Star Wars Trade Federation or Separatist Invasion. Trade Federation (Star Wars) Trade Federation Star Wars Tech

Trade Federation - was the only one trade organization, whose interests in the Republican Senate were represented by their own senator. Such before the Stark hyperspace conflict was Nute Gunray, and after his rise, Lott Dod.

In the last decades of the Republic's existence, the Neimoidians decided to take advantage of the strengthening of the Outer Rim pirate clans in order to legally arm their ships. The Senate tried to oppose this, but in the end, numerous checks did not reveal anything illegal. With the help of bribes, corrupt Republican officials of the Federation succeeded in as soon as possible create an efficient fleet.

In the aftermath of the Stark Hyperspace War, Nute Gunray became Viceroy of the Trade Federation, and during the 33 BBY Eriadu Economic Summit, virtually all members of the Viceroy's Directorate were slaughtered. After that, all posts in the Directorate were given to the Neimoidians who supported Gunray.

Around this time, the Trade Federation intervened in the course of the Hack War, becoming an ally of the insect-like race of Yam'ria, which was threatened with complete defeat by the Kalishians. With the help of the Federation, the Yam'riy reached out to the Senate, who sent a Jedi team into Abbaji's system. The Jedi decided that the Kalishians were guilty.

Trade Federation occupation of Naboo

In the end, the Republic began to make attempts to somehow limit the influence of the Federation, and the first such attempt was the decision to establish new system taxation of trade routes. In response, the Trade Federation blocked the planet of Naboo with its fleet. Part of the Federation Directorate joined the Occupation Council, which operated battle droids from the capital of Nabu, Thida. These actions of the Federation caused another scandal in the Senate, and served as an indirect reason for the resignation of Chancellor Valorum, who, at an extraordinary meeting of the Senate dedicated to the Naboo issue, Queen Amidala put forward a vote of no confidence.

The blockade of Naboo ended in failure for the Federation, but it has not lost its influence despite numerous legal proceedings. Nute Gunray continued to be her Viceroy, successfully overcoming four trials.

Clone wars

When Count Dooku began creating the Confederation of Independent Systems, the Trade Federation readily agreed to join. Gunray demanded only one thing from Dooku - the head of Padmé Naberrie. Gunray formally agreed to join the Confederation shortly before the Battle of Jonosis.

During the Clone Wars, the Trade Federation was the main source of funding for the Confederation. Her army also became the basis for the army of droids, placed under the command of General Grievous.

Towards the end of the Clone Wars, some of the major Federation worlds were taken over by Republic forces. During the Battle of Kato Neimodya, Viceroy Nutu Gunray struggled to escape the forces of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

Last years

Following the death of Nut Gunray on Mustafar in 19 BBY, Sentepet Findos became Viceroy of the Trade Federation, who was arrested by the Imperial forces shortly after his election. He was forced to sign an agreement that placed all Trade Federation resources at the disposal of the Emperor. Formally, this was the end of the Trade Federation, but the federation was completely absorbed by the imperial companies only a few years later.

Companions

The first Trade Federation freighters were built at the shipyards owned by the Hersh-Kessel Drive Corporation. Sometime before 33 BBY, Tagge became a trade partner of the Federation, and several representatives of this company joined the directorate. After the Eriadu trade summit and the death of most of the directors, the Tagge House, which owned the company, withdrew its representatives, deciding never to deal with the Trade Federation again. For Naboo. The Trade Federation also collaborated with Haor Chal Engineering, owned by the Xi Char (Zi Char) sect, and with Baktoid Corporation, a Techno Union. Through the mediation of Darth Sidious, the Federation established contacts with Geonosian Industries

Description:

Immediately after the adoption of Resolution BR-0371 taxing the hyperspace paths in the Outer and Middle Regions, the Trade Federation (TF) began preparing a retaliatory strike. Unbeknownst to the regulatory authorities of the Republic, TF has increased the number of battle droids. The TF did not have its own warships. It was economically unprofitable to issue an order not to design ships to third-party planets and organizations and could attract attention from the law enforcement agencies of the Republic. Therefore, the leadership of the TF decided to arm the massive LH-3210 container ships, which were used by the Federation in large numbers.

