the manufacture of grilles for heating radiators, electrical cabinets, air ducts, etc.

Decorative perforation allows you to create real metal masterpieces. For example, in this way you can make art panels or decorate the metal fence of the site. You can order these metal laser cutting services from our company.

What determines the cost of laser cutting metal?

Laser cutting of metal has another important advantage - affordable cost. The RamMetPro company offers laser cutting services for metal sheets made of steel, aluminum and alloys. The cost of work depends on the thickness of the steel, the length of the cutting contour and the volume of the order.

The modern technology for processing rolled metal, which uses CNC equipment, is called laser cutting of metal. This method differs in high accuracy. It is used for blanks having a thickness in the range of 2-30 mm. After processing with a powerful laser, surfaces are obtained that do not require finishing.

"SteelMetall" offers metal cutting services with a laser at a bargain price. We work with both large and single orders.

Technology Features

The principle of operation of the laser is as follows: the area to which the beam is directed is heated to the melting temperature, as a result of which the material begins to melt and the phase boundary shifts inward. At the same time, the temperature does not stop rising, so the second stage begins - evaporation. After such processing, it is possible to obtain a perfectly even edge, without deformation. To give the product its final shape, it is not necessary to clean weld or perform other finishing work.

Advantages of cutting metal with a laser

This method has a wide range of advantages. Among them:

  • Maximum accuracy in processing parts of any shape, including volumetric and flat, as well as non-rigid and low-deformable workpieces.
  • Versatility. The technology is used for almost any rolled metal products.
  • Careful effect on metal. The method is unique in that it does not affect the workpiece with current. Also, when using it, there is no mechanical effect, therefore, using a laser, you can also cut other materials that are fragile and small in thickness - wood, leather, rubber, plywood, plexiglass, and so on.
  • Ease of use. Laser cutting of metal is performed automatically. To cut the workpiece as required by the customer, it is only necessary to have a drawing of the finished product, which is transferred to the computer system of the CNC machine.
  • Optimization production processes. The operation of the laser machine can be adjusted to auto mode which will reduce labor costs without sacrificing quality finished products. Waste volumes when using this technology are minimized.
  • Wide scope. With the help of laser cutting of metal, you can even create a decorative design of the workpiece: patterns, engravings, and so on.

This method is best suited for those customers who are interested in high speed production of metal products without the need for their subsequent processing.

Application of technology

Cutting metal with a laser is used in the manufacture of various products. The method is used in instrument making, aircraft industry, automotive industry, and the medical field. It is used to make:

  • auto parts;

Cutting sheet and other shaped rolled products is one of the most important operations in the creation of metal structures.

It is this operation that largely determines the quality of the product and its cost. For all the time, many technologies have been invented and put into operation, which are used in cutting sheet and other profiles.

The essence of cutting metal

Cutting metal, regardless of its shape, is a procurement operation. It is at the stage of its implementation that the future details of the metal structure acquire features. On the machine-building enterprises, and in the production complexes of other industries, there are entire procurement units equipped with a variety of equipment designed to form blanks, and even finished parts. It all depends on the equipment and tools used.

The term metal cutting can be interpreted as follows - this is a method of placing blanks on a sheet. The shape may be in the form of a rectangle or any other. When cutting metal, a certain amount of returnable and non-returnable waste appears. Their volume is directly dependent on the technology used for cutting.

Types of waste when cutting metals

Waste from harvesting operations can be divided into two classes:

  • technological;
  • cutting.

The first type of waste includes the metal that is lost due to technological processing. For example, when using gas cutting, this is a flash, in the form of chips removed from the surface of the workpiece during turning or milling. Waste refers to that part of the metal that will no longer be used in the future.

Wastes from cutting sheet metal include those residues that are formed by the shape of the workpiece and the lack of multiplicity when marking the cutting. The former is understood as that part of the metal that is located between the outer contour of one or more blanks and a certain contour that outlines the dimensions of the blanks. The second ones are those that are formed when comparing sheet sizes and cutting blanks. These wastes appear if the dimensions of the sheet do not match the sum of the dimensions of the blanks located along its sides.

