Rating of business schools in Europe. full-time MBA programs

Many MBA applicants may wonder where European business school programs can take them.

An analysis of 19 programs from European institutions included in our list of the best foreign business schools can help answer this question. One thing is clear for sure: studying in European business schools does not always mean a career in European companies. American companies are often among the top employers for European business school graduates.

The charts below will give you an overview of the areas of work and salaries of European MBA graduates, as well as those for all business schools. 20% of European business schools send their graduates to work in the UK (the country is the leader in the number of employed graduates of European business schools). The United States ranks second in the number of employed graduates of European MBA programs. Just like graduates from other regions, holders of a European MBA most often choose consulting as their field of work.

19 full-time MBA programs

Curiously, European business school graduates stay to work in English-speaking countries or are hired by companies from the United States - especially when you consider that the majority of European business school students are people from distant countries. While our analysis does not show the nationality of students, the data shows that 84% of those who graduated from European MBA programs in 2015 came from other regions. In the United States, this figure is 32%.

To obtain the very best possible education, MBA applicants are ready to travel anywhere, to any country in the world.

Rating calculation methodology

Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine focuses the ranking methodology on assessing how study programs contribute to graduate success at work and in their careers. The methodology includes a survey of recruiters, students and alumni.

Employer survey (35 percent)

The survey is conducted among employers hiring MBA graduates. This year, 686 recruiters from more than 400 companies took part in it. Each recruiter was asked to identify up to 10 schools with which they most often encountered in the last five years. They were then asked to rate the quality of training and the skills required in the work of the students of these schools. Later, these data were analyzed, weighted according to the degree of significance and processed - as a result, an intermediate rating of business schools was obtained according to the criterion of "employers' assessment."

Alumni survey (30 percent)

To study the impact of MBA on careers, we surveyed graduates who graduated from business school between 2009 and 2011. Also included was data from the 2016 alumni survey. As a result, almost 10,000 respondents were interviewed.

The ranking of schools was influenced equally by three factors:

  • Increase in average income after MBA studies.
  • Job satisfaction.
  • Feedback on MBA training.

Student survey (15 percent)

Recent graduates are the best judges of MBA programs. They measure the campus climate, the effectiveness of career services, and the responsiveness of faculty and administrators.

Bloomberg Businessweek surveyed 9,461 2017 graduates this year. Data from the 2016 student survey was also included to make the assessment of schools more complete. The survey consisted of 27 questions and collection of other data: demographics, career plans, student debt, etc.

Employment rate (10 percent)

The Employment Rate is measured as the percentage of graduates who were looking for a job and were employed full-time within three months of graduating from an MBA. Schools provided data on the 2016 graduates with whom they kept in touch (data for 2017 were not ready at the time of calculating the rating). Entrepreneurs were excluded from the analysis.

Starting salary (10 percent)

The salary that young specialists received within three months after graduation was considered. To ensure the credibility of the estimate, the analysis included only baseline salaries and did not include additional compensation and bonuses. Also, fluctuations in wages by industry and region were taken into account and averaged. Consulting salaries were compared with salaries in the field of consulting, European incomes with European ones, and so on.

Final rating

Full-Time MBA Rankings were compiled by standardizing, averaging and weighing the values of each indicator:

P.S. Our editors omitted the details of the analysis and statistical processing of survey data, since this information is close to scientific data. You can find out all the details on the website

The most best schools businesses were determined based on the results of a survey of 17.5 thousand MBA-graduates of 2012 from more than 100 business schools.

As for the ratings of Russian business schools, we have great difficulties with them in the country, since no one regularly deals with them, and the methodology of compiling them raises many questions. Attempts to create such a rating were made by the media: the Sekret Firmy magazine and the RBC portal.