Previously loaded with all kinds of goods, now container ships were filled with a variety of weapons and equipment. In the massive "ring" hold, the number of supporting frames for the suspension of fighters was increased, hidden laser batteries appeared on the sides of the ship, 16 transmit-receive antennas were installed to control the droids, and the hull was reinforced with layers of armor. Less than six months later, the once peaceful container ships turned into well-armed warships.

The belt covering the central sphere is occupied by hangars and warehouses. This layout went to the ship from the civilian past. The brain center of the ship is the central sphere. It contains the main reactor, the captain's bridge, cabins for non-imoidians and guests, conference rooms ... etc. The "neck" of the battleship is a docking compartment of the sphere with the rest of the ship, since the sphere is able to independently move in outer space and even land on the planetary surface.

A test of strength for TF was the blockade of the planet Naboo - the homeland of Chancellor Palpatine, who initiated the adoption of resolution BR-0371. The Battle of Naboo revealed many of the ship's shortcomings, inherited from its civilian past. The weak reactor was unable to provide energy for all the weapons, which, by the way, were installed very poorly, allowing for the presence of numerous "dead zones". In addition, the ship had numerous vulnerabilities. The projectors of the protective field, located on the surface of the central sphere, were very vulnerable to attacks by fighters and bombers, which, "diving" under the shields, could directly attack the projectors. Another weak point was the hangar, the entrance to which was wide, vulnerable and unprotected.

The disadvantage of a ship as an amphibious assault ship is the presence of one droid control center. Since droids were the backbone of the Trade Federation army, the control station came under attack in the first place. For economic reasons (trademark Neimoidian economy), the Trade Federation government, during the conflict over Naboo, decided to equip only one in twentieth ships with a communications center. This led to the fact that it was not difficult to calculate the control ship, even visually: a characteristic cluster of long-distance communication antennas stood out on the surface of the central sphere, and 16 massive transmit-receive antennas were clearly visible on the hull itself. Disabling such a center could completely stop the invasion of the planet, both terrestrial and space. Actually, this is exactly what happened during the Battle of Naboo.

Since Naboo, TF has taken this fact into account by increasing the autonomy of its droids, designing mobile command posts and equipping all its battleships with antennas. Although there were also punctures that clearly demonstrated the shortcomings mass use droid starfighters. One such failure occurred during a secret Sith mission to destroy Outbound Flight, successfully completed in 27 BBY. In this mission, the squadron commanded by Doriana (using the pseudonym Stratis) and Vice-Lord Siv Kava included two ships of the type in question - the Keeper and the Darkvenge. All ships were provided by the Trade Federation and did not stand out from their brethren in any way. The ships arrived at Outbound's interception point and waited for the target to appear, but instead stumbled upon a small Chiss squadron under Thrawn's command. The blue-skinned naval commander demanded that the squadron commander report on the purpose of the visit and announced that they were in Chiss space. But the swaggering Neimoidian was not even going to answer in the face of "savage" and "pirate" (that is how he described Thrawn) and ordered the release of fighters. Thrawn, thanks to the stories of Jorj Car’das, an unwitting guest of the Chiss, already represented in general outline what kind of fighters were sent against him. He ordered the droid starfighters to retreat within range and waited. The TF ships were also waiting. It was then that Thrawn identified the main flaw in the TF naval doctrine. He sent one heavy fighter some distance from the main squadron, ordering it at equal intervals and one course to approach the TF ships and withdraw whenever fighters were directed against it. This incomprehensible (for Doriana and the arrogant Neimoidian) leapfrog continued for some time. While these "dances in space" lasted, the electronic warfare specialists on Thrawn's flagship were deciphering the control signals that the fighter droids received from the control station, highlighting in them repeating sections of code. Thrawn then moved forward, decisively attacking the Neimoidian ships. Siv Kav sent hundreds of fighters, wanting to crush the Chiss like an insect, but instead of attacking Thrawn's ships, the fighter droids flew ... in a completely different direction, acting in accordance with the order given from the board of Thrawn's ship, which broadcast the same signal for the fighters that they received when attacking the lonely one " dancing "fighter. Then it was more fun. Thrawn parried the second wave of fighters with active jamming on all frequencies, and immobilized some of the fighters with "Konor nets", which disabled the electronics. A significant part of the Guardian's air group, due to active interference, did not receive signals from the control station and could not leave the carrier ship. Simply put, the droids were at a loss. A few minutes later, exactly following the program embedded in them, the fighters self-destructed, destroying the "Guardian" along with them. Other ships of the squadron were also killed. Thrawn spared only the flagship. This battle showed how unreliable the practice of using fighter droids and a poorly armed carrier ship is, and how important means are in space combat. electronic warfare(Electronic warfare).