The main methods of cutting metal

Manufacturers, in order to optimally cut the material and minimize the amount of waste, seek to choose the best way to cut sheet material or rolled products based on the technologies used for cutting metal into blanks. For example, when using circular shears or a gas cutter, the location of the workpieces anywhere on the sheet is acceptable. While, when cutting on guillotine shears, certain restrictions must be followed. The workpiece must be placed in such a way that it was possible to realize straight cuts along or across the sheet and straight cuts at an angle.

If it is necessary to process a large batch of blanks, it makes sense to use a combined method. It lies in the fact that blanks having different shapes are placed in a rectangle with minimized dimensions. These rectangles are then used to better fill the sheet. Formation of a dimensional sequence. By moving these shapes over the surface, an improved configuration shape is obtained.

A method of better filling the short side of the sheet - this reduces the amount of waste caused by the lack of fold. The rest of the sheet will be somewhat shorter than along the long side. Blanks must be selected in such a way that their dimensions allow optimal filling of the smaller side of the sheet. To mark along the length of the side, do the same work.

The essence of the method of forming dimensional sequences is as follows - the blanks are placed on the sheet from large to small.

Based on the work carried out, a cutting map is drawn up. Then, the required amount of materials (sheet or other rolled products) is determined. By the way, this is the main document that should be at the workplace of the harvesting machine operator.

From thick paper or cardboard prepare templates for blanks that need to be cut. The templates are placed on the sheet and by moving and combining them with each other, the optimal cutting of the sheet material is obtained.

The history of this equipment, according to official data, dates back to the time of the French Revolution. At that time, it was used to eliminate "enemies of the people" and only many years later, it was found another use, namely, in cutting sheet metal. With the use of some devices on the guillotine (mechanical scissors), it is possible to cut rolled products, fittings.

Sheet cutting occurs during a series of operations.

  1. The sheet is placed on the desktop. WITH back side the machine is equipped with a ruler on which the size of the workpiece to be cut is set.
  2. After the sheet is exposed, the machine operator starts it. The front plate presses the sheet to the surface of the table, the second one, on which the knives are installed, then lowers and, under its own weight, cuts the sheet into the set size.

It should be noted that if the knives are properly sharpened and installed with a minimum error, then the cut is obtained without burrs and jams. At the same time, curvature will not occur on the sheet, since the cut occurs in the entire length of the sheet at the same time.

Equipment of this class is equipped with electric motors. For some brands, for example, H177, the movement of the front and rear plates is carried out using a mechanism based on a fairly large flywheel. On such machines, it is permissible to cut sheets up to 12 - 14 mm, of course, the thickness depends on the properties and grade of the material.

There are machines of this class, in which the plates are moved using a hydraulic mechanism. But unlike mechanical devices, they require careful treatment, constant monitoring of the level and condition of the oil, etc. On such machines, it is permissible to cut materials up to 30 mm thick.

Modern guillotine shears, equip digital technology setting dimensions, the ability to adjust the cutting force and other options. There are also machines equipped with numerical control systems. Equipment of this class performs metal cutting with minimal errors.

To create products from tin (galvanized metal), hand scissors are used. Depending on the design, they can cut sheets of tin with a width of two or more meters and a thickness of up to 20 mm.

There is another type of guillotine - saber. They are also used in handicraft workshops or small industries.

By the way, guillotine-type scissors have found their application not only in the manufacture of metal structures, but also in printing, with their help they cut large stacks of paper.

Metal cutting with band and circular saws

For cutting metal, tools such as circular saws are also used. This tool is used for processing large workpieces. It should be noted that when working with such a tool, the use of a fairly large amount of physical strength is required. The working body of this tool is a disk made of tool steel.

