How to paint a glass jar with acrylics. Painting with acrylic paints on glass. Ordering acrylic painting on glass in our studio

A beautiful work of art can be created from any glass object using the glass painting technique that is available to everyone.

Round brushes are used to paint glass. These can be squirrel, kolinsky or synthetic brushes. It is convenient to have brushes in 2 sizes. 2 or 1 number.

Paints:
It can be either stained glass paints (designed specifically for painting on glass), or acrylic paints.
Glass paints can be transparent or non-transparent. Alcohol or water based. The advantage of alcohol-based paints, for example, from Hobbe lane, Germany, is their water resistance and the absence of a pungent odor. Paints can withstand washing in hot water and detergents. But it is not recommended to wash them in the dishwasher.

Water-based paints, for example, Marabu (DecorGlass), which, after baking, at a given temperature (usually 130 or 160 degrees), also become waterproof. The temperature and mode specified on the packaging of paints must be strictly maintained, otherwise the paints may change their color, or even simply burn out. The advantage of the paint is the free solvent - water and the absence of any odor.

Contours: for firing "Porzellan liner" by "Hobby line", Germany. Roasting in the oven at 160 degrees for 90 minutes. The circuit cannot be removed after firing. The contours of the Pebeo company, for example, when dry, become translucent and give a volumetric line, but the time for complete drying is three days.

Additionally, they use various rhinestones, beads, beads, small crumbs of amber, colored sand, sparkles - all this is glued to the surface of the object and creates a magnificent decorative effect.

What can be painted

ordinary photo frames. By painting the glass and inserting it into the frame, you will get a painting in a stained glass style. Making a real stained glass window is very laborious process, and with the help of paints on glass, in a few hours you will create a thing that will not leave anyone indifferent;

Glass utensils: glasses, wine glasses and wine glasses, decanters, different-sized salad bowls and bowls, plates, vases, lanterns for teapots, empty wine bottles and cans of interesting shapes, shades. They can be completely painted in a stained glass style or limited to ornaments, initials, patterns.

Glass inserts in furniture, doors and walls;

Mirrors. An image in the form of a frame or just a drawing in the corner will revive an unremarkable mirror.

From glasses, flasks, bowls, you can make candlesticks, pencil holders, vases and other functional gizmos. Paint the plates to match your interior, and on special stands, they will decorate the kitchen or living room. Be sure to keep in mind that surfaces painted with paint should not come into contact with food, so if you decide to make a pattern on the dishes used for their intended purpose, do it from the outside. Additionally, they use various rhinestones, beads, beads, small crumbs of amber, colored sand, sparkles - all this is glued to the surface of the object and creates a magnificent decorative effect.

The painting algorithm is as follows:

1. The glass surface is degreased with an alcohol-containing liquid, soap or other detergent. We do not touch the cleaned surface with our hands, because any grease creates a layer from which the paint will peel off very quickly.

2. The selected pattern is printed on the printer, in the desired size. To transfer the drawing to the product, copy paper is used: put a carbon copy, a sketch on top, and the whole structure is fixed with masking tape to avoid shifts. Alternatively, use a ready-made stencil from the kit. Or the sketch is applied with back side glass and translate the image with a felt-tip pen. For some objects, all of the above methods are not applicable (for example, when painting bottles), you will have to draw on your own, referring to the original.

3. Next, with contour paste (your choice: gold, silver, transparent or classic black) we outline the drawing, making sure that the lines are closed. After the contour has completely dried (from 30 minutes to 3 hours), fill the drawing with paint, starting with large parts.

4. In order not to miscalculate the color of the composition, we recommend that you first create a colored sketch on paper. Usually, the color scheme is performed in the colors of the interior. To prevent spreading, the painted side of the object is placed strictly horizontally until the paint dries. In the process of work, the transparency of the drawing is checked, because the ability to transmit light is the main value of the stained-glass window, which allows you to create colorful glare. It is convenient to mix and dilute paints on a glass palette, placing a white sheet of paper under it (in order to more accurately determine the color).