During the Clone Wars, ships of this type took part in many battles of the war, acting mainly as aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships. After the Clone Wars, these excellent ships continued to be used in the fleets of various corporations and planetary governments. At least one modernized LH-3210 is known to have been used by the Alliance fleet. This ship took part in the Battle of Despire, delivering more than 500 fighters to the battlefield. A number of these ships were acquired by wealthy shipowners in the Corporate Sector. Several LH-3210s even ended up in the fleet of the Autarky Corporate Sector (KSA). True, it is not known in what role it was used by the KSA, as an aircraft carrier, landing craft or battleship.

Note

In Starships of the Galaxy, without a shadow of a doubt, these ships are called battleships. But if you look at their rather meager artillery and very impressive hangars, in which they managed to accommodate 1,500 fighters, and an equally impressive number of troops transported, this ship would like to be called an attack aircraft carrier in which the functions of a large landing ship (large landing ship) are successfully combined. Note that it was in the role of an aircraft carrier and a large landing ship that this ship was mainly used in the Clone Wars.

It so happened that some of the most popular creatures in the world of Star Wars are Twi'leks. They are not included in the number of central characters, but at the same time they appear in almost every "episode", in many books, they are also well known to avid computer gamers.
The official Star Wars literature claims that there are very few creatures that can match the gracefulness of a Twi'lek woman on the move, and it's hard to argue with that. For the beautiful girls themselves, beauty and grace are more a punishment than a reason for joy. Because the native people, without a twinge of conscience, sell them into slavery. The slave trade is one of the external income items of their world of Ryloth, almost on a par with the trade in ryll, a mineral and drug produced on the planet.
A characteristic feature of the Twi'lek anatomy is the presence of head tails - lekku. They are quite sensitive, flexible, and with the help of them Twi'leks can even secretly communicate. The second distinctive feature of the race can be considered the variety of colors and skin tones of Twi'leks.
The Tusken In contrast to the disgusting Twi'lek, the Tusken, also known as the Tusken Outlaws or the Sand People of Tatooine, completely hide their bodies under a mask and a pile of rags. To see Tusken's face is a terrible and deadly insult. The sex of the child, recorded at birth, is taken into account only at the conclusion of weddings, at which during a special ritual the blood of two sand people and the blood of their bow are mixed. And only after that, in a separate tent, the newlyweds can see each other's true appearance.
The Tuskens have a truly mystical connection with their bows, huge animals that vaguely resemble our mammoths. Tusken, who has lost his bow, becomes an outcast, and the Banta, whose rider died, goes mad, and she is forever released into the sands.
The attitude of the Tusken to storytellers who pass stories from mouth to mouth is interesting. The one and only mispronounced word in the story is the death sentence for the narrator. In general, sand people are extremely aggressive, often for no apparent reason. Their very name "Tusken robbers" appeared after they brutally destroyed the Tusken fort, built by the settlers on their sacred land.
The Hutts Speaking about the inhabitants of Tatooine, it is impossible not to mention the Hutts, although by and large only one Hutt is known on Tatooine. But what a! Long-lived, arrogant, dastardly, ruthless and vindictive Hutts hold in their hands a huge part of the criminal world of the galaxy.
Hutts have incredibly muscular bodies despite lacking a skeleton. Plus, their skin is resistant to most weapons and all but the most toxic chemicals. Internal organs protected by multiple layers of muscle and fat. Hutts are hermaphrodites with both male and female reproductive organs. They are able to eat almost anything that is even a little edible, but they especially love live food.
A newborn Hutt weighs less than 100 grams. For the first 50 years, they grow and feed on milk inside a special sac in the body of their parent. When they emerge from the bag, they already weigh up to 70 kilograms and are about a meter long. Adult Hutts weigh up to 500 kilograms. The Hutts are one of the longest-lived races in the galaxy, with some surviving thousands of years.
Neimoidians In addition to the Hutts, the Trade Federation, led by the Neimoidians, was also engaged in not quite legal activities for a long time. Although in financial matters they can be bold and aggressive; in fact, the Neimoidians are cowardly. The first years of their lives contribute to this mentality in many ways. Neimoidians are born as larvae, which are placed in closed hives with limited number food, clearly insufficient for the survival of all. Of course, there is fierce competition in the hives, as a result of which most of the weak individuals die. When the larvae reach the age of seven, they emerge from the hives, learning the fear of death and developing storage abilities.