This tool is most effective when working with steel and other materials, including non-ferrous metals and alloys. Most often, this method of metal processing is chosen for processing sheet material, pipes. The cut is performed directly, but, possibly, its execution at a given angle.

The disc tool is characterized by high performance, safety and easy operation when cutting complex workpieces. This tool has been widely popular among both manufacturers and home craftsmen for a long time. This is also due to its availability. There are many models of circular saws on the market, including stationary ones, and everyone can buy them.

Another, no less popular, cutting method is the processing of blanks on a band saw. The working body of this equipment is a band saw that works like a regular hacksaw. The band saw blade is closed in a ring and has a large length. That is, in fact, a band saw is a ring, on one edge of which there are teeth. For the production of a band saw, carbon steel alloys are used, but there are also bimetallic models.

The band saw set includes two pulleys that rotate from an electric power plant.

Machines of this class represent a lot of possibilities in the processing of bars, shaped profiles, pipes. On machines of some brands, it is permissible to perform not only straight cuts, but also figured ones.

A variety of models are presented on the market, ranging from single-pedestal machines operated manually to gantry-type machines operating under computer control.

Punching presses

The main purpose of this equipment is the cutting of metal blanks. Presses of this class are characterized by high precision and a wide range of punched holes.

Perforated presses are used to make perforated sheets. The limiting dimensions of processed sheets depend on the brand of the machine used.

The design of punch presses ensures high productivity in the manufacture of finished products.

oxy-fuel cutting

Oxy-fuel cutting can be attributed to the most economical ways of cutting metal.

To ensure a metal cut, a mixture of oxygen and combustible gas (propane, acetylene, etc.) is used.

The cutting sequence consists of the following steps:

  1. An open flame heats the metal to the ignition temperature.
  2. After that, a stream of oxygen is supplied to the heated place, which oxidizes the metal.
  3. By moving the cutter, a narrow cut is created from which slag must be removed.

The quality of the cut is directly related to the brand of material, surface quality, metal thickness, cutting speed.

This technology allows you to cut low-alloy steels with a profile thickness of up to several tens of centimeters.

Despite the fact that new technologies for cutting metal are constantly emerging, gas-flame technology remains the most economical.

Moreover, with a metal thickness of 900 mm, there is no alternative to this technology.

Plasma cutting of metal

In order to understand how the plasma cut metal installation works, it will be necessary to remember what plasma is - it is an ionized gas that forms neutral molecules and charged particles.

Plasma is generated when the gas is heated to ultrahigh temperatures, and its ionization occurs. Due to the movement of gas molecules, it has a certain electrical conductivity.

Cutting metal using plasma is one of the methods for cutting metal blanks. In this case, the plasma beam acts as a working body.

The principle of operation, technology and equipment for plasma cutting of metal

An electric arc is activated between the electrode and the nozzle. A gas passes through the nozzle - oxygen or air; its working pressure is 5 - 8 at. When the gas and the electric arc come into contact, it heats up to a temperature of up to 30,000 °C. Thus, the gas jet is transformed into a plasma beam. Which performs the function of cutting.

A distinctive feature of this method of cutting metal is that the metal does not burn out, as, for example, with flame cutting, but simply evaporates and this requires additional measures to protect personnel and the environment.

In practice, two types of equipment for plasma-air cutting of metal are used - manual and automated. At the first stage, metal cutting operations are performed without the use of any automation tools, and at first glance, it resembles a gas-flame cutting method.

Automated equipment operates under the control of the CNC system and all the work of the operator is to right time turn on the control program.

The machine itself is a portal-type installation, moving, for example, along the X axis and a cutting head that moves along the Y axis. Thus, metal cutting can start from anywhere on the sheet, while the cutting accuracy is 0.2 mm.

Unlike machines for mechanical cutting of workpieces, sheet cutting occurs using special software systems. Their use minimizes the amount of waste. On some forms, the amount of waste may not exceed 1 - 5% of the sheet area.