5. Flaws are removed with a cotton swab moistened with solvent. Air bubbles formed in the picture are immediately removed with a toothpick or the tip of a cloth - otherwise there will be a "hole" after drying. At the end of the work, brushes are cleaned with a solvent and wiped dry with a napkin.

6. For durability, the drawing is coated with acrylic glass varnish. This is done in about a day (check the instructions), when the drawing is completely dry. Ready product can be safely washed in warm water along with detergents.

The art of painting on glass appeared in glorious times Renaissance. The then masters from generation to generation passed on the secret of using metals and their oxides instead of the usual paints. Today chemical industry developed so much that it allows you to expand the range of materials suitable for painting on glass. The lower than before, the price of paints and the method of painting, using stencils, simplified the technology and made it much more affordable.

The most popular material for painting on glass is acrylic paints, recognized equally by professionals and amateurs, they provide an opportunity for self-creation unique things. It is with them that we will learn to work.

Let us ask ourselves what is painting on glass acrylic paints how easy it is to learn this technique and what we need in order to decorate windows, mirrors, bottles in this way - in a word, any glass surface.

So, let's prepare acrylic paints, acrylic varnish, ordinary brushes with different thicknesses. Do not forget about cotton swabs and toothpicks, they come in handy for correcting images, as well as multi-colored outlines (contact "Stationery" or specialty stores with goods for arts and crafts) and a special compound for thinning acrylic paints. It will serve for thick paints, however, in many cases it will be successfully replaced with ordinary water. Prepare a palette for mixing different shades.

How to prepare glass

Before you start painting glass with acrylic paints, clean the work surface. Let's say we will paint a bottle, but there is a label on it, what should we do? In hot water, it will go away in a quarter of an hour, maximum - in 20 minutes. Remove glue residues, if any, with an iron brush (abrasive cleaning agent will give the same effect). We complete the preparation by degreasing the glass using alcohol (nail polish remover will also work). It remains to dry - and you can paint.

Where to start painting on glass?

First of all, we decide which image we like, and figure out how to position it more beautifully on the surface. Next, we transfer the drawing to the glass using one of two methods.

We take a thin marker and put the image on the glass surface. True, this requires a faithful hand and solid artistic ability, which, you see, not everyone has. So it's better all the same, especially while we are stuffing our hand, do the following: we put a drawing slightly moistened with water under a transparent work surface and carefully outline it using a contour (this is such a special paint in a tube, it has a long thin nose with a hole at the end) or a marker ...

If you have chosen a contour for work, do not press hard, otherwise too much paint will be squeezed out. At first, you are unlikely to get a straight line, do not be discouraged, all irregularities can be corrected with cotton swabs or toothpicks. So, the outline is applied, leave it to dry for a couple of hours.

There is one subtlety worth knowing about. The contour will make the image clearer, but at the same time less "live", stained glass. So there is a reason to transfer the drawing in draft, for example, with the same marker, and then work on it with acrylic paints, then the image will really sparkle and come to life.

Painting on glass with acrylic paints: creating a drawing

Moving on to the most interesting and exciting stage - this is drawing with acrylics on glass, painting a rough sketch. When finished, let it dry (for how long, it is written in the instructions on the package or can, usually about 10 minutes).

However, there are acrylic paints that need to be baked in the oven, and not just dried the image they have applied. We find out the temperature required for this from the annotation.

And some more useful tips:

  • you need to paint with acrylic paints on glass in layers, waiting for each to dry;
  • acrylic paints will lay smoother if you scoop them up with a larger brush and, gently running over the glass, distribute it over the entire surface, achieving an even and thin layer. The speed of application is important here in order to prevent the edges of the painted area from drying out. Otherwise, ugly divorces cannot be avoided;
  • a more textured pattern with embossed grooves will be obtained using a foam sponge or a brush with stiff bristles;
  • don't be afraid to experiment with different shades, mix colors;
  • you can cover a large area of the surface using spray acrylic paint;
  • do not forget about safety precautions! If your acrylic paints contain alkyd resins, you must thoroughly ventilate the area or use a respirator;
  • when the work is completed, wash the brushes, otherwise you can ruin the pile and the brush will have to be thrown away;
  • after applying the drawings with acrylic paints on the glass, cover them with a special acrylic varnish, and they will last much longer.
So, we got acquainted with the basic principles of drawing images with acrylic paints on glass, it's time to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in practice, creating our first masterpieces. Good luck in this endeavor!