In Neimoidian society, evidence of wealth is an indicator of personal status. Therefore, Neimoidians wear fancy clothes: expensive dresses and fancy headdresses. High-ranking officials can spend unimaginable sums on things like a useless mechanical chair that only emphasizes status and indulges laziness.
Initially, the Neimoidians looked slightly different and were supposed to look like battle droids.
Geonosians But when creating the Geonosians, the authors proceeded from considerations of the similarity of battle droids and their owners. The landscapes and structures of Geonosis are based on impressions of the huge termite mounds found in Africa.
There are two types of Geonosians: wingless drones, mainly engaged in menial work, and winged aristocrats, including royal warriors who serve as scouts and ensure the safety of hives.
Despite the simple structure of the brain, Geonosians have outstanding abilities in the field of mechanics and mechanical engineering, which, however, does not prevent them from treating violence and death as entertainment.
Geonosian society is strictly caste, but some ambitious individuals strive for social growth. For them, gladiatorial battles are held, in which the survivor climbs the social ladder or earns enough money to leave the planet.
Mon Calamari and Quarrens If the Geonosians evoke in us stable associations with insects, then the inhabitants of the planet Mon Calamari, on the contrary, are associated with mollusks (to say the least, with squids). By the way, the very name Mon Calamari appeared as a result of a joke by a designer who remembered his breakfast - calamari salad.
Two races live on the same planet at the same time: Mon Calamari and Quarren. The former are idealists and dreamers, the latter are pragmatists and realists. The Quarrens developed in the depths of the planet's ocean, therefore, when they rose to the surface and were surprised to find more advanced relatives, the first thing they did was attacked.
Calamari at that time already had more developed intelligence and technology. When it became obvious that after some time they would completely exterminate their smaller brothers, the humanity of the Kalamari prompted them to a grandiose social experiment. They took the young Quarrens and raised them in accordance with the foundations of civilization, teaching them mathematics, philosophy and other sciences. When the wise youngster returned to his parents, instead of hatred, he felt respect for those living on the surface.
Mon Calamari are coastal dwellers. They develop new ideas, and depth-loving Quarrens mine metals and bring these ideas to life. One of the results of the implementation of the advanced ideas of the Calamari is a unique fleet of research vessels.
Mon Calamari are capable of descending without special devices to a depth of 30 meters. Theoretically, they can stay under water for as long as they want, but due to psychological and physiological reasons, they cannot rest there. Quarrens, on the other hand, can descend 300 meters without devices, but after deep dives they are forced to emerge slowly, due to the need to adapt to pressure drops. Quarren have the ability to change their skin color, but usually only resort to it in mating rituals.
Gungans Another double-breathing species that loves to live close to water or under water are the Gungans. Unfortunately, after watching "The First Episode", many have an impression of all the Gungans according to their brightest, but not at all typical representative of them - Jar Jar Binks.
In fact, the Gungans are not so clumsy, although thanks to the cartilaginous skeleton they are very mobile. Their bodies are superbly adapted for swimming. They have long, muscular tongues, easily hidden stalked eyes, and four-fingered arms. Their large, powerful teeth are designed to gnaw at the shells of the crustaceans that form the bulk of the Gungan diet. The two long ears, haila, are also used to convey emotions such as anger, friendliness, and fear. Gungans hatch as tadpoles, which grow limbs in a month and then can walk on their own.
There are at least two known varieties of Gungans. The first are the Otoll Gungans: tall, lanky, with stalked eyes and long ears. The second are the Ankura Gungans: an older race, shorter in stature, stocky, with shorter ears and muzzles and less protruding eyes.
Kaminoans Talking About Natives aquatic worlds, it is impossible not to mention the creators of the clone army - the Kaminoans. When the ice age on the planet Kamino ended and its oceans overflowed from melted ice, the locals had to adapt to the changed conditions. On the brink of extinction, the Kaminoans perfected technology and cloning and took control of reproduction to survive. The struggle for existence has made the Kaminoans a race of ascetics who reject material values common to other cultures. They are far from galactic events and do not care about the consequences of their own experiments.