Plasma-air cutting of metal blanks guarantees the production of parts in strict accordance with the requirements of working documentation.

The disadvantages of plasma cutting equipment include the following:

  1. As the thickness of the metal grows, a slope appears from the outer edge to the inner part of the sheet, this is caused by the scattering of the plasma beam, this must be taken into account when marking the sheet of metal.
  2. Incorrect setting of cutting conditions - current, air (gas) consumption, working speed of the head, can lead to an increase in the amount of applied consumable– nozzles, electrodes.
  3. The installation of such equipment requires careful air preparation, that is, it is necessary to install dehumidifiers directly in front of it.
  4. During operation, sagging is formed at the cut site, which, if necessary, can be removed using an angle grinder. In general, if the workpiece is made for welding, these influxes can be ignored.

There are designs with two or more moving cutting heads. This design increases labor productivity and reduces the cost of blanks.

It should be noted that the cost of a workpiece obtained on plasma cutting equipment is lower than that of an identical part obtained on mechanical equipment.

The concept of laser cutting of metal

Laser cutting of metal is considered no less progressive. This technology uses the power of a laser beam and, as a rule, it is used in mass production of products from almost any material, including non-metals.

The laser beam, which is controlled by a special software package, provides energy concentration sufficient for cutting materials of any thickness and composition.

During the cut, the material exposed to the laser beam is melted, vaporized or blown out by compressed air.

Cutting with a laser is characterized by the fact that there is no mechanical impact on the material and only minimal deformation phenomena can occur during processing. The absence of any mechanical impact makes it possible to process easily deformable or thin materials, for example, blanks for a ventilation system, where the metal thickness can be only 0.5 - 0.7 mm.

Software control of cutting metal with a laser allows you to work on obtaining complex contours.

By the way, in recent years, technological equipment has been developed and introduced, which allows you to cut pipes, profiles, etc.

Depending on the tasks to be solved in the manufacture of blanks, in various areas industrial production metal cutting can be performed with varying degrees of accuracy. Hundredths of a millimeter, necessary in precision engineering, automotive and aviation, are not necessary for construction with tolerances of 1 mm or more.

But in any case, precise cutting of metal will reduce the complexity of manufacturing, since finishing operations by milling will no longer be needed.

The plasma cutting device consists of:

  • Plasmatron, which converts the energy of the electric arc into thermal energy of the plasma;
  • Power supply;
  • Compressor or gas cylinder to provide a jet of gas or air mixture

Plasma cutting requires high skill, it is quite difficult to ensure a constant gap between the nozzle and the surface of the sheet, the uneven movement of the cutter can also lead to sagging at the edges and the appearance of dross.

Laser cutting of sheet metal

Provided by focused radiation with a concentration of thermal energy in the cutting area. The result is high-precision thin cuts that allow you to cut many parts with a laser with minimal gaps between markings. The cutting process is robotic. The laser performs complex movements according to the electronic drawing embedded in the software control without the slightest deviation along the contour.

The advantages of laser cutting include:

  • Reproduction of closed curvilinear contours of any complexity;
  • Saving material due to the dense arrangement of parts on the sheet and program cutting with a minimum probability of error;
  • The absence of mechanical and prolonged thermal effects, the edges of the parts are not deformed, there are no tint colors;
  • Edge perpendicularity, low surface roughness.

The negative options are:

  • The maximum possible cutting thickness is 20mm;
  • Decreased productivity when cutting highly reflective metal such as polished stainless steel, reducing laser power.

Laser cutting of sheet steel is widely used in the manufacture of parts with the highest requirements for geometric accuracy and repeatability, in the automotive industry, precision instrumentation, as well as to create exclusive decorative elements, carved grilles and holders.

Plasma and laser cutting of sheet metal has recently become relatively widespread, any developments, specific skills, experience and just theoretical considerations would be interesting to discuss together. We hope to see your opinion in the comments.