Painting on glass draws attention, but for many, this technique seems daunting. In fact, mastering this type of painting is easier than learning to paint with a brush.

Nowadays, not everyone is surprised by a hand-painted bottle or coffee can. And once the art of painting began with huge stained-glass windows in temple buildings, in Gothic cathedrals, and Catholic churches. To a greater extent, it looked like a single colored glass, and not a painting in the literal sense of the word. The modern technique of painting on glass is somewhat different from the ancient technologies; it is quite possible to master it independently and without significant expenses.

Development of stained glass painting technique

It is difficult to name the historical homeland of stained glass painting. Although, according to historians and archaeologists, this art originated in antiquity: decorating glassware oil paints could still be under Alexander the Great. But since glass is a porous material, such drawings did not last long, they lost their original appearance. Therefore, the originals have not reached us.

Glass was painted with oils in Russia in the 16-17 centuries. In large strokes, somewhere dense, somewhere with gaps, bright patterns, stylized plant ornaments were applied to pots and pots, as well as to glassware. And in Germany, the technique of scraping paint from the glass surface was used.

Much later, thanks to the efforts of artists and artisans, technologies were found that allow drawing by applying paints that preserve transparency and brightness. With the advent of aniline dyes, artists have much more opportunities. No wonder they were immediately appreciated by the masters of folk art crafts.

Seeming simplicity and real difficulties

Painting on glass, on the one hand, is simple and affordable enough to do it at home. On the other hand, some skills are required. A firm hand and accuracy in work will help to create a beautiful and unique drawing.

If you are ready to tinker with paints, contours, wait patiently for the layers to dry to apply the next, if you like to turn ordinary household items into works of art - painting on glass will expand your possibilities as a creator. Working with glass instills neatness, makes you feel like a Renaissance artist.

For mothers involved in the development of their children, we can recommend this technology with the aim of developing skills in different surfaces... Under the sensitive guidance of elders, the child takes the first steps into the world of amazing art.

And starting from the age of 9-11, you can study independently. To do this, there are many proposals in stores of goods for creativity: sets of stained glass paints, individual tools. Just start - you will like it further.

Preparatory stage of work on glass

The list of what you need for painting on glass is not very long. For work, you will need special paints. They are sold with stained glass or paint markings on glass and ceramic surfaces. Also stencils and special outlines. It is with their help that the drawing is applied, its borders. You will need brushes of various sizes and shapes, cloths to remove excess paint, sponges or tampons to fill large surfaces with an even layer.

The glass must be completely cleaned before use. This applies to labels if bottles or cans are taken for painting. Then be sure to degrease the surface on which the drawing will be applied. This can be done easily and simply by washing with soapy water and rinsing with plenty of clean water. Allow to dry without wiping, otherwise towel fluff may remain on the glass.

How to paint a picture

You can study the features of the glass painting technique for a long time, but it is better to try to create your first picture. It is important to choose the size of the image for the dimensions of the future masterpiece.

  1. The drawing is pre-printed or drawn on plain paper.
  2. Place the drawing on the back of the glass, securing it with tape.
  3. On the outer surface, apply a pattern of drawing with a contour on the glass.
  4. Allow to dry.
  5. Fill in the patterns with special acrylic paints intended for glass. The process will stretch in time, since you will need to dry individual fragments in order to start the next. You can paint with several thin layers, achieving the desired effect.

It is important to set aside time for drying, so you will save your work for a long time. Also, for preservation, the picture must be covered with transparent acrylic varnish.

Fix the finished glass with a picture into the frame. You will get a very beautiful image in the light. The sun's rays passing through the paint will delight and amuse.

Painting of bottles and cans is slightly different in that work has to be interrupted more often so that small areas have time to dry before turning and painting the other side of the product. But the principles are the same. Glass cleaning, contouring, paint filling and varnishing.