As the only sapient race on a water-covered planet, the Kaminoans have aquatic traits such as a fin on their heads and pale, cold skin. The appearance of the Kaminoans was to some extent inspired by the classic concept of aliens, formed over the years of development of ufology. To soften this not-so-friendly look, the designers added the features of small seals to the Kaminoans to make them more innocent and naive.
Rodians There is another race appearance which echoes terrestrial ideas about aliens - these are Rodians, creatures with pimpled green skin, faceted eyes and flexible snout. Rodians also have pointed ears, small antenna horns on the head, and long fingers ending in suckers. Greedy and immoral, Rodians are not trusted or respected by other races. On their home planet, they were the most aggressive hunters, and when they almost exterminated all other living species, they began to hunt each other in gladiatorial battles. Out into the galaxy, many Rodians became bounty hunters.
Despite the fact that the history of the Rodians is marked by numerous and brutal inter-clan wars, they have a rich culture. Realizing that they were moving towards self-destruction, the Rodians decided to act out violence on the stage without killing anyone. The early plays were little more than feigned carnage, but later generations turned Rodian drama into art. The Rodians are top-notch drama actors, and their acting is prized across the galaxy.
Kel-Dors and Zabraks Rodians are known to many for their computer games. In the same way, two more races gained popularity: Kel-Dors and Zabraks. Both of these races are featured in the films as members of the Jedi Council. In addition, it is hardly news to anyone that the charming Darth Maul is not a man, but a Zabrak disfigured by tattoos.
Kel-dor are adapted to the helium-rich atmosphere of the planet Doreen, and any other atmosphere is lethal to them. Therefore, outside their homeworld, they are forced to wear breathing masks. The Kel-dor have a long and honorable tradition in the knowledge of the Force - their descendants have become Jedi over the past six thousand years. Balanced, kindhearted and sympathetic, the qel-dor believe in quick and simple justice. However, they often become not only Jedi and diplomats, but also merchants and even bounty hunters.
Roughly the same can be said about Zabraki. However, it should be added that among them there are many scouts and ordinary soldiers. There is nothing that, in the opinion of Zabrak, he is beyond his powers. At the same time, the Zabrak lacks a sense of superiority over other intelligent beings. In addition to pride, they have highly developed instincts to explore and colonize territories. Therefore, in addition to their homeworld - Iridonia - they have a lot of colonies.
Wookiees While the Zabrak are easily recognizable by their horns, the furry Wookiee giants are not to be confused with anyone. Wookiees are very dedicated to the family. They value morality, courage, compassion, and loyalty. Very few Wookiees willingly betray their friends or family. A typical Wookiee custom is the duty of life — an oath of allegiance to anyone who saves a Wookiee's life.
The planet Kashyyyk, home of the Wookiees, is covered in lush vegetation. Wookiees live in the upper tiers of their endless forests, in houses located high on the branches of huge trees. Wookiee cities are hundreds of huts connected by wooden platforms, suspension bridges and ropes. Although Wookiees may seem primitive, they are really tech-savvy and learn easily how to fly starships, repair instruments, and use modern weapons.
The average Wookiee is more than two meters tall, and the life expectancy is several times that of a human. In addition to physical strength and keen senses, Wookiees have good regenerative abilities: serious wounds heal on them in a few days. Wookiees also have claws, which are used only for climbing trees. The notion of honor prohibits Wookiees from using their claws in battle.
Ewoks Star Wars originally intended the Wookiee tribes to unite to drive the technologically superior Imperials out of their forest world. As a result, Lucas transformed the Wookiees into Ewoks for such a scene in Episode 6. In the first sketches, the Ewoks looked very ferocious, and only then they became cute fur balls.
The Ewoks have a rich and interesting culture. They believe in a wide pantheon of gods and spirits. Their religion is centered mainly around the giant trees of Endor, and the main Ewok deity is the Great Tree, who knows everything and watches over the forest. At the birth of an Ewok, a tree is planted, in close spiritual connection with which the newborn will be until the end of his life.
Although the Ewoks are proficient in the primitive devices that help them survive, their level of technical development corresponds to the Stone Age. They wear primitive clothing and use crude weapons. But on occasion, they learn very quickly. modern technologies... Ewoks are proud warriors who use their forest knowledge to defeat better-armed foes.

(Trade Federation)

A selling coalition of merchants from many planets. Considered greedy and unscrupulous, the Trade Federation has blocked the peaceful planet of Naboo to protest the Republic's taxation of galactic trade routes. However, this had no effect on the Senate, and the corporation landed a secret army of battle droids and heavily armed equipment on the planet. The Nabuans and their allies eventually repelled the invasion when Anakin Skywalker destroyed the Trade Federation droid control station.

Notable members: Nute Gunray, Lott Dod, Rune Haako.

Location: mobile.

Actions: everything possible for the sake of large sums of money.

Detailed description

The Trade Federation was founded in 350 BC. Ya. (Before the Battle of Yavin) as an organization uniting the merchants of the inhabited space. However, over time, she turned into one of the most powerful forces in the galaxy, threatening peace and freedom in the universe. Capitalizing on the growing wealth, the Trade Federation concentrated on capturing the main trade routes, the possession of which provided enormous political and economic power. By 40 g. To b. Ya federation controlled all trade routes in the Old Republic and in hundreds of other systems.

In 32 BC. Y. Naboo Senator Palpatine has launched a campaign to reduce the influence of the Trade Federation. At his suggestion, the Galactic Senate passed Resolution BR-0371, a seemingly harmless document that taxed all hyperspace trade routes in the Outer and Midworlds. The resolution met with wide approval, since the funds received were used to pay off the debts of the Old Republic. Since the Trade Federation dominated the free trade zones, this law hit it hardest. Within a few months after the resolution was issued, the federation's revenues dropped dramatically.

The Trade Federation's response was immediate. While Federation Senator Lott Dod furiously urged the Senate to abandon the new taxation, the corporation's executive board was planning a retaliation. Under the leadership of Viceroy Nut Gunray and his deputy, Rune Haako, the Trade Federation began secretly creating a massive army. Large-scale contracts were concluded with the Baktoid military factories, Haor Challa engineers, and even colicoids. The Trade Federation has filled the holds of their cargo ships with powerful battle tanks, deadly fighters, hordes of droids and dangerous droidekas. After testing the army on Loka and other planets in the Outer Worlds, the Trade Federation was ready for war.

Six months after the release of BR-0371, the Trade Federation descended on Naboo, Senator Palpatine's homeworld. By order of Gunray, the Trade Federation navy locked down the planet, making it impossible for it to import and export goods. After a few weeks of blockade, the position of Naboo became hopeless, as the necessary supplies came to an end. The Senate continued to refuse to repeal Law BR-0371 and the Trade Federation then declassified its army by invading the planet Naboo. Gunray wanted to take over the capital, Theed, and force Queen Amidala to sign a treaty transferring power over the planet to the Trade Federation. However, the Queen was rescued by the Jedi Knights, and in the ensuing Battle of Naboo, the Federation army was defeated. Nute Gunray, who was responsible for the invasion, was arrested but escaped serious punishment and soon began to occupy a prominent position in his organization again.

In the years following the Battle of Naboo, the Trade Federation remained a powerful force in the galaxy. Although most of her army was destroyed, the Trade Federation forged new alliances and began to restore its former military strength. She even formed elite assassin squads to take revenge on the Jedi, but all attempts to do so were in vain. At 29 g to b. I. The Old Republic ordered the Trade Federation to disband the army, but the corporation never fully complied with this requirement and maintained a secret army until the creation of the Empire.