Ideas for creativity

You can paint not only glass blanks that can be turned into a painting. These can be vases, plates, jars for spices and coffee, tea utensils. Despite the fact that the materials for the work are expensive, like everything related to artistic crafts, the cost of the finished product allows you to make a decent markup. It is good if the jar, the bottle have lids. Then this item can be used for its intended purpose, not only as an interior decoration. Dear friends, subscribers and blog visitors!

In his creative activity I use almost all known techniques painting on glass with stained glass paints. Do not be surprised, it is not difficult, because there are not so many of these techniques: contour, contourless and multi-layered.

Sometimes also used dot painting on glass- this is perhaps the only one of the main techniques that can be combined with stained glass painting, and separately as a technique point-to-point on other surfaces

The most amazing moments in the life of an artist are the moments of the creation of works ... on glass, canvas or wood

Let's take a closer look at these techniques today. and we will figure out what is the specificity of each of them and what opportunities they open up for artists. You will see that due to the effects obtained when using each technique, you can create completely different stained glass paintings with the same paints.

Let's start with the most common ...

Contour painting technique

Its essence lies in the fact that first the painting is done with a contour on glass, a sketch of the work is created, and then the spaces between the contours are filled with paints, as a result of which the picture is born.

The drawing is encircled with a relief contour, preferably of the same company as the stained glass paints. If the surface is large enough, stained glass lead tape is used, which plays the same role as the outline - it does not allow the stained glass paint to mix and strictly adhere to a certain place.

Examples of masters in stained glass painting using a contour

Here it is a matter of your taste ... If you want to make the divisions in the drawing wider and similar as in a real stained-glass window, then choose a stained-glass lead tape. If you want your work to be airy and light, choose a tube contour.

The height of the outline depends on how much you plan to pour paint on the glass. But the denser the paint, the less transparent it is.

Advice: Stained-glass paints are an amazing material, with its help you can create colorful works, and not only on glass. Practice on small pieces of glass with different density paints on glass using a contour of different heights…. Perhaps you will discover something new for yourself!

Basically, all life is based on experimentation. Experiment and live life to the fullest. And as Aristotle correctly noted: "To live means to do things, not to acquire them!"

You can "fill" your hand in stained-glass painting on small glasses, plates and vases

The advantages of this technique: an opportunity to see a sketch of a painting before filling it with flowers, a certain sketchiness that allows you to break the process into separate stages, a characteristic "stained-glass" appearance of the final product.

In general, this is a technique for curious people. Best for creating beautiful paintings to use varnish stained-glass paints in an uncontrolled technique, they open up more possibilities in the world of stained-glass painting.

By the way, these two techniques can be combined. For example, inside large element in a contour, you can make a pattern in a non-contour manner. And of course, flowers are especially beautiful when the spreading of stained glass paints gives amazing patterns inside the flower!

V master class by painting a glass table, I show all the nuances of such work. The photo below clearly shows how beautiful spreads are created in this way.

You can purchase on a special page with a significant discount. Also in this lesson, I additionally show the technique of gilding with gold leaf, since gilding complements this work.

As is known, hand made a special kind of creativity and it is popular all over the world. A huge number of people love to decorate the interior with their own hands.

Multilayer technique

The essence of this painting technique is clear from its name: paints are applied with it in several layers. Moreover, depending on what effect the artist wants to achieve, the bottom layer (or several layers) can be either completely dry or of varying degrees of dampness, so that they are mixed with the layer applied above.

This technique allows you to create the most realistic images with stained glass paints, with its help, you can even convey shadows and play of light. This technique requires a lot of attention and patience.

This technique works best with water-based stained glass paints. Although, if you practice enough, then you can achieve good results with lacquered stained glass paints.

A small (lacquered) will help you make right choice at the time of buying.

Here, look at the example of the work of one master of stained glass painting, where the transitions of light and shadow on the boy's face and on the bodies of angels are clearly visible.

Examples of multi-layer stained glass technique

Consistency in work and accuracy are important here ... If errors appear, it will be difficult to correct them. And again I will repeat - try, experiment! After all, nothing is impossible - everyone can master such a fine technique ... the main thing here is desire!