Trade Federation

Founded three hundred and fifty years earlier than the Battle of Yavin, the Trade Federation was originally intended to be the representative office of merchants and traders in the galaxy. However, over time, she became one of the most powerful forces in the galaxy and a dangerous threat to peace and freedom.

Consisting of officials from numerous systems, the Trade Federation has always been greedy and wicked. Using its ever-expanding Lordship, the organization focused on capturing major trade routes, knowing that ownership of these lines would give the Trade Federation enormous political and economic power. By the forty years before the Battle of Yavin, the Trade Federation effectively controlled every trade route and hundreds of subsystems known to the Old Republic.

Thirty-two years before the Battle of Yavin, at the urging of Senator Palpatine Naboo, High Chancellor Valorum began a campaign to reduce the power of the Trade Federation. As a result, the Galactic Senate passed Decision BR-0371, a seemingly harmless law that imposed tariffs on all major hyperspace trade routes in the Outer and Middle Rings. The decision was a resounding success because all of the tax revenue of the so-called "Free Trade Zones" was used to help and develop distant systems. But since the Trade Federation dominated the Free Trade Zones, the corporation was struck by the new law. Within months of the decision, the Trade Federation's profits dropped dramatically.

The Trade Federation immediately responded to the BR-0371 threat. While Trade Federation Senator Lott Dod was a staunch opponent of taxation, Executive Director corporations began planning a bold counterstrike. Under the leadership of Vikroy Nut Gunray and his lieutenant Rune Haako, the Trade Federation began building a massive secret army. After making deals with the Baktoid Armor workshops, the Haor Chall engineers, and even the Nest of Creatures Colicoid, the Trade Federation loaded up their cargo ships with powerful battle tanks, deadly starfighter droids, hordes of battle droids, and menacing droidekas. After testing this army on Lok and other worlds in the Outer Rim, the Trade Federation began to prepare for war.

Six months after the adoption of BR-0371, the Trade Federation struck Naboo, the homeland of Senator Palpatine. By order of Gunray, the fleet battleships The Trade Federation created a blockade around the peaceful world to stop the import and export of goods. The blockade lasted several weeks, and Naboo's plight grew desperate as supplies dwindled. When the Senate once again refused to revoke BR-0371, the Trade Federation finally revealed its secret army and took over Naboo. Gunray planned to seize the capital Theed and force Queen Amidala to sign an agreement giving the Trade Federation ownership of the planet.

Gunray's plan fell through when the Jedi Knights intervened and rescued Amidala. The Battle of Naboo soon followed, pitting the Trade Federation against the combined forces of the Great Gungan Army and the Royal Naboo Security Forces. While the Gungans distracted the Trade Federation army, the Queen and her loyal soldiers recaptured Theed. Taking advantage of the chaos, Naboo Bravo's squadron managed to launch an attack on the vital Trade Federation droid control ship. Anakin Skywalker destroyed the KUD, disarming the Trade Federation army. Nute Gunray, the overseer of the invasion, was arrested but escaped severe punishment and soon returned to his prominent role within the organization.

For many years after the Battle of Naboo, the Trade Federation remained a huge force in the galaxy. Although most of its original army was dismantled, the Trade Federation quickly formed new alliances and began rebuilding its military strength. At one point, the Trade Federation even formed an elite death corps in a failed attempt to take revenge on the Jedi. Twenty-nine years before the Battle of Yavin Old republic ordered the Trade Federation to disband its army, but the corporation did not fully comply with this directive and supported the secret army.

When the Confederation of Independent Systems was formed twenty years before the Battle of Yavin, the Trade Federation found an opportunity to join others in opposing the rule of the Galactic Senate. Taking advantage of Nut Gunray's hatred of Queen Amidala of Naboo, the cunning KNU leader Count Dooku seduced the Trade Federation into a separatist union, promising the assassination of Amidala, now serving as Senator. Although they have not yet publicly endorsed the KNU because the assassination attempts have failed, the leaders of the Trade Federation and a significant portion of its military forces arrived in Geonosis and fought the first battle of the Clone Wars. Now the secret power of the Trade Federation was revealed and there was no alternative but to join the CNS in the war against the Republic.