Spot painting on glass

Again, the name of this technique also speaks for itself. The image is formed by a set of points made by contours, and its color and saturation can be varied not only by color, but also by the density of points, and the shades change, including when setting points of different colors next to each other.

The complexity of painting in these techniques is approximately equal. This methodical technique is used not only on glass and ceramics. With this technique, they decorate everything and on any surface ... from covers to clothes.

Spot painting on glass and ceramics is very popular in the world and is in great demand.

Do you like stained glass paintings? If you want to try to write something amazing and unusual, but do not know how to approach this technique, do not worry. We all started at some point.

Painting on glass "Girl playing with a cat on the windowsill"

At one time, I wrote down in which in detail, clearly and step by step, I showed and told how to create a stained glass picture, even if you are doing it for the first time.

Moreover, the master class is based on working with professional solvent paints, and after that you will know exactly how to write real works. In the lesson, I used the basic contouring technique, but there are moments in the picture in which there is an uncontrolled and point technique.

And as the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras said:"Give every day a Chance to become the most wonderful in your life!"

So if you are interested, go ahead and watch - the master class was recorded especially for you!

Some people who have enough time enjoy making home decorations. Someone knits napkins and tablecloths, someone is engaged in woodcarving, someone writes pictures and decorates their house with them or gives them to people, bringing them joy.

There is another interesting activity that often turns into a hobby - painting on glass and creating homemade stained glass windows.

How to make glass paint yourself?

Contrary to the opinion that painting on glass is an occupation for professionals, it is not so difficult.

Even if you have never discovered your artistic talent, it will not be at all difficult to paint a small glass thing beautifully. Moreover, you can start with ordinary bottles and even jars, which gather dust in almost every pantry.

So, there are several ways for glass:

    • To make paint you will need: PVA glue, food coloring, water.
      To prepare paint, you need to take a clean jar or a small bottle and add all the paint components to it in the following ratio: 1 tablespoon of glue, 1.5 tablespoons of water, 3 drops food coloring... All this must be thoroughly stirred at once, and then you can begin to create beauty from everyday objects.
      If the color of the paint seems to you not bright enough, then just add a few more drops of dye to the container. It is better to add one drop at a time, stir and see what happens. By adding a few drops at once, you run the risk of changing the brightness of the paint too much. If this happens, you will have to add glue and water in the appropriate proportion to dilute the color.
      If the drawing is colored, then you need to make paint of various colors.
      That's all. Can selected items.

  • For the manufacture of paint, you can use not only food, but also aniline dyes, which are used to dye fabric.
    Preparation of paint from them is as follows:
  1. the dyes are dissolved in distilled water, stirred well and filtered through several layers of gauze;
  2. the resulting colored solution is mixed with the PVA emulsion in such a ratio that the resulting mixture has the consistency of heavy cream, that is, it is sufficiently fluid, but not liquid like water.

The resulting piece is taken into a small piece of glass in order to check the color.

  • There is other options for the manufacture of paints for glass.
    For example, white paint for drawing borders can be made as follows: 20 g of ground kaolin and 80 g of silicate glue are thoroughly mixed. It is convenient to apply it to the contour using wooden stick or an artistic pen.
    You can also make black paint: 20 g of ground charcoal, 20 g of printing black and 60 g of silicate glue are thoroughly mixed and filtered.

  • Another recipe for making paints of any color for glass.
    For cooking you will need:
  • dye;
  • water;
  • vinegar;
  • gelatin.

The paint is prepared as follows:

  1. Gelatin is dissolved in hot (70 degrees) water.
  2. The dye is mixed with the dissolved gelatin. If there is no dye at home, then you can use felt-tip pens: after mixing water with vinegar, you need to pass it through a felt-tip pen, thus obtaining a coloring pigment.

Not any glass object, but a sheet of glass, it is better to lay it horizontally. For uniformity of staining, it is better to use not a brush, but a spray bottle. The resulting drawing must be fixed by covering it with varnish.

Using aniline paints, you can make an impromptu stained glass window. For this you will need.
